Description

Hi, my name is Lauren Hansen and I am a 3rd year occupational therapy student at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. This course reviews my doctoral capstone, which focused on aging in place and home accessibility. I completed my capstone at the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, working with their Home Preservation and Aging at Home Program. My capstone was 14 weeks long and during that time I was exposed to the process of home modifications and aging in place. This course will cover my needs assessment and review of literature which looks at the importance and need for aging in place and home accessibility. It will discuss the role occupational therapist can play in planning to age at home. The course will also talk about Habitat for Humanity and describe in detail the Aging at Home Program that is offered. Lastly, my course will review my completed capstone projects, which includes a guide to home modifications, an accessible home layout, a discussion on home modifications for sensory processing disorders, and discuss my completion of the Aging in Place Specialists Certification (CAPS). Planning to age in place and having an accessible home is important for individuals of all ages and abilities!
