If you are new to Udemy, here are some quick tips for taking a course. Please make sure to become familiar with the Dashboard and ask questions (any question). Also please note that you may adjust the video's to play in auto mode or not. You can also speed up or slow down the video if you are having trouble with your video skipping or not sounding or showing correctly.
In this section we will go over each of the supplies needed, if you have taken an alcohol ink course with me you will just need to view any additional materials and colors in the PDF under the RESOURCE section of the next lecture: "Printable Material List"
In this section we will cover Yupo paper and how I prepare it for my paintings. You may choose to tape down your paper if you are completing a smaller painting (5x7). Of course this course is all about you, so feel free to choose a larger size.
List of Materials you will need, if you would like to purchase any items online there is a Full list and link attached for items under the Bonus Lecture.
In this section I will show you how to draw in a simple Free hand sketch of your Sea Turtle. You may print off a PDF sketch under "resources" downloadable materials to go by. You can also choose to use a Lightbox or Transparent Yupo paper to trace the picture.
Let's work on a few practice sessions using a wet in wet technique to create a underwater look. By the end of this process you will feel more comfortable mixing your colors directly on the paper and learn to create a smooth transition of colors. Feel free to try this a few times using smaller scraps of Yupo paper and try other background color choices to see what direction you would like to take your painting.
Now that you are more comfortable with your water background and have chosen your colors, let's create your underwater background for your Sea Turtle painting using the steps we have just practiced.
Now that we have the background colors in, we will remove and lift color with a blender pen or using 91% alcohol and a brush.
We will now add more color back in to layer the shades in the Turtle's mouth area.
Now let's continue lifting the background colors in the head area and layer them with a nice yellow, creating a green tone.
Let's continue to add in some more colors to the head and neck area.
Now we are ready to detail the eye with a black pen.
Let's begin to add some colors to the body of the turtle. We will be creating a few layers to add texture. Remember feel free to choose your own colors.
Now that we have the body filled in we will begin filling in the flipper area.
Let's do another practice session. We will create some ripples and bubbles in the water using a blender pen.
Now that we've learned how to create that watery/ripple look in our practice session, let's work on our paintings.
Finish up all the little details and touch ups using a gel pen and signing our work.
In this section you will see how I seal my Alcohol Inks. If you frame your painting with UV glass I have found that you can skip the spray. I have been working with Inks for over 4 years and I can only comment on my own experience as an artist. As with most art mediums direct sunlight can fade them. I often work with Art Resin which has a built in UV Stabilizer. For AI on Yupo I seal with Kamar and UV Spray and I recommend UV glass.
I have my Ranger brand AI pieces hanging in my own home in a light filled room (Not direct sun rays) still testing after 4 years so can't say for longer but do not see obvious signs of fading on those pieces so I would rate that as excellent, but in direct sun the results are very poor. Alcohol Inks are a Dye and were meant for Crafts not fine art and they are NOT lightfast.
This is an extra Bonus video added from previous watercolor class. You can follow the same steps to mat and frame your Alcohol Ink paintings. If you choose to use UV glass, sealing or UV spray is not needed. Just make sure that your painting does not touch the glass. (Usually a Mat will provide enough space).
How to give your paintings a professional framing look. In this section you will learn about all the supplies you will need and we will cover how to add backings and wire to complete your painting.
Thank you for taking this course, it would mean the WORLD to me if you would consider leaving a 5 star review.

Here are some recent reviews from ART STUDENTS:
★★★★★ "EASY TO FOLLOW"
I have been a Bob Ross certified instructor for 26 years and I have taught in various venues. Kelly is very clear in her instructions and she makes it easy to follow what she is doing. The class is simple enough for beginners and yet she gives the student plenty of room for creating a little on their own. The instruction on the supplies was also clear and easy to follow.
~Cherly M.
★★★★★ "ENJOYED"
"I enjoyed doing this this painting. I am new to watercolor. Was able to follow, having to go back occasionally. Will probably do this painting several times just for the practice. I contacted the Kellie Chasse sight because of interest in alcohol oil painting. So will be an active student for awhile to come. Thank you for a great beginning!!"
~Kathleen F.
★★★★★ "BIG HELP"
"Because everything was explained so simply, and Kellie's painting in real time was a very big help. I intend to take more of her courses in the future."
