Master AAON rooftop unit controllers using prism software for clear PVC configurations. Explore wiring diagrams, basnet setup with PVCs, and hardware modules for setup and tuning across generations.
Use the Prism repair routine under Help/About to clear registry settings and restore hidden screens without changing configurations. Identify your COM port in Device Manager to properly set up Prism.
Log in to the master controller, create a jobsite to save discovered units, identify serial port, select a comlink or uspi, use a single loop, and save the search results.
Navigate the PRISM main screen to read sensor values, manage occupancy overrides, and configure schedules and holidays, including forcing modes and saving or restoring settings.
Explore the details viewer to monitor and control AAON rooftop unit inputs and outputs, view sensor groups, occupancy modes, and temporary relays and analog outputs for troubleshooting and tuning.
Explore the trend logs menu to load and export five logs from the controller, viewing minute-to-hour data for diagnosing heating and cooling performance.
Master the essential setpoints and configuration options for heating and cooling, focusing on leaving air temperature, mode enables, and deadband across space, supply, and outside air sensors.
Discover hood on operations that temporarily converts a rooftop unit into a make-up unit using center sensor. Understand unoccupied offsets, economizer enable setpoints, and lockouts for efficient, comfortable control.
Learn how dehumidification mode uses humidity sensors and dew point to control the evaporator coil, with modulating hot gas reheat and mode options.
Explore how traditional V and single zone V.V. controls use setpoints, fan speed, and space sensors to maintain comfort, enable tempering, and save energy.
Configure air flow sensors and CO2-based economizer control to modulate exhaust and fresh air dampers in a rooftop unit. Understand static pressure, building pressure, deadbands, and basic fan speed adjustments.
Explore the setpoint screen configurations, including safety limits, run times, economizer ramp, defrost timing, and purge delays to optimize rooftop unit staging.
Explore the miscellaneous setpoint screen with push-button override to occupy mode, trend-rate logs, min/max voltages for supply/exhaust fans and economizer, chilled water options, and calibration offsets.
Learn how the relay output screen controls cooling and heating stages, exhaust, economism, and occupied mode, with indicators for alarms and compressor run status.
Configure a unit by setting temperature scales, setpoints, and expansion modules. Note that switching from Fahrenheit to Celsius triggers a reboot, so review all temperature set points.
Review setpoint screen configurations and hvac modes, including supply air, tempering, damper limits, and how sensors drive ventilation and energy-efficient heating and cooling.
Learn the remaining setpoint screen configurations—reset sources, heat options, demystification, economizer, humidity and CO2 controls, and morning warm-up features.
Master the setpoint screen configuration for AAON rooftop units, covering heat pump options, glycol percentages, pressure relief, damper and fan control, and occupied mode for steady building pressure.
Explore how the RSM V module configures VDT compressors, detailing defaults, single vs dual compressors, and the differences for modules A–D.
Explore the RSMD module setpoint screen for Coplin digital scroll compressors, detailing single or dual controls, condenser fan signals, evaporative cooler condenser control, and modulating head pressure control.
Explains how to configure setpoint screen expansion modules in PRISM, including valve types, modulating and on/off stages, stage delays, dual-manifold behavior, and reheats integration.
Navigate the handheld service tool to configure settings, update firmware, and manage AAON rooftop unit WattMaster controls, including time and date, communications, status, master com, schedules, overrides, and alarms.
Learn to operate and program a VFD using the Eskow VDS simulator, calibrating analog 0 to 10 signals and auto mode to control rooftop unit fans.

This course is intended for Commercial HVAC Technicians who work on AAON Units. The lessons in this course will teach you how to master the key concepts below. The course will be updated as required and requested, so please do request additional content when you join this course. Currently the course has 4.5 hours of lectures that will give you critical training to better configure and troubleshoot your AAON units! Find me on my website if you have questions for me!
Key Concepts Currently Covered
Understanding AAON controls options
Connecting to an AAON controller with a laptop with PRISM installed
Configuring and adjusting Setpoints of Wattmaster controllers
Configuring Sub-Modules such as Modgas boards and Reheat boards
Setting up BACnet on VCBX & VCCX controllers
Navigating and Adjusting Yaskawa VFD settings (Z1000, J1000)
Update(s)
Handheld Service Tool Navigation (Jan 22 2020)
Once you have completed this course you will have a very good understanding of Wattmaster configurations and setpoints and it will allow you to more quickly troubleshoot your AAON units that have onboard controls. Additionally, Yaskawa VFD's can be challenging to understand how to adjust them at first. I show you how, and once you understand the navigation, it is incredibly easy to program them yourselves!
With 10 years of experience working on AAON controllers, I will be able to give you the foundation to properly set up most Wattmaster controllers in minutes.
