This introduction provides a quick context into what the participant can expect from the course; specifically what makes it different from what is currently available and how it adds value to the type of panic, trauma based or generalized anxiety the participant may be experiencing.
This first module will provide a frame of reference for understanding key concepts that will be referred to throughout the course such as the nervous system and its responses, the way anxiety manifests in the body and what would be the signs and/or symptoms of that distress. There are references made to understanding how trauma creates anxiety and stress in the body and the process of beginning to work with it. There is a bonus section included on the advantageous side of anxiety which is a helpful spin on the prior view that all anxiety is maladaptive.
This second module will provide a deep dive into the Somatic Psychotherapeutic Approach to working with anxiety and the postures and movements of how anxiety can be released. It also identifies what are the co-occurring messages associated with anxiety in the body. There will be specific references made to the types of psycho-social situations that create this distress and how emotional safety and well-being are threatened and/or how the individual experiences it as threatening to their ability to function optimally.
This third module builds on module two by giving more references about the concepts of body attunement and how this is the basis of tracking your nervous system responses to achieve greater mastery and regulation of your emotions and anxiety. It also discusses the importance of nervous system regulation and how to achieve this through the body. Lastly it serves to build capacity to do a 'sitting with practice' which allows the participant to go beyond just knowing what is making their body respond in a negative way; but also identify the actions the body desires the participant to take in order for resolution to the emotional state or situation to occur.
This fourth module culminates with the 'Skill building' aspect of the course where a variety of nervous system regulation techniques, somatic exercises and neuro-biological tools of soothing an anxious brain are taught.
This gives a brief note of thanks by the presenter for journeying with her. This begins a new chapter in the participant's life where he/she/they now having the tools to make them feel more in control, with a resurgence of hope and a good jumping off point to beginning therapy and/or engaging in personal growth work in the future.
