Here's a little bit about your instructor, Kellie Chasse, her work, and why she teaches.
If you are watching on a Mobile device please note that you will need an App that opens a PDF to see the supply material list.
In this video we will cover all the supplies used to create a ZEN Disk and Tile. Students will see all materials needed to complete the backing and hanger. Supplies will be covered in detail from Alcohol Ink, Acrylic, and Resin brands, and colors used as well as a Printable PDF will be made available to print out.
Material List is under Resources (Blue Button) on the left hand side of your video. You can download it to your computer.
If this is your first resin course with me, let's chat about the basics.
I've used this lecture in other resin courses that you may have taken, so please re-watch if you need a refresher.
If you struggle with bubbles here are a few tips:
1. Warm your resin in a hot bath while still in their separate bottles prior to mixing. The warm resin will not produce as many bubbles.
2. When stirring or mixing your two-part epoxy resin make sure to not whip it or stir fast. That will create more bubbles.
In this section students will begin to prepare for mixing the resin. We will cover how to prep the space, protect tables, and how to level space for the Zen Disk and tile.
The aluminum disks are from Etundra they are actually a very inexpensive aluminum pizza separator! Compared to crafts metals the price is much better and they have many sizes available.
In this section students will see step by step how to measure and mix Art resin. Students will have an understanding of how to make sure resin cures properly and we will cover how long students have to work with resin before it begins to cure. Attached is a Art Resin Calculator to help decide how much Art Resin one should mix. (length/wide).
In this section students will divide resin into different cups and add colors choices. The demo will cover High Flow Acrlyic paints, Alcohol Ink, and India Ink. Students will see the differences between the colors, brand, and medium. Students may add color choices, and mix any medium, brand, or color they choose. Watch the demo first to see the differences. Keep in mind that Alcohol Ink is the only one that is not lightfast, which means it may fade in sunlight or UV rays.
Now that you colors are mixed we are ready to begin our pouring of the resin. In this section you will see the differences between opaque paints and translucent paints. You will learn to move the resin and paints with your hands and other techniques.
Students will see how a metallic ink can be used with the resin. In this students will see how the resin reacts differently when poured directly on the resin verses being mixed thoroughly.
In this lecture students will see how to use a torch to remove air bubbles from the resin.
It is recommend that students watch the entire course before beginning. The Tile section can be used as a practice session if they are not comfortable with starting the Disk. Students can mix up a smaller portion of resin or keep it the same and practice on a few tiles.
Students can also use the Tiles for left over resin projects.
In this lecture students will see how to make corrections or changes. Experimenting is part of the process. In this section we have added some powdered pigments because of a fading color.
Now that students have removed all the air bubbles, we will begin adding more texture to the painting by using more mixed media to finish off the painting.
In this lecture students will see how to seal the back of the Zen disk, creating a completed look by using some cork on the back. In this section we will glue the cork onto the back of the disk after removing any excess resin from the back side to create a good seal.
I did a project for the Alcohol Ink Art Community that I wanted to share with you. In this presentation, we'll look at using a cut piece of wood from the hardware store to create a dirty pour with resin.
Students will find another fun little ZEN project to create some cell phone resin stands/grips. Learn to prep and create some one of a kind pieces.
Creating the first layer in your molds using Art Resin.
Let's get some ideas on what you can use in your resin. We'll cover some examples that I love to use.
Learn to prep your blanks, and adding more layers to your project.
In this lecture, we will add the blanks to the resin, and add some colors. We'll also de-mold our final projects.

Here are some recent reviews from ART STUDENTS:
★★★★★ "EASY TO FOLLOW"
I have been a Bob Ross certified instructor for 26 years and I have taught in various venues. Kelly is very clear in her instructions and she makes it easy to follow what she is doing. The class is simple enough for beginners and yet she gives the student plenty of room for creating a little on their own. The instruction on the supplies was also clear and easy to follow.
~Cherly M.
★★★★★ "ENJOYED"
"I enjoyed doing this this painting. I am new to watercolor. Was able to follow, having to go back occasionally. Will probably do this painting several times just for the practice. I contacted the Kellie Chasse sight because of interest in alcohol oil painting. So will be an active student for awhile to come. Thank you for a great beginning!!"
~Kathleen F.
★★★★★ "BIG HELP"
"Because everything was explained so simply, and Kellie's painting in real time was a very big help. I intend to take more of her courses in the future."
~Jill B.
