Description
Have you ever imagined tapping into the hidden world of satellite communications—capturing raw signals beaming down from space and transforming them into meaningful information? This course is designed for researchers, hobbyists, and security professionals who want to explore satellite signal monitoring from a defensive and analytical perspective.
We begin with the Iridium satellite network: its purpose, architecture, and L‑band transmissions. You’ll assemble and position your own L‑band antenna, then use a Raspberry Pi to capture live Iridium data streams. You’ll learn techniques for decoding traffic, and other broadcast information—always focusing on understanding signal characteristics and protecting communications infrastructure.
Next, you’ll investigate the Inmarsat constellation. After reviewing Inmarsat’s geosynchronous system, you’ll configure a Raspberry Pi–based SDR receiver to intercept its downlinks. Using tools such as Scytale‑C and JAERO, you’ll extract voice recordings, reconstruct email content, and analyze aerospace telemetry—all with an emphasis on defensive research, privacy considerations, and protocol analysis.
In guided labs, you’ll transform a Raspberry Pi into a dedicated SDR server: installing and fine‑tuning software, automating signal capture, and building data pipelines for long‑term monitoring. You’ll explore best practices for securing your Raspberry Pi server, safeguarding data integrity, and responsibly handling intercepted information.
