This course represents several years of Final Cut Studio videos that I have painstakingly put together. Please note: Many of the videos can be found for free on YouTube.
By subscribing to this course, you will be able to download the media that goes along with many of the lessons. You'll also be able to ask questions and take a self-assessment quiz at the end of each section. I hope you find some value here, considering the amount of time it took to produce these videos.
This course is for those who already are familiar with Final Cut Pro 7. It is not an editing course. This course primarily focuses on visual effects and color correction. That being said, there are also some lessons on working with audio, and media management.
Final Cut Studio is a software package that contains several professional software products that are designed to work together. You cannot purchase Final Cut Pro 7 on it's own. Final Cut Pro 7 also ships with Apple Color, Apple Motion, and SoundTrack Pro.
This course focuses on how these programs work together. Hence, there are several exercises that require using multiple software components. The majority of the training lessons focus around Final Cut Pro 7, but there are some in-depth lessons that cover advanced techniques in Apple Color and Apple Motion.
With a few exceptions, the video lessons do not need to be watched in order. However, I've done by best to keep the lessons organized in a way that make sense. For example, video lessons that include 'creating title effects' or 'color correction' are close together.
Section 8 (Apple Color), could in theory be considered its own course. This Apple Color lessons are very comprehensive.

The 'Pleasantville Effect' is a very popular effect. It's hard to go through a day watching of television without seeing some sort of varient of the pleasantville effect.
The key fundamentals for creating the Pleasantville effect include:- Add at least two copies of the same clip on top of themselves in sequence, and then make the bottom clip layer black and white.
- Use the Chroma Key effect to remove the color that you want to preserve.
- To duplicate a clip directly above itself, highlight a clip and use the keyboard shortcut Option + Shift. Then drag the clip straight up to another track.
- If you need to isolate more than one color, you will need an additional video layer for each color.
- Add at least two copies of the same clip on top of themselves in sequence, and then make the bottom clip layer black and white.

The term luma refers to the brightness of an image. The basic concept on this effect, is that you will be removing a bright area of a video clip, and allowing the video below it to show through.
This video lesson also briefly demonstrates the speed tool, and talks about keyframing. However, these lessons are covered more in depth in other video lessons throughout the course.

Important: There are a couple of places to install plug-ins within Final Cut Pro 7. I recommend installing the plug-in in the following location.
Mac HD / Library / Application Support / Final Cut Pro System Support / Plugins
Also, if you are running Final Cut Pro on the latest version of Mac OS X (Mountain Lion). You may discover that the library folder is now hidden. To fix this- Launch the Terminal application which is located at /Applications/Utilities.
- Within the terminal prompt enter the following command: chflags nohidden ~/Library
After you enter the command, you can quit Terminal. The Library folder will now be visible in the Finder.
