In this part I'll introduce the course for you and give you some quick pointers on what you can expect.
Plus in the intro part you'll find a video on the lightmeter and the color checker, two important tools we discuss before we start with the course itself.
In this segment some information about the light meter, don't skip it if you don't use one :-) trust me.
Get your colors and whitebalance correct and a LOT more. The Colorchecker is an important tool for your photography.
The magic of the Fresnel. Who doesn't love those old classic masters from the BW era with their stunning images. Well a lot of those were shot with Fresnels, a pretty unique lightsource and awesome for fashion or portraits. But ... very expensive, in this part I'll show you how to make your own studio Fresnel without breaking the bank and getting the same results as the very expensive ones.
One of the things we all carry now a days, the smartphone, you can't life without it right?
You probably already know the camera is pretty cool, but how about using your smartphone as a lightsource ? well in this chapter I'll use just that.
One of the first light sources we learn to play with as a kid is of course a torch (flashlight) and now a days you can get some awesome bright led flashlights so why not.... well you guessed it, use them for photography?
This is how this idea actually started. Someone challenged me to use just one lightbulb for a series, this was mainly based on the fact I always tell my students that it's all about what you do with the lighting and not about the price of your gear. In fact I loved using just that lightbulb so much it became a part of my demo material and workshops topics and eventually it let to this video, so I'm sure you're going to enjoy this segment.
I think from all the lightsources I use this is one of my favorites. Not only is it cool to use as a lightsource but it's also a great prop that will spice up most sets. Highly recommended.
This is an exception to the other ones in the fact that it's not cheap. I did include it however because the Icelight will give you some really cool and amazing lighting solutions. I think you're really gonna dig this one
Some people call the light snakes, some call them light tubes but in essence it's the same (I think) a lighttube that emits light. Same idea as Christmas lights, and that's also why we included those in this setup. The tube gives you a totally different challenge but it's a cool one.
These little led cubes really caught my eyes a few years ago and I still use them today, in fact we are doing some demos where I only use these little powerful light cubes and people always are amazed by what they can do. So they had to be in this video of course. In my opinion every video/photographer should carry 1-2 of these with him/her all the time for when you need that little extra light, use them on their own and you have a portable studio :-)
It goes in and out of fashion but the ring light has it's own distinct look and feel and is without a doubt one of the light sources that is very interesting if you're into beauty portraits or fashion. And as you can see in this segment you don't have to use the normal way :-)
Led panels are everywhere and where in the past they were expensive and not that flexible now a days you can even buy panels that can bend and are cheap. In this chapter I'll show you what you can do for your creative photography with led panels.
You've already seen the making of videos and some of the results... but how did I do it?
Well in this chapter I'll show you some of the retouching tips and tricks.
Often during workshops I get the excuse that someone can't take great portraits or fashion shots because.... and fill in any excuse, but often it's the lack of lighting... in this course I show you that you literally can start making amazing portraits/fashion shots today with any light source you have available.
I show you how to make your own Fresnel, how to use Tungsten, Christmas lights, Led Panels, a Torch, lume cubes, icelight, and a lot lot more.
