ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE EXPLAINED
Artificial intelligence - or AI for short - is technology that enables a computer to think or act in a more 'human' way. It does this by taking in information from its surroundings, and deciding its response based on what it learns or senses.
It affects the way we live, work and have fun in our spare time - and sometimes without us even realizing.
AI is becoming a bigger part of our lives, as the technology behind it becomes more and more advanced. Machines are improving their ability to 'learn' from mistakes and change how they approach a task the next time they try it.
Some researchers are even trying to teach robots about feelings and emotions.
You might not realize some of the devices and daily activities which rely on AI technology - phones, video games and going shopping, for example.
What does AI do?
AI can be used for many different tasks and activities.
Personal electronic devices or accounts (like our phones or social media) use AI to learn more about us and the things that we like.
One example of this is entertainment services like Netflix which use the technology to understand what we like to watch and recommend other shows based on what they learn.
It can make video games more challenging by studying how a player behaves, while home assistants like Alexa and Siri also rely on it.
Where did AI come from?
The term 'artificial intelligence' was first used in 1956. In the 1960s, scientists were teaching computers how to mimic - or copy - human decision-making.
This developed into research around 'machine learning', in which robots were taught to learn for themselves and remember their mistakes, instead of simply copying. Algorithms play a big part in machine learning as they help computers and robots to know what to do.
From here, the research has continued to develop, with scientists now exploring 'machine perception'.
This involves giving machines and robots special sensors to help them to see, hear, feel and taste things like human do - and adjust how they behave as a result of what they sense.
The idea is that the more this technology develops, the more robots will be able to 'understand' and read situations.
DIGITAL MARKETING IN TODAY'S WORLD
When people think about artificial intelligence (AI) today, they might think of computers that can speak to us like Alexa or Siri, or grand projects like self-driving cars.
These are very exciting and attention-grabbing, but the reality of AI is actually thousands of tools and apps running quietly behind the scenes, making our lives more straightforward by automating simple tasks or making predictions.
This is true across every industry and business function, and especially true in marketing, where leveraging AI to put products and services in front of potential customers has been standard practice for some time, even though we may not always realize it!
In business today, the term AI is used to describe software that is capable of learning and getting better at doing its job without input from humans. This means that while we’ve become used to using machines to help us with the heavy lifting, now they can start to help us with jobs that require thinking and decision-making, too.
A huge number of questions that would previously have needed human intervention to answer – such as “will this person be interested in my products?” or “what results will I get from this advertising campaign?” can now be answered by machines – if they are given the right data.
And because machines can answer questions far more quickly than humans, they can easily chain together complex strings of queries to come up with predictions, such as who is most likely to buy your products and where the best places to advertise might be.
Behind all business AI today: Automating the processes of learning and decision-making in order to create knowledge (usually referred to as “insight”) that helps to improve performance.
And marketing is one area where it’s certainly been put to good use!
AI POWERED DIGITAL MARKETING
AI Tools - Chatbots
Whether unlocking your phone through face recognition or telling Alexa to play a song, artificial intelligence has filtered into our everyday lives.
Now, you can harness the power of AI to do your writing, too. At your command, AI chatbots can write that paper you have been dreading to start, write code, compose emails, generate art or even write Excel formulas for you.
ChatGPT has made quite a splash, motivating competitors to make their own versions. As a result, there are a variety of capable AI chatbots to choose from that can accomplish different things, giving you more options to find one that meets your needs.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a conversational AI chatbot by OpenAI that can produce text for you based on any prompt you input, generating emails, essays, poems, raps, grocery lists, letters, and much more.
In addition to writing for you, ChatGPT can chat with you about simple or complex topics such as "What are colors?" or "What is the meaning of life?"
ChatGPT is also proficient in STEM and can write and debug code, and even solve complex math equations.
The best part is that the service is completely free to the public because it is still in its research and feedback-collection phase.
Bing ChatGPT
Microsoft unveiled a new AI-improved Bing, which runs on GPT-4, the newest version of OpenAI's language model systems which is more capable and reliable.
It solved two major issues with ChatGPT, including having access to current events and linking back to the sources it retrieved its answer from.
YouChat
YouChat also uses OpenAI's GPT-3. With YouChat, you can input a prompt for what you want to be written and it will write it for you.
The chatbot outputs an answer to anything you input including math, coding, translating, and writing prompts.
A major advantage is that this chatbot takes sources from Google.
For example, if you ask YouChat "What is soda?", it will produce a conversational text response and takes sources from Google specifying where it pulled its information from.
The chatbot is just as functional, without annoying capacity blocks, and has no cost.
Ultimately, the best chatbot platform for you will depend on your unique requirements and resources. It's a good idea to start with a clear understanding of your goals and then evaluate the platforms that align with those goals.

NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING (NLP)
In the realm of artificial intelligence, Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a branch of computer science that focuses on enabling computers to comprehend both written text and spoken language in a manner similar to human understanding.
This field encompasses various tasks that break down human-generated text and speech, helping computers in deciphering and interpreting the information.
These tasks play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between humans and machines. Some key tasks include:
Speech Recognition:
This task, also referred to as speech-to-text, involves converting spoken language into textual data. It is an essential component for applications that utilize voice commands or provide spoken responses.
Part of Speech Tagging:
Part of speech tagging involves determining the grammatical category of a word within a given context. It helps differentiate the usage of words in different roles, such as identifying whether "make" is a verb or noun in various sentences.
Word Sense Disambiguation:
When a word has multiple meanings, this task involves selecting the most appropriate meaning based on the surrounding context.
For instance, it helps distinguish between different interpretations of the word "make" in different sentences.
Named Entity Recognition (NER):
NER identifies and classifies words or phrases as specific entities, such as names of people, locations, organizations, and more.
For example, it can identify "Kentucky" as a location or "Fred" as a person's name.
Co-reference Resolution:
Co-reference resolution involves identifying instances where two words or phrases refer to the same entity.
This helps establish connections within a text and interpret pronouns and references accurately.
Sentiment Analysis:
Sentiment analysis aims to extract subjective attributes and emotions from text.
It helps discern attitudes, emotions, and tones expressed in written content, such as identifying whether a statement is positive, negative, or neutral.
Natural Language Generation:
This task complements speech recognition by converting structured information into human-readable language.
It involves generating coherent and contextually relevant sentences or text.
In summary, NLP is an important facet of AI that equips computers with the ability to comprehend and interpret human language.
Through the tasks mentioned, NLP enables machines to bridge the communication gap between humans and computers effectively.

AI MARKETING STRATEGY
Targeted Marketing
The high-level use case for AI in marketing is that it improves ROI by making your marketing – often one of a company’s biggest expenses – more efficient.
In the old days, before online advertising, businesses would pay huge amounts of money for TV, radio, or newspaper adverts, in the full knowledge that only a small number of the people who saw their ads would ever become customers.
This was tremendously inefficient, but companies didn't have any choice if they wanted to position themselves as market leaders.
In the online age, we’ve developed the ability to learn a great deal about who is or isn’t interested in our products and services.
The first breakthroughs came thanks to the likes of Amazon with their recommendation engine technology and Google and Facebook with their targeted advertising platforms.
Today, each of those platforms iimplement machine learning technology that allows them to become increasingly effective as they are fed more data on customers and their buying habits. Make sure to make use of those in your strategy.
AI-Driven Content Marketing
The rise in social media marketing and our growing appetite for online content has made content-based marketing the dominant form of marketing in many industries.
AI lends a hand here by helping us work out what type of content our customers and potential customers are interested in and what the most efficient ways are to distribute our content to them.
Advertising creatives have always strived to find formulas for creating adverts that will get people talking and sharing the message with their friends. Now, this can be done automatically using any number of AI-powered tools.
For example, headline generation algorithms that monitor how successful they are and tweak their output to achieve better metrics, such as the open rate of emails, or the share rate of social media posts.
Taking this a step further, AI is developing the ability to take care of the entire content generation process itself, creating copy and images that it knows are likely to be well-received by its audience.
A huge buzzword in this space will be personalization – where individual customers are served content that’s specifically tweaked to them, perhaps using information and reference points that the AI knows are relevant to them, intertwined with the overall marketing messages.
AI will also increasingly be useful for identifying what stage of the buying process a customer is at.
If it detects that they are “shopping around” – comparing products and services that are available - it can serve content designed to differentiate your product or service from those of competitors.
If it detects that they are ready to make a purchase, it can target them with promotions urging them to “act now” to take advantage of a limited-time offer.
Identifying micro-influencers
Influencers are another huge trend in marketing right now, and AI algorithms are already in use to make sure the personalities that are most likely to appeal to you are appearing in your search results and social feeds.
Increasingly, advertisers will also use AI to identify smaller influencers that are most likely to gel with their brands and audiences.
This has led to the emergence of “micro-influencers” – typically everyday people, rather than celebrities, who build a niche audience that cares about their opinion.
AI enables companies to find the micro-influencers with the right audiences for them, across a large number of niches and audience segments.
AI helps establish when it makes sense to pay 100 people $1,000 each to talk about their product, rather than pay $100,000 to Justin Bieber or to the Kardashians.
Once again, here it is about creating efficiency by following the data, rather than simply doing what a marketer thinks or feels is the best plan.
AI in CRM
Customer relationship management is an essential function for any marketer to master, as existing customers are often the most important source of a company’s revenue.
Here, AI can be used to reduce the risk of customer “churn” – by identifying patterns of behavior that are likely to lead to customers heading elsewhere.
These customers can then be automatically targeted with personalized promotions or incentives to hopefully restore their loyalty.
AI-augmented marketers are also increasingly turning to chatbot technology – powered by natural language processing.
This can segment incoming customer inquiries, meaning those who require a quick response can be urgently catered to, to minimize dissatisfaction.
AI-driven CRM will also allow businesses to more accurately forecast sales across all the markets where a company operates, meaning stock and resources can be more efficiently distributed.
Additionally, this should be used in your strategy to maintain the quality of data in the CRM system, identifying customer records where errors or duplicates are likely to exist.
