Palette paper (or a foam plate works) Paper towels, and a bowl of water.

Description

We will create some vibrant birch trees using acrylics and a small palette knife.  I recommend a smaller knife as it is easier to control the paint while using it. We will learn how to mask on a foreground and then create the background with layers of color.  We will first mask, and then paint with our palette knives.  I am not fussy about the colors that you may want to use on your background.  This painting is very forgiving so I recommend choosing colors that you like in order to be happy with the background and trees.  Most everyone has success with their creation since any bright colors will make the birch trees pop. We will talk about how to gently blend the colors so that they soften together with each added layer.  We will discuss the importance of using color in more than one area of the painting and how that will help to pull it all together.  Mainly we will play in the paint and experiments with blending colors together.  My goal is to give enough instruction so that we all feel confident enough to begin creating and then experimenting on their own. Please share your creations once they are finished since it is always fun to see the many different interpretations of the same picture.

Who this course is for:

  • Beginner to intermediate painters are welcome. I walk everyone through the basics of a painting and always encourage exploration and creativity.
