In this lesson I will give you an overview of what you'll learn in this course. I included a PDF document where you can record all your important login credentials. Feel free to use it as an electronic document or print it and fill it out by hand.
NOTE: You do NOT need to purchase premium DNS.
I ONLY recommend you get the domain registration and free privacy protection from NameCheap. (And set them to auto-renew.)
PHP versions shown in the video are outdated (they keep updating the language).
Your hosting company should offer PHP 7.4 as a minimum and PHP 8+ as well. If they don't, pick a different hosting company.
IMPORTANT: Siteground increased its prices. The prices you see in this video are no longer available. Sorry.
But I still recommend this hosting company, even though their prices went up. I've dealt with the "support" from Bluehost and GoDaddy, and believe me when I say that the monthly cup of coffee you're skipping to purchase Siteground hosting instead of cheaper alternatives will be worth its weight in gold when you need to contact Support. Siteground's support is excellent.
NOTE: If you get an error while trying to save the custom Name Servers, it's most likely because you copied and pasted TOO MUCH information.
There shouldn't be any spaces or IP addresses in there, just ns1........ and another line with ns2.....
Do NOT include the IP address, which sometimes appears in brackets.
VERY IMPORTANT:
This video is NOT for everyone.
Only people who have purchased "EXTRA" domain names will need to watch it if they want to redirect those extra domains to a specific page on another website.
In this course, you'll have access to 46 minutes worth of step-by-step videos that will teach you the following key topics and skills:
Understanding and navigating technical jargon related to website creation.
Selecting, acquiring, and registering a domain name that best represents your author brand. Your domain name is your "address" online.
Selecting an affordable and reliable web hosting service that offers free email addresses, SSL certificates, and additional features. Your "hosting" is where the information (text/images/etc.) from your website are stored.
Installing and setting up WordPress, a popular content management system, for your website. This will allow you to update your pages without having to touch a line of code.
Configuring your domain name to point to your chosen hosting provider, ensuring seamless website access for visitors.
Activating and managing your SSL security certificate to enable secure browsing and display the padlock symbol in your visitors' browsers.
Creating and managing custom email addresses associated with your domain name, enhancing your professional image.
Enabling automatic updates for your website's software and security features to help maintain a secure and up-to-date online presence.
OPTIONAL - Learning how to redirect or forward your domain name to another website or web address, allowing for flexible website management.
