Arabic Reading

You will learn 3 arabic letters:

- ب : which is equivalent to the letter 'B' in English

- ت : which is equivalent to the letter 'T' in English

- ث : which is equivalent to the letters 'Th' in the English word 'thanks'.

You will also learn three short vowels of Arabic:

- فَتْحَة (fatḥah) : which is equivalent to the English vowel 'a'

- كَسْرَة (kasra) : which is equivalent to the English vowel 'i'

- ضَمَّة (ḍammah) : which is equivalent to the English vowel 'u'

You will learn how to read the three Arabic letters you just learnt with the short vowels to them.

In this video we will practise reading letters ب, ت and ث.

We will also practise the reading the short vowels fatḥah ⟨فَتْحَة⟩, kasrah ⟨كَسْرَة⟩ and ḍammah ⟨ضَمَّة⟩.

Make sure you pause when the question screen appears to allow yourself time to answer the questions.

This is the second lesson of the Reading Module in the Arabic Language course.

In this lesson you will learn three letters:

ج (jīm)

ح (ḥā’)

خ (khā’)

You will also learn the three long vowels of Arabic (also letters):

ا (alif)

و (wāw)

ي (yā’)

A letter will appear with a short vowel and a long vowel. Pause the video and try to read them. Play the video again when you're ready to hear the answer.

In this video you will practise the letters we've learnt so far:

ث (thā’) ج (jīm) ح (ḥā’) خ (khā’)

We will read them with the short vowels:

فَتْحَة (fatḥah)

In the previous video we learnt how to read the long vowels:

In this video we're going to learn how to pronounce و (wāw) and ي (yā’) when they're not used as long vowels.

In this practice video you will read و (wāw) and ي (yā’) with both the short vowels and the long vowels. You will see one of these letter with both a short and long vowel. Pause the video and try to read them. Once you're ready, play the video to hear how they're read correctly.

Short vowels:

فَتْحَة (fatḥah)

Long vowels:

ا (alif)

و (wāw)

ي (yā’)

In this lesson you will learn 3 new letters:

د (dāl)

ذ (dhāl)

ر (rā’)

ز (zāy)

You will also learn how to read Sukoon which indiactes a letter no vowel.

You will also learn how to join letters and see the different forms letters take.

In this video we're going to practise the words we've learnt so far as well as some new words. Focus on the the different forms each letter takes when it appears at the beginning, middle or end of a word. Refer to the lesson's pdf resource throughout the course.

In this lesson we're going to learn: Yā' Leen (ياء لين) Wāw Leen (واو لين) This is when Yā' or Wāw have a Sukun and are preceded by a fatha or an Alif (when it's acting as a long vowel).

In this video we're going to practise Arabic words which have Yā' Leen (ياء لين) and Wāw Leen (واو لين) in them.

In this video we're going to learn a new Ḥarakah (diacritic) called Shaddah (شَدّة)‎‎. When shaddah is placed on a letter, you read the letter once with a sukoon and once again with the vowel on the shaddah.

In this video you will practise some words with a Shaddah ( شَدّة‎‎ ) in them.

In this video we're going to learn three new Ḥarakāt (diacritics) and four new letters. The Ḥarakāt are:

ً - Fatḥah Tanwīn

ٍ - Kasrah Tanwīn

ٌ - Ḍammah Tanwīn

The letters are:

س - Sīn

ش - Shīn

ص - Ṣād

ض - Ḍād

You will practise reading the tanweens and the new letters.

In this video we're going to practise the three new Ḥarakāt (diacritics) and the four new letters we learnt in lesson 7. The Ḥarakāt are:
