An experienced audio visual and sound engineering professional shares over 20 years of industry expertise, project management of multi-million euro installations, and a background in entertainment systems.
Introduce yourself and connect with fellow learners by answering two questions in the unity Q and A section: where you're from and why you're taking this course.
Learn to synchronize music software across apps, operating systems, and devices using Ableton Live, DMX, IAC, and TouchOSC, with hands-on demos and practical synchronization protocols.
Explore how synchronicity appears in 3DAV Part 4: Synchronicity. Understand what synchronicity means in this course module.
Discover how Ableton Live creates, manipulates, and performs audio and MIDI data, with session view and arrangement view, plus basics like routing and MIDI mapping.
Explore how synchronization and integration software bind diverse apps and hardware, from Ableton link and DMX to IAC and OSC, to keep devices in time and in sync.
Explore DMX, the lighting control protocol that transmits data via cables to fixtures, and use the Mac IAC driver to create virtual MIDI buses for inter-app MIDI communication.
Explore how MIDI standardized musical instrument communication across devices, enabling daisy-chained connections, computer integration, lighting control, and Open Sound Control protocols for synchronized performances.
Configure MIDI controllers in Ableton Live by setting inputs and outputs and using the IAC driver to prevent MIDI loops, then map faders and controls to track parameters.
Discover how MIDI feedback creates loops in Ableton Live, identify loops via the IAC driver, and prevent overload by disabling unintended MIDI in/out loops.
Discover Studio MOX, streaming iOS app audio over lightning to USB for high-quality digital sound; set up the Studio MOX server and route inputs in Ableton.
Create and customize TouchOSC templates to send OSC and MIDI messages over Wi-Fi or USB, enabling control of Remix Live and other media software via the TouchOSC Bridge app.
Use audio MIDI setup tool on a Mac to create a network session that streams notes and data between multiple computers over ethernet, keeping music, visuals, and lighting in sync.
Demonstrate how multiple devices and software synchronize in real time using Ableton Link, remix decks, launchpad, and Traktor, all routed through loopback and a mixing desk.
Thank you for purchasing the course; I am here for you. See your creations and apply the knowledge from 3DAV part 4: synchronicity.
3DAV Part 4: Synchronicity
This class is for anyone who:
Makes or performs music
DJ’s
Works in the field of audio engineering, lighting or projection
And who wants to learn:
How to network a variety of applications to produce synchronised outcomes
How to network across multiple machines to synchronise those apps
How to create your own templates in TouchOSC to control said applications wired or wirelessly
What audio protocols are and how they operate
MIDI and MIDI Mapping
Audio routing and synchronisation
How each application is interconnected
In this class we start with the very basics of Ableton and applications like TouchOSC and StudioMux, all the way up to producing synchronised audio, lighting and visuals across multiple applications. I walk you through every step of the process, and explain my logic behind every decision I make. I'll even walk you through a complete demonstration from beginning to end.
The goal of this class is for you to learn how to create co-ordinated outcomes using music technology for use in the home, venue, club or stage.
DAWs:
In this class I'll be using Ableton Live and I've gone to great lengths to make sure this class is useful to everyone, no matter what your experience.
Setting:
I'm best known for working with electronic music and corporate audio visual events, but I've designed this course to be useful to anyone who has interest in the topics discussed.
Topics Covered:
Ableton Live: A Quick Overview
Synchronisaton Apps and Protocols
DMX
Audio routing from iOS devices: StudioMux
