1).
APPLE, EYE, SPECIAL, DAUGHTER, YOUNGEST
IDIOM She is the apple of my eye
MEANING She is very special to me.
EXAMPLE His youngest daughter is the apple of his eye.
Question: Your daughter is lovely.
Answer: Yes, she is the apple of my eye.
2).
BAD, EGG, KIND
IDIOM He is a bad egg.
MEANING He or she is a bad kind of person.
EXAMPLE That man is a bad egg.
Question: What did you think of her new boyfriend?
Answer: I didn't like him at all. My friend Jane said he is a bad egg.

CHEESE, IMPORTANT, AIRLINE
Idiom He is a big cheese.
Meaning Very important person.
Example He is a big cheese in the city.
Question: Who is that gentleman standing by the door?
Answer: That's Richard Branson. He's a big cheese in the airline business.

BUTTER, BASIS, BASIC
Idiom It's my bread and butter.
Meaning It's the basis of what I am doing.
Example The basic needs of my life.
Question: I can't lose this job. Its my bread and butter.
Answer: Me neither, I hope the company can solve its financial problems.

BACON, BRINGING, DELIVER, ENJOYING
Idiom Bringing home the bacon.
Meaning To earn a living from work done. To deliver on time.
Example He always brings home the bacon.
Question: I'm really enjoying my job at the moment. Its the best feeling in the world, bringing home the bacon. How is your job going?
Answer: Yes, I agree. I'm loving it.
6).
FLATTERING, OF COURSE, HOMEWORK
Idiom To butter someone up.
Meaning To be flattering in order to get one’s own way.
Example I will have to butter her up to get what I need.
Question: She wont help me with my homework so I will have to butter her up a little. Can you help me?
Answer: Yes of course. What do you want me to say?

Idiom To use a carrot and stick
Meaning To offer a reward for a task to be done.
Example The raise was a carrot and stick for him to get the job done.
Question: He wont do the job for me. He says he wants more money. Do you think a raise will be a carrot and stick for him?
Answer: It depends how much you offer him.

CUCUMBER, CALM, PRESSURE, REACTED
Idiom To be as cool as a cucumber.
Meaning Calm under pressure.
Example He was as cool as a cucumber when telling me.
Question: I can't believe how he reacted this morning. Did you know how good he is?
Answer: Yes, he is as cool as a cucumber.

Idiom He is a couch potato
Meaning To be lazy.
Example He has become a couch potato since he lost his job.
Question: He has become really lazy since he lost his job. Have you got any ideas to get him moving again.
Answer: No, he has always been a couch potato.

Idiom It is the cream of the crop.
Meaning He, she or it is the best available.
Example The students are the cream of the crop.
Question: What do you think of my students?
Answer: They are the cream of the crop and they will do very well in the exams next week.

DOG, WORKED
IDIOM To work like a dog.
MEANING To work very, very much.
EXAMPLE The man worked like a dog all his life.
Question: How hard do you work?
Answer: I work very, very hard, like a dog.
2).
AHEAD, EVERYONE, PACK
IDIOM Ahead of the pack
MEANING To be in front of everyone else in what he or she is doing.
EXAMPLE The product was launched ahead of the competition.
Question: How are your English studies going?
Answer: Very well thank you. I am well ahead of the pack.
3).
ALLEY CAT, ARRIVE
IDIOM She is like an alley cat.
MEANING She stays out very late at night.
EXAMPLE That woman is like an alley cat.
Question: What time did your sister arrive home last night?
Answer: I don't know but she is just like an alley cat.
4).
BAT, BLIND
IDIOM As blind as a bat.
MEANING The person is very blind. Cannot see very well.
EXAMPLE I didn't see it. I must be as blind as a bat.
Question: Did you see that girl walk past the window this morning?
Answer: No, I'm as blind as a bat.

BUSY, BEAVER, GARAGE, AFTERNOON
IDIOM As busy as a beaver
MEANING Means that the person is very, very busy.
EXAMPLE The worker was working like a beaver.
Question: Can you help me to clean my garage this afternoon please?
Answer: No, sorry I'm as busy as a beaver this afternoon. But I can help you tomorrow.

IDIOM As bent as a dogs hind leg.
MEANING Means that the object or idea is not straight.
EXAMPLE His idea was as bent as a dogs back leg.
Question: I wouldn't trust him. He is as bent as a dogs hind leg.
Answer: Me neither. I don't trust him.

IDIOM As drunk as a skunk.
MEANING Means that the person has had too much alcohol to drink.
EXAMPLE The man was as drunk as a skunk when he arrived home.

MEANING Meaning that the person or animal is very fat or over weight. The person has been eating too much.

IDIOM As gentle as a lamb.
MEANING The person or animal is very gentle or kind.
