For this reason we think a course like this is necessary.This course explains in a very easy way the definition of epilepsy. It also reviews the classification and terminology used to describe all seizure types. This is the first step to start a good management of patients with epilepsy!
We will review the epilepsy definition with case examples and will learn how to apply it in different scenarios. You will learn how to describe seizures properly and how to make the difference between focal and generalised seizures with many video examples. We will show you the symptoms that present focal seizures from each lobe. Thus, you will be able to identify which part of the brain each focal seizure comes from.
You will also learn the features of epilepsy in newborns, with many real cases. Finally, we will talk about the ILAE scheme of work and how to approach a patient with epilepsy, with the recommended workup in each epilepsy type.
We use short and didactic lessons and provide bibliography to review the concepts explained in the lessons. This is a good introductory course to review the basics of epilepsy and the nomenclature used by neurologists. It does not include the study of treatments for epilepsy or the study of epileptic syndromes, but is the first step to understand this complex disease.
