Embarking on your artistic journey is an exciting endeavor! As a beginner artist, it's crucial to explore different mediums to find the one that sparks your creativity. In this blog post, we'll delve into several mediums and provide you with a handy supply list to get started. Let's dive in!
Pencil and Paper: Pencil and paper are classic mediums that offer endless possibilities. All you need is a set of quality drawing pencils, an eraser, and a sketchbook to begin sketching, shading, and creating intricate details.
Acrylic Paint: Acrylic paint is a versatile and forgiving medium that dries quickly, making it ideal for beginners. Start with a basic set of acrylic paints in primary colors, a selection of brushes, canvas or canvas boards, and a palette for mixing colors.
Watercolors: Watercolors allow for beautiful, translucent effects. Begin with a set of watercolor paints, watercolor brushes, watercolor paper, and a palette. Don't forget to have a cup of water handy for rinsing your brushes!
Colored Pencils: Colored pencils offer a fun and portable medium for vibrant and detailed artwork. Invest in a good set of colored pencils, a sharpener, and a sketchbook or specialized colored pencil paper.
Pastels: Pastels provide a soft and expressive medium that blends easily. Start with a set of soft pastels, pastel paper or a sketchbook with a pastel-friendly surface, and a fixative spray to preserve your artwork.
Digital Art: For those interested in exploring digital art, a drawing tablet and digital art software are essential. Look for a drawing tablet that suits your budget and needs, and consider popular software options like Adobe Photoshop or Procreate.
Sculpture: Sculpture is a tactile and three-dimensional medium that allows you to bring your artistic visions to life in a tangible form. Whether you work with clay, stone, metal, or other materials, sculpting offers a unique way to explore shapes, textures, and the interplay of light and shadow. Start with a basic set of sculpting tools, your chosen material, and a sturdy work surface to begin shaping and molding your creations.
Dance: Dance is a powerful form of artistic expression that engages your body, mind, and soul. It allows you to communicate emotions and stories through movement. Whether you prefer contemporary, ballet, hip-hop, or any other style, dance provides a cathartic and liberating experience. Find a dance studio or join online classes to learn different techniques, and let the music guide your body in a graceful and expressive dance.
Collage: Collage is a versatile and accessible medium that allows you to create stunning compositions by combining various materials such as paper, photographs, fabric, and more. It encourages you to experiment with textures, colors, and patterns, and offers endless possibilities for self-expression. Gather a collection of materials, scissors, glue, and a sturdy surface to start cutting, arranging, and pasting your way to visually captivating collages.
Singing: Singing is a beautiful and melodic form of art that allows you to express yourself through the power of your voice. Whether you sing alone or join a choir, it is a wonderful way to connect with your emotions and share your innermost feelings. Warm up your vocal cords, find songs that resonate with you, and let your voice soar. Consider taking singing lessons or joining a local singing group to enhance your skills and grow as a vocalist.

Article: Essential Drawing Techniques
This Wild and Sacred approach brings sacredness into the mundane and deep spiritual meaning into the art...
To me, spiritual life (conscious awareness) and art are both full of meaningful substance... awakening to and valuing the depth of experience, existence, creation, destruction, and the true nature of what is. To bring your soul into your art is to value each part of the process. To rise in love with growing, learning, playing, creating, and sometimes destroying. It's important to let go of trying to control these ideas/concepts with the thinking mind, but rather learn to align the mind to flow in the heart and soul with grace and ease. The way we create art can also be symbolic to life, and a deep reflection of how we live.

Commitment to Self
Commitment to self is a powerful way to honor the self. This means you get to listen to your intuition and be your most authentic self through your creative process and artwork. Create in the way that you would like to create, and play when you feel like playing. Everything I chat about is only guidelines, so you get to create outside of any boxes or limitations...the imagination is the limit.
Setting Intentions
Working with intention is a very powerful way to enter any new journey, whether it is creating art, starting the day, cooking food, etc. Sometimes we think of intentions as a desire we would like to accomplish in the future.. but the trick is to close the gap, by allowing yourself to become your intention in every now moment that you can remember to flow it. For example: If your intention is to have gratitude, then allow yourself to experience gratitude in the now moment. If your intention is to free yourself from the inner critique, then you must allow that to actually happen by acknowledging it and not attaching to it. What we resist we persist!

SOUL MARRIAGE by Alex Gray
"A commitment to your own and the world’s transformation.
For the benefit of Myself and all beings,
I, _________ (my ego & personality),
Do solemnly swear
To love, honor, and obey my Soul,
My path to realization and relationship
With a higher, deeper creative power,
For better or worse, for richer or poorer,
In sickness and in health,
From now and forevermore."

Today we get to go deep inside to embrace our inner child... treating ourselves like we would a two-year-old (when creating art). Please take a moment and go into memory and/or imagination and remember what it was like to create art at such a young age without any judgment. This is a powerful feeling to cultivate even if you can tap into it with pure imagination only. We are not two years old anymore, but the timeless soul within us (without age) is listening to all of our inner chatter. If you have a strong inner critic who is very judgemental, it takes time to unwind this voice, not by rejecting it, but by not giving it focus or attaching to the thought trails - like in the bonus meditation, let the thoughts and emotions move through you without grasping onto them.
This can be a powerful practice of Radical acceptance and self-love. You can do this by allowing it to happen. Let go of the thinking mind having a say! It takes desire, mindfulness, and effort to free the Self... but it is so worth it. As your inner experience changes into love and compassion for all aspects of yourself, you will be able to create and enjoy your own process around art.
Compassion for ourselves is the ability to sit with discomfort through hardship... rather than trying to escape it in some way with distraction or stuffing it down... it's about loving ourselves through it. You may find this to be an important part of your creation process.
Gentle Loving Kindness is a meditation practice that can melt away frustration and bitterness that can cause so much suffering. It is also a beautiful form of praying for the self and others. I just wanted to mention this because the ability to bring it in can shift your entire experience within the heART space.

Clairvoyance is the ability to perceive or gain information about events, objects, or people through extrasensory perception, without the use of the five physical senses (the mind's eye).
Our brains are like television with epic antennas picking up all kinds of images from our subconscious, and the collective. These can come through our mind's eye very powerfully in dreams. To develop clairvoyance is to start noticing and acknowledging these images coming through. We can often disregard them as noise to the point we don't even notice them coming in.
The exercise today is to start noticing.
There is no catch-all system of what images are supposed to look like or the level of sight. Even your imagination holds powerful information bubbling up from the subconscious. Sometimes they come through very clear, like you would see in a dream state. Or sometimes they come through half way, there but not there - seeing without really seeing.
We each have a powerful "Screen of Awareness"... simply close your eyes and look into the darkness. YES, that is it... you are looking right at it! When we give our minds a job to really listen, we can watch like we are waiting for curtains to open in the theater, to see what arises. In this state, any of the "clairs" could come through whether it is thoughts/voices, clear knowing, feeling, smelling, or seeing. This information could come from your higher self, loved ones who have passed, thought forms, past energies or something else.. so it is always good to ask and be able to feel your own resonance.
Feeling Inner RESONANCE
This is a very important part of the journey within the psychic intuitive realms. You must be able to feel what is in harmony (truth) vs chaotic (lies or not in tune... when something is off). This can take some mindfulness. It also helps to practice somatic meditation, which is the ability to drop energy into your body, noticing what the body feels like on very subtle levels. If you have ever felt butterflies in your stomach, that can be a really strong message from your body that your nerves are responding to. Feeling inner resonance, what is in tune and true for you, is also an important skill to develop for strong integrity and authenticity so that you can live into the greatest version of yourself. If/when you compromise yourself, it often ends up being a lose/lose. To tie this all back into art... your art is an expression of your deepest Self, so you must tune into the depths of your own consciousness in order to express it.
