Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

579 tools and 208 practice questions for aPHRi preparation in one course, with study games and exam trainers: 272 ready-to-use files, checklists, templates and procedures, plus 307 models and methods.

Study the topic, take the tool, play the game, check yourself with a test.

Why first-time candidates struggle

aPHRi is an entry-level exam, but it covers the whole HR function: HR operations, recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, development and retention, employee relations and risk. Candidates who are new to HR read the definitions and still cannot picture the work behind them. Then the exam describes a situation and asks what HR should do.

What changes after this course

You learn each topic through the tools HR uses. A hiring kit shows what a selection process looks like. A pay and benefits calculator shows how the numbers work. A workplace investigation file shows the steps and the records. When a question describes a situation, you recognise it. Then you test yourself: a quiz, a practice test, and a full mock exam with a readiness scorecard.

The highlight: study games and exam trainers

Preparation does not have to be reading and re-reading. The lecture files of the U.S. aPHR section are interactive: you open them in a browser and play.

  • Three study games: flashcards, memory and match. Flip the cards and sort them into known and still learning, find term and definition pairs on a memory board, or connect the pairs against the clock. The games are built into 7 lecture files.
  • 7 exam trainers. Each working file has a trainer with 15 exam-style questions on its topic.
  • A full aPHR mock exam. 65 questions in 1 hour 45 minutes, followed by a readiness scorecard.

What is inside: 579 tools, counted file by file

You do not have to take this number on trust. Open any lecture and read its description: every tool inside is listed there by name.

  • 60 downloadable resources: the lecture presentations plus 11 standalone working files (a mock exam, a readiness scorecard, kits, a calculator, a law map, checklists and glossaries)
  • 261 ready-to-use tools inside the presentations:
  • 76 step-by-step procedures and workflows: two-pass exam pacing plan, workforce planning, payroll audit, grievance investigation
  • 65 templates and sample documents: exam study hours allocation calculator, job specification outline, employee turnover rate, total rewards statement
  • 37 checklists: OnVUE exam-day preparation, job offer letter, salary survey quality, exit interview
  • 35 scorecards, rubrics and scoring matrices: aPHR weighted readiness, merit increase matrix, performance rating and action scale, likelihood-impact risk matrix
  • 26 question lists and conversation scripts: STAR interview, lawful interview question substitutions, training needs manager interview, employee engagement pulse survey
  • 11 formulas and metric sets: recruitment metrics, training effectiveness metrics, pay range metrics, employee relations metrics
  • 4 ready AI prompts: English conversation tutor, LinkedIn profile analysis, LinkedIn About section generation
  • 7 other working tools: training intervention decision guide, fringe benefit tax treatment guide, ADA medical information decision guide, work-made-for-hire decision guide
  • 307 models and methods explained with examples: Ulrich HR operating model, Big Five personality model, Total Rewards model, SMART goals
  • 208 practice questions: 7 exam trainers of 15 questions each (105), a 65-question aPHR mock exam (1 hour 45 minutes) in the lecture materials, a final aPHRi practice test of 33 questions (33 minutes, 80% to pass) and a 5-question quiz, plus a role play

Where the tools are

  • aPHRi core (5 sections, 131 tools). HR business environment and key HR functions, workforce planning, recruitment and selection, compensation, benefits and performance management, training, retention and termination, risk management and HR compliance. Ends with the final practice test.
  • U.S. edition: aPHR (167 tools). Eight lectures on U.S. employment law and practice: talent acquisition, learning and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, safety and privacy, and the 65-question mock exam with a readiness scorecard.
  • English for HR (358 tools). Thirty lectures for international students: recruiting, performance, total rewards, global mobility and HR analytics English.

Who is teaching

I am Mike, the #1 HR instructor on Udemy, with 1,800,000+ course enrollments from 170,000 students, and the author of about 200 books on Amazon. I built the people system at Preply as it became a unicorn and worked at Wargaming, iDeals and Alfa-Bank across 20 years in HR. I hold PHRi, SHRM-CP and HCI sHRBP certifications and represent HRCI in Eastern Europe.

I have built exam preparation tools to help myself and other learners practise HR knowledge. I created a ChatGPT agent that reads the Exam Content Outline and generates questions at a chosen difficulty level. After an answer, it explains whether the response is correct and why. Learners can ask for clarification or switch to harder questions within the same conversation. This experience connects directly to the practice tools in this course.

How to use the course

Go through the five core sections in order, then take the final practice test. If you are sitting the U.S. aPHR exam, add the U.S. section and finish with the mock exam. Section and lecture titles show how many tools are inside, and each lecture description lists them by name.

What is included

  • 51 lectures across 8 sections, 29.5 hours
  • 60 downloadable resources: lecture presentations and working files
  • 579 tools across the lessons, ready to use in your preparation and your first HR job
  • 208 practice questions: 7 exam trainers, a 65-question mock exam, a 33-question practice test and a quiz
  • Three study games in 7 lecture files: flashcards, memory and match
  • Lifetime access to all materials
  • Active instructor support in the Q&A section
  • A Udemy Certificate of Completion

Where to start

Take the quiz in the first section before you study anything: it shows how much of the HR basics you already know. Candidates who prepare with working tools remember the logic behind the answers, and every week of delay is a week your exam date moves further away. Enrol now and start your first lesson today.
