I have just realized that you can change the PDF documents in your resources to word docs with this free tool and then you can modify them if you want to add your own spa name, logos, website etc.
Here are my recommendations to you on how you should use this course.
You can join the Facebook group if you like, it's a great resource for you.
Sorry for this, but I thought I should explain what is happening from time to time in the background.
If you are going to use beeswax and the butter you will need to have a double boiler to melt them or alternatively, like I do, just use a pyrex jug and a pot for the stove to put the water into it.
Here you will find some links to where you can buy products if you are not sure. Also, I have supplied you with a general list of what I use throughout the course. You should have pretty much everything in your kitchen that you need to use
In this lecture I show you how to simply sanitize your pots and implements that you work with. This is important to avoid having your products get contaminated and improve their shelf life.
You will hear a lot about the comedogenic scale throughout the course, simply put, it is a scale from 0-5 with 0 meaning that an oil or butter has the least propensity to clog pores in the skin (think: getting pimples, blackhead etc) and 5 being the MOST pore clogging. As I mention in the lecture, this is a guideline but there are exceptions.
When it comes to getting serious about being really exact when making your products it is a very good idea to start weighing them. You blends will be more accurate and is especially important when doing things like lip balms. If you don't have one there is no need to worry but if you can get one, it would be preferable.
If you decide that you want start selling to your massage clients, friends, family or at say, farmers markets etc., you will need to know how to price your products so that you know what they cost you and how much you make from each product. Here I show you how to do this.
Here is a link if you want Avery to make you custom labels for your products.
https://www.avery.com/custom-printing/
It is important to know how to label your products if you are going to sell them to comply with the FDA regulations in the USA. I cannot answer for all other countries so you may need to check. However, these are the basic guidelines for people in the States and will give you a general idea wherever you live.
It is a good idea to know the general shelf life of your products so that you can tell people and also so that you know for yourself. Here I explain how to calculate the shelf life of various products. Remember that you can also check the notes in your resources of the shelf life of the carrier oils and butters as well.
This is a very good habit to get into for several reasons. I outline the various reasons for this.
Let's keep the dilution rate down at 1% for our products unless I state otherwise. This means if you have a 100ml product you would add 20 drops of essential oils total to your product. If you are weighing your products and you wanted to be really specific you would add 1 gram of essential oils total to a 100 gram product which again, is 1% dilution rate.
Here are a few suggestions for a product that is 100 grams/100mls in weight:
Calming Skin Soothing Blend: 0.5% (approx 10 drops) lavender essential oil and 0.5% (approx 10 drops) chamomile essential oil.
Floral and Calming: 0.6% (approx 12 drops) geranium essential oil and 0.4% (approx 8 drops) lavender essential oil.
Fresh and Uplifting: 0.6% (approx 12 drops) sweet orange essential oil and 0.4% (approx 8 drops) lavender essential oil.
Sensual: 0.4% (approx 8 drops) ylang ylang essential oil and 0.6% (approx 12 drops) lavender essential oil.
NEW! This is awesome! The dilution calculator!!
Please check the essential oils that are photosensitive and also my safety guidelines about using essential oils. This is very important when using them topically as we do throughout this course.
So if lime essential oil is highly photosensitive, is a fresh lime too?
IN this section I will give you an in-depth look at the oils and butters that we will be using. You will have a completely new respect for the amazing qualities that they have.
The oil produced from Coconuts has been a staple ingredient in beauty products made and used by communities all around the world, especially in tropical and coastal regions.
The name “Coconut” is derived from the 16th-century Portuguese and Spanish word that means “head” or “skull,” because of the three indents that resemble the features of a human head.
In general, Coconut Oil can penetrate the skin easily, due to the small size of its molecules, which are almost as small as essential oil molecules and which allows essential oils to be readily absorbed into the skin when combined with Coconut Oil.
It offers excellent emollience to dry, itchy skin and hair, remaining suitable for sensitive, inflamed and irritated skin.
If you want something other than coconut oil because maybe you are allergic to it, maybe you don't like the smell or maybe because your skin breaks out from using it, here is a great alternative.
When is a virgin not a virgin? Well, what is an extra virgin? Is there really a difference between extra virgin and virgin oils? Yes, and er...no. Come and find out.
Referred to as “liquid gold” by the Greek poet Homer, Olive Oil was so respected that the cutting down of Olive trees was punishable by death, according to the 6th and 7th century B.C. Greek Laws of Solon.
Olive Oil has traditionally been used as an antibacterial agent, a cleanser, a moisturizer, and a massage oil.
Almond Oil has two variants: Bitter Almond Oil and Sweet Almond Oil.
The Bitter variety is derived from the bitter almonds of the botanical known as Prunus dulcis, var. amara, which grows pink flowers. These Almonds are broad and short in shape, containing a compound called Amygdalin. When wild bitter Almonds are crushed, chewed, or processed, the Amygdalin turns into the poisonous liquid commonly known as Cyanide.
The Sweet variety of Almond Oil is derived from only the sweet, edible Almonds of the botanical known as Prunus amygdalus var. dulcis, which grows white flowers. The oil that is obtained from this variety is considered to be a carrier oil and is most commonly used in skin and hair care to enhance the appearance, health, and texture of both.
The high fatty acid content in Castor Oil delays signs of aging by deeply moisturizing, softening and soothing the skin, boosting elasticity, and stimulating collagen production. By exhibiting these activities and slowing the look of wrinkles, it promotes the appearance of skin that is more supple and youthful.
It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that make it excellent for reducing acne, as it penetrates the skin easily without clogging pores or aggravating the skin condition.
Jojoba is technically a liquid wax and it THE best oil for oily skin and acne. It is such a great oil for all skin types also and, as you will learn, benefits not only the skin but also cuticles, nails and hair. It is an amazing oil!
Avocado Carrier Oil is commonly used in cosmetics, due to its fast rate of penetration and absorption, its high vitamin content, its subtle aroma that can easily be masked, and its excellent preservative qualities.
Avocado Oil is less greasy than other oils, and its emulsifying properties produce finer blends.
Beeswax is a natural substance generated and secreted by honey bees. It is hard and breakable when cold but soft and pliable when heated.
Beeswax varies in color, depending on various factors related to the bees themselves as well as the flowers from which the honey is derived.
There are 2 main types of Beeswax: Yellow and White. They vary in their processing methods, benefits, and uses.
It hydrates, conditions, soothes, and calms the skin.
It exfoliates, repairs damage, and promotes the skin’s regeneration.
It diminishes the appearance of the signs of aging. It soothes itchiness and irritation.
It creates a hydrating, long-lasting protective barrier against environmental pollutants.
If you are vegan, or want to make vegan friendly products then here are some great alternatives.
The Shea tree has been nicknamed “Tree of Life,” because of its ability to address numerous skin, hair, and health conditions and also “Mother Nature's Conditioner” because of its exceptional moisturizing and softening properties.
Shea Butter is derived from the kernels of the Shea Tree’s fruits.
Rich in Vitamins A, E and F, it is a natural emollient that nourishes skin to promote its clarity and health. Its moisturizing, circulation-boosting, and anti-inflammatory properties make it a popular ingredient for use in products that address skin problems such as dryness, wrinkles, dark spots, discolorations, stretch marks, and blemishes.
Whether skin is dry or oily, Shea Butter balances its oil production without clogging pores. It melts at body temperature and is known to soothe and hydrate mature skin as well as skin that has been damaged by the harsh effects of the elements.
Cocoa Butter is a rich natural fat derived from the cacao beans contained inside the pods of the Cocoa/Cacao Tree.
Cacao is the name given to the raw, unprocessed beans found in their fruit pods, whereas Cocoa is the name given to the beans after they have been harvested and processed.
It melts at body temperature and works to naturally soothe dry, sensitive skin while reducing and preventing the appearance of scars and unwanted marks.
Tamanu Carrier Oil’s thick, luxurious, and conditioning viscosity penetrates the skin, gently yet effectively restoring skin health by facilitating the growth of newer skin that looks smoother and feels softer.
Its protective properties make it ideal for use before and after spending time outdoors, as it works effectively year-round to protect the skin from dryness and roughness caused by the sun and the wind as well as other harsh effects of the elements.
It works to reduce acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, scarring, ulcers, dryness, itchiness, scaly skin, body odor, fungal infections, rashes, sores, swelling, age spots, sunburn, stretch marks, cellulite, sciatica, rosacea, and foot odor.
The cicatrization effect of Tamanu Oil is known to accelerate the growth of healthy new tissue, thereby facilitating the healing of wounds, and its antioxidant property promotes a rejuvenated appearance by smoothing the look of wrinkles.
By enhancing circulation, it prevents and diminishes the appearance of bruises.
The terms Palm Oil and Palm Kernel Oil are often used interchangeably, but it is important to note that Palm Carrier Oil is derived from the fruit pulp, whereas Palm Kernel Carrier Oil is derived from the kernel of the same fruit.
Palm Carrier Oil is sometimes referred to as “Red Palm Oil,” because of its natural, rich, dark redness when unprocessed.
Historically, Palm Oil was used to soothe headaches, to relieve pain associated with rheumatism, to facilitate the healing of wounds and skin infections, and to negate poison.
Palm Oil hydrates the skin, nourishes the skin affected by eczema, psoriasis and stretch marks, boosts immunity, and delays the onset of wrinkles.
Rosehip Oil has been used largely in medicinal and cosmetic applications, often being regarded as the “Oil of Youth.”
It is considered to be a “dry oil,” due to its thin consistency, which allows it to be easily absorbed without leaving an oily residue on the skin’s surface.
It has skin brightening properties that help restore skin’s natural color and tone while lightening any unwanted dark blemishes.
It effectively reduces the appearance of scars, accelerates skin regeneration, facilitates the healing of wounds and burns, and soothes skin dryness and inflammation.
Despite the fact that Hemp Oil and Hash Oil are both derived from varieties of the Cannabis plant, these two oils are produced in different ways and thus have different properties and effects. Hemp Oil does not exhibit the sedative or narcotic properties that are characteristic of Hash Oil, also known as Cannabis Oil or Marijuana Oil.
What can you do if you don't have one of the ingredients that I recommend?
Ok, let's do this thing! it's time to start making some beautiful body butters and whipped body butters.
So now it's time to have some fun! Let's bring out the double boiler and make this wonderful stretch mark and scar healing butter. It is such a lovely product and really try to get some tamanu oil as it is such an important product in this butter. It is really powerful and has incredible cell regenerating properties.
When treating scars you can enhance the work of your product even further by doing specific scar remodeling techniques. here I show you how to do this.
Beeswax can be such a pain to clean off your utensils and pots once it has hardened. Here is a tip to make it so much easier so that you don't have to deal with the hassle of that.
This is a beautiful anti-inflammatory pain relieving butter that works incredibly well. This is something that you can make for yourself and also sell to your clients, friends and family.
Oops, I have a confession to make. I screwed up a little bit in that last lecture.
This is a fabulously nourishing body butter that is heavenly for the skin.
Here is a whipped body butter with just 2 ingredients and is quick, easy and great for the skin to nourish and moisturize.
This is another stretch mark and scar butter and this type is whipped. You could substitute the essential oils with whatever you like or leave them out completely if you want.
Now that you know how to make these, it is time for you to start experimenting with your new knowledge.
These are absolutely gorgeous. I love using them!
It is not necessary to get these but they sure do make life a lot easier
It is time to teach you how to make these wonderfully nourishing lip balms.

It's time for you to have fun and experiment. Remember also that any of these lip balms can also be used as cuticle balms as well.
Now we make a softer, more luscious blend and make these really terrific lip glosses.
Let's take our carrier oils to a whole new level. By infusing a carrier oil with coffee, it give it a different color and a beautiful coffee aroma. Combine this with cocoa butter in your lip balms or body butter and you have this delightful coffee and chocolate aroma. Splendid!
Now, more infusions into your oil. In this lecture I show you how to infuse herbs into your oils to make them therapeutically more beneficial. You have just taken your product to a new level again!
Here are some simple recipes that you could use for :
Chapped lip, baby bottom or even bug bite balm
84g/3oz calendula infused oil
28g/1oz beeswax
You could add 20 drops of essential oils if you wanted to (lavender, geranium, frankincense, jasmine, chamomile and/or rose would be nice)
Pain or burn salve
56g/2oz calendula infused oil
28g/1oz beeswax
You could add 15 drops of essential oils if you wanted to (lavender, geranium, frankincense, jasmine, chamomile and/or rose would be nice)
It is time to see that wonderful coffee infused oil and I can now start using it in my products.
Vanilla infused jojoba oil. Really, do I need to say anymore? The beautiful aroma of vanilla added to your lip balms, body butters or just as it is as a body oil would be just incredible.
Don't put away your double boilers just yet! We are going to make solid deodorants that are easy and works beautifully.
This is a wonderfully decadent foot scrub. Make the scrub and then apply a little bit to your feet, massage it around and then wash it off. Your feet will feel fabulous! This is perfect for you at the end of a long day out on your feet shopping or just having to stand for a long time.

Here is another version of the foot scrub that oils much wetter and also uses course ground salts. This is especially good for tougher skin. You can try both and see which one suits you better.
And, now a lovely all natural orange and lavender body scrub for you to make.
Sometimes simplest is the best. This enzyme, vitamin and mineral rich product that has antiseptic and antibacterial properties is as good as it gets. You will wonder why you never thought of it before.

Here I am going to show you how to make oil cleansing blends and then the strokes on your face and after that, giving your face a quick steam with warm towels and then wiping it off. In your notes, I have given you blends for different skin types but if you want to, you could always just use one oil instead of getting combination oils like I show you here. (if you wanted to keep it quick and easy) You could just use castor oil, jojoba oil or apricot oil without mixing them.
Other good choices are olive oil (especially for acne prone skin as I talk about later in the acne section), grape seed, Argan, hemp, avocado and sweet almond.
Here is a fabulous mask you can use once or twice a week. It as kaolin clay to grow out the impurities from your skin, the soothing and calming anti-inflammatory properties of dried ground chamomile flowers made into a tea (you can just use water if you don't have this), ground oats which are lovely and soothing as well, the benefits of you favorite carrier oil and also pure raw honey. Raw honey is mineral, albumins (water-soluble proteins), enzymes, and vitamins rich. It is not only antiseptic and antibacterial but offers moisturizing and toning properties to the skin. It is great for all types of skin including sensitive and problem skin.
It would almost be a crime if you didn't make this!
Here is a very effective 3 ingredient clay mask. Once again we use the powers of the clay to draw out impurities, the yoghurt is excellent for your skin as well for cell regeneration and chamomile is absolutely wonderful as it is very soothing and calming to your skin.
So, picture this...you have to go away for work or on holidays and would love to be able to cleanse your skin or even make a mask but you can't just take all of your clays and other ingredients. Here is the answer! You are going to love it.
If you are going to use a hydrosol as your toner and want to add essential oils to it then you need to add a dispersant. Here I go through exactly what you need to do.
