Actor Avenues: Career Add Ons and Side Hustles

As actors we are constantly faced with the reality that acting work alone doesn't always pay the bills. So we are often forced to get “survival jobs” that are not fulfilling, time consuming and take us away from our creative endeavors. How do you find work that will also allow you the flexibility and time to audition? And often those jobs with that kind of flexibility, like temp work or waiting on tables, can also be kind of soul sucking. This course describes and explains 4 different ways to make money, make connections, learn and grow as an actor and a creator, and promote yourself and your acting career. I will walk you through the steps of working as a background performer, an audiobook narrator, becoming a filmmaker and a YouTuber. I discuss the benefits of each avenue and teach you how to get started and get motivated, all while maintaining realistic expectations without false promises. The key to thriving in the business is be able to stay in it through hard times. The only way to keep going is by getting all aspects of your career working together. It isn’t easy but if you really want to become and stay a full time actor, you need to have some of this stuff on the side.
