Learn how to build a simple RACI matrix using Atlassian Confluence
A RACI chart is a matrix that is used to define and clearly communicate the roles and responsibilities of team members in a project or process. RACI stands for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed, and these terms are used to define the level of involvement and decision-making authority of each team member.
Responsible: The person who performs the work to complete the task.
Accountable: The person who is ultimately accountable for the work and the results. This person is the one who signs off on the task as complete.
Consulted: The people who need to be consulted in order to complete the task. They may provide input, but do not have decision-making authority.
Informed: The people who need to be kept informed of the task status and progress. They do not need to be consulted or involved in the work, but need to be aware of what is happening.
Key Considerations
Using Confluence to document the RACI is helpful on small to medium size projects with smaller number of roles
If you have a large number of roles in your projects, you may consider attaching the RACI as a spreadsheet
Defining the specific tasks a project role will perform on the project is helpful on both medium and large projects
Small projects may not need a lot of role definition but its easy to clarify in Atlassian Confluence
On large programs or projects, it helps to clarify the specific tasks a given role will perform on the projects
On some projects, specific tasks can overlap and blend within a team and new and existing team members can get confused about the specific task definition
