Instructor
I started playing the guitar at 13, and by the age of 16 I was performing in local bands in his local area of Bolton and Manchester. Always hungry to learn and expand my musical knowledge I studied under some of the foremost teachers at the time.
I spent the 80’s honing not only my performance and technical skills but also my teaching abilities.
As well as performing in various rock bands I started teaching in various schools and academies including Kent County Schools where I was employed as their first contemporary music instructor for the guitar.
In the late 80’s I relocated to London, working in recording studios recording and doing session work during the daytime and playing live in the numerous bar and clubs in the evenings. I also set up my own private teaching company. As my experience working in studios grew I began to record music for advertising and marketing companies, and small radio stations. As well as my teaching role I worked as a session musician recording music for record companies including Virgin Records and Acid Jazz.
In the 90’s I made the bold step of moving to the Florida. Where I focused on teaching, working privately and also in schools in the Orlando region. During that time, I was lucky to meet some great musicians that encouraged me to continue my own personal studies and grow my musical knowledge.
As one who loves to travel and see new places I decided that my next stop would be Panama. A great place to learn Jazz and amazing Latin Rhythm. I really enjoyed my time down there and worked some wonderful bars and clubs. It felt like everyone wanted to learn to play the guitar, young and old.
Next stop was Dubai, I did say I liked to travel. Here I focused 100% on teaching and also my own personal music education, taking as many courses as I could possibly fit in.
I now have a Licentiate Degree in Instrumental teaching from Trinity College London, this is normally a 4 year course but I graduated after only 2 years.
It was actually during my time in Panama that I started offering Skype Guitar lessons to students, now I seem to spend more time in front of a computer than I do in the classroom. I love teaching and new technology means I can bring new and interesting ideas to my lessons.
