As I don't know beforehand what is coming, I can't plan it all out. I can't choose a perfect structure for the material. I cannot develop visual metaphors for all of the key points in the talk in advance.
Notice and respond. This is how sketchnoting works. Developing work in real time and responding to what you are listening and seeing.
It requires a certain amount of thinking in pictures training to be able to respond quickly, but once you learn how sketchnoting works and can stay in the zone while doing it, it becomes easier. The more often you do this kind of thing, the better you get at it.
I have to rely on the skills I have built so far, and I have to accept that I will make mistakes.
Drawing was one of my favourite activities as a child, though I didn't care about the quality or subject matter of what I drew.
Drawing is a joy that children share and then, as they grow up, lose the freedom to do what they want. Most of the time drawing is the first thing kids give up when other responsibilities start piling on.
Challenge accepted. Embrace the new different.

Learning to combine what we see, hear and read—that's an art form in itself. The challenge is to make something that says something clearly and simply, while allowing space for us to interpret what they see.
I want you to do an exercise:
find a notebook and spend 10 minutes filling it with doodle drawings that come into your mind. (The point is not what you draw, but how quickly and easily the drawings flow.)

You can sketch outdoors, on your morning commute or your lunch break. You don't need any fancy equipment or training to start drawing—just choose your favorite subject/ audiobook and GO!

The process. That I follow has four steps to it.
The first step probably isn't surprising. It's when I read the book—and while doing so, take notes in the margins and underline passages that stand out to me. The goal there is to be an active reader rather than a passive one;
How to be an active reader?
To be an active reader underline and make marks with pencils to sentences u re finding useful.
That's why I enjoy using a pencil to make marks directly in the book. But I also seek a balance so that I can stay in the flow of the reading process. I'm not spending too much time going off on my own, but instead stay immersed in the reading experience and while I'm reading.
I'm using the underlining to capture key ideas, the most important ideas from the book, those that might be new to me or feel significant. It's why the margin notes that I captured those connetions and that's a way for me to personalise the reading experience, to integrate things that I am learning about into my own current understanding of the world. And I encourage you to do the do the same.
Similarly as you first reading through a book, finding a way to capture the ideas that stand out to you and make connection to the things in your past or present, and maybe your future.
WHY ARE YOU READING THIS BOOK?
And Speaking of the future, I think it's worth identifying why it is that you're reading this book in the first place. By identifying that personal WHY that will help you decide which ideas are Actually worth capturing, and it might also help you to make the types of connexion that will serve you in the future. Welcome to this new video lecture where I will show you how I used Procreate to sketchnote a podcast. Sketchnoting is a powerful way to take visual notes that help you remember key ideas and concepts from a podcast or any other form of content. And Procreate is a great digital art app that can help you create beautiful and engaging sketchnotes.
To start off, I Googled "viral sketchnotes tweet" to find a popular example of sketchnotes that went viral on social media. I wanted to recreate this sketchnote using Procreate to show you how you can use this app to create your own sketchnotes.
Once I found the sketchnotes, I opened Procreate and created a new canvas. I then used the sketchnotes as a reference to create my own version of the sketchnotes using Procreate.
I started by creating the title of the sketchnotes using a bold font. I then added the main ideas and concepts from the podcast using a combination of words and images. I used different colors and fonts to make the sketchnotes more visually appealing and engaging.
One of the great things about Procreate is that it offers a wide range of brushes and tools that you can use to create different effects. For example, I used the brush tool to create a hand-drawn look for some of the images, and I used the eraser tool to create highlights and shadows.
As I sketchnote, I tried to keep it simple and focused on the main ideas and concepts. I didn't try to capture every detail or piece of information. Instead, I focused on the key points that I wanted to remember from the podcast.
Once I finished sketchnoting, I reviewed and refined my work. I made sure everything was clear and easy to understand, and I added some details to make the sketchnotes more visually engaging.
I used division layout to sketchnote Dr. Aria's clip.
I listened to the podcast clip two times.
Then i summarised main points.

The first step is to get a copy of the book you want to sketchnote and read it cover to cover. You don’t need to understand every detail; just read enough to gain an understanding of what the author is saying and how he or she is saying it.
2. Break down the structure of the book
Most books have a reasonably standard format: introduction, body and conclusion (and possibly subheadings within each section). Sketchnoting helps you get an overview of this structure so that you can sketch out key points as you come across them in your reading, rather than having to wait until after finishing the whole book before doing any sketching at all!
I highlight or underline the main points of book chapters. I also highlight or underline important words and phrases. I use different colors to distinguish between them.
3. Sketch out key points as you read This is probably the most important step, as it allows you to visually digest the information in front of you and make connections between different sections of the book.
Capture key ideas.
Sketch out key ideas with your pen or highlighter. This is a process of distilling the important points from each chapter into a list of bulleted points. As you read through each chapter, highlight or underline anything that seems particularly relevant to your goals and interests. When you’re done reading a book, go back through it and compile all those highlighted sections into one master list of notes. You can use a variety of different symbols, such as arrows and circles, to visually represent the key points. You can also use lines to connect these points together so that you can see how they are related. This step is especially important for books that are heavy on jargon or technical terms, as it helps you capture what is being said in a way that makes sense to you! I often find myself making connections between different sections of the book while reading, and then later drawing out those connections with my mind map so that I can recall main theme instantly.
Make connections One of the best ways to improve your reading comprehension is by making connections between what you read and other pieces of information that you already know. This step helps you better understand the material and how it fits into larger concepts.
Know your why. Why are u reading this book? Why do you care about the topic? What do you want to get out of this book? Having a clear purpose for reading will help you stay focused on what’s important and keep your mind map organized. What do u want to get out of it? Do u want to know the history of this book? Do u want to understand how it fits into a larger context? Do u want to be able to use what you learn from reading this book in future conversations or writings?
Higlight actionable ideas in the book. What are some of the key ideas that you can use in your life? Are there any actionable steps or strategies that u can take away from this book? If so, highlight those sections in different color to help bring them to mind when you need them again.

What is Dual Coding Theory?
Allan Pavio discovered two systems of memory, one for processing visual input and another that deals with verbal stimuli.
Back in 1971, Canadian researcher, Allan Paivio, formulated his dual coding theory. And then spent the next four decades researching it, trying to ‘break it’
The first system is called sensory memory, which holds information for approximately 1/4 to 1/2 second. The second system is called working memory, which can hold up to 4 items at a time and lasts about 20 seconds. These two systems work together to form the dual coding theory. The dual coding theory is based on the premise that these two systems work together to allow us to process information. The theory states that we use both visual and verbal processing systems when learning new material.

When one is activated it will trigger retrieval of the other memory. The more you link these two types of information together, the stronger they will become. This is how we build knowledge and understanding. This is known as a ‘mnemonic’. A mnemonic is a method of remembering things by combining two or more senses.
