This video is a big picture overview of valves and their role in an irrigation / sprinkler system. Be sure to download the PDFs from our resources.
We'll go over the two installation configurations, and identify the best locations to install each type of valve.
Learn about the different types of manual valves and where to use them. Use your knowledge to make wise choices with manual valve placement to control and isolate parts of an irrigation system.
There are some situations with sprinkler systems that require a check valve. Learn about check valves and their placement.
Learn where and how to use a Pressure Reducing Valve. You'll understand how to properly adjust the valve and be able to confidently install them on sprinkler systems.
We'll explain all about the unique valve type known as the indexing or sequencing valve. After completing this lesson and the next, you'll be educated, informed, and confident to service any indexing valve in the field.
Activity Included!
We recommend you pick up an indexing valve and follow along as we troubleshoot, disassemble, and rebuild, a K-Rain Series 4000. Although, any model of valve would be good to work on.
We'll start off with a general discussion of solenoid valves, then look at each piece inside of a typical valve, disassemble one, and walk through some illustrations showing a basic operation of a solenoid valve.
This lesson is an important piece of the knowledge puzzle, that is, understanding all of the options available to you. You'll know all of the options and features available for residential and light commercial sprinkler systems.
Activities included!
Have a multi-meter and a solenoid valve ready, and follow along as we troubleshoot through a couple of valve repair scenarios. Access to a functioning sprinkler system timer would be helpful for practice.
In some cities, states, or countries, anti-siphon valves are preferred because of their backflow prevention units. Learn about the where and how to use this versatile valve.
Activity Included!
Pick up an Hunter PGV and a few basic tools and follow along as we break one down and put it back together. We'll also talk about the valve specs, solenoid specs, and different models available.
Activity Included!
Pick up an Irritrol 205 and a few basic tools and follow along as we break one down and put it back together. We'll also talk about the valve specs, solenoid specs, and different models available.
Activity Included!
Pick up a K-Rain Pro Series valve and a few basic tools and follow along as we break one down and put it back together. We'll also talk about the valve specs, solenoid specs, and different models available.
Activity Included!
Pick up a Rain Bird DV-100 and a few basic tools and follow along as we break one down and put it back together. We'll also talk about the valve specs, solenoid specs, and different models available.
Activity Included!
Pick up an Rain Bird PGA and a few basic tools and follow along as we break one down and put it back together. We'll also talk about the valve specs, solenoid specs, and different models available.
Learn all about the optional Pressure Regulator available for some valves. It's a great feature to have when you need individual pressure levels at each zone.
This online video course is about all the different kinds of valves that can be used in an irrigation / sprinkler system. Beginners can take this course with only a minimum of knowledge and skills such as using a multi-meter.
.
Be sure to download the 25 page Study Guide from the link in the first lesson. We recommend that you acquire a multi-meter and the different valves that we disassemble and follow along in real time. You'll gain so much confidence by troubleshooting and rebuilding a bunch of different valves.
.
The course is in English and uses the Imperial Measurement System (inches, feet, pounds.) We hope to provide lessons in Metric and Spanish at some point in the future. For now, download Hunter's Friction Loss Charts PDF that has a conversion chart for Metric / Imperial.
.
Some things you'll learn:
Understand the difference between different valve types used on sprinkler systems.
Know where and how to install the different valve types on a sprinkler system.
Disassemble and repair several models of residential level irrigation valves.
Troubleshoot and repair both electrical and mechanical aspects of several common valve problems.
.
Who should take this course?
