Samantha Kettle is a clinical psychologist specializing in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her perspective is that being a parent is one of life’s greatest gifts, but comes with a lot of challenges and stresses. As a parent of two children herself, she was motivated to work on a parenting course to tie together what she's learned professionally and as a mother. Most people want to do the ‘right’ thing and be ‘normal’, but no such state exists and wellness looks different to everyone. Dr. Kettle assists people to live in the current moment and use their values to guide them toward the life they want. Even when people know the road they want to take, they can struggle putting it into action. This is true in her life, as she continues to find her way professionally and at home with her husband and two children.
Eric Mayhew is a mental health counselor who worked for over 15 years with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. More recently, he transitioned to being a stay at home dad. Focusing on values, communication, and self-care transformed his own perspective, developed insight, and led to a more meaningful life. As he focused on parenting his own children and dealt with many of the unique challenges parenting affords, he was humbled by the difficulties of enacting many of the principles he helped people learn over the years. Having his own children and being a committed parent has given him a deeper appreciation for how the knowledge pertaining to clinical psychology can be adapted to make parenting more effective and meaningful. Through A Joyful Parenthood Eric hopes to support other parents on their unique path to knowledge, insight, and authenticity.
