This course provides a practical and structured understanding of 5G RAN KPIs for both NSA and SA networks, supported by an end-to-end performance view.
The course goes beyond simply explaining KPI formulas. It shows where each KPI is measured, which counters are used, how the related call flows work, what the common failure causes are, and which parameters, timers, or features can be used to improve network performance.
You will study the main 5G RAN performance areas, including:
KPI fundamentals and 3GPP measurement concepts
Accessibility KPIs such as EN-DC setup, RACH, RRC setup, NG signalling, and QoS flow setup
Retainability and drop-rate analysis for 5G NSA and SA
Mobility KPIs, including PSCell change, Xn/NG handover, and inter-RAT handover performance
Traffic, active users, connected users, and spectral efficiency
PRB utilization, MCS, CQI, MIMO rank, PDCCH, PUCCH, paging, and capacity indicators
User and cell throughput, peak-throughput calculation, and end-to-end throughput limitations
Latency, jitter, packet delay, and end-to-end latency optimization
MAC, RLC, and PDCP retransmissions, packet loss, and reliability analysis
Practical troubleshooting indicators such as PHR, PUSCH SINR, PUCCH SINR, SRS SINR, RSRP, and Timing Advance
The course combines 3GPP references, practical network counters, KPI formulas, measurement points, parameter explanations, failure scenarios, optimization use cases, and real performance examples.
It is designed primarily for RAN optimization and performance engineers, RF and drive-test engineers, NOC and operations teams, solution architects, telecom consultants, and engineering managers. It is also suitable for telecom AI/ML engineers and data scientists who want to strengthen their RAN domain knowledge for network analytics and automation.
Important: This is a professional, practice-oriented course rather than an entry-level introduction to telecommunications. It is best suited to learners who already have some practical exposure to mobile networks or are currently working in the telecom industry. It is not primarily intended for university students or fresh graduates who have not yet gained practical telecom/network experience.
By the end of the course, you will be able to interpret 5G RAN KPIs, connect them to call flows and protocol layers, identify likely root causes, and select practical optimization actions while understanding their expected benefits and trade-offs.
Disclaimer
All KPI values, charts, trends, and network scenarios presented in this course are simulated examples developed based on practical engineering experience. Actual KPI values and observed behavior may vary significantly from one network to another depending on configuration, environment, traffic conditions, vendor implementation, and network design. Therefore, the exact figures or trends shown in the course should not be expected to appear identically in every network. The main objective is to demonstrate the underlying technical concepts, relationships, and troubleshooting logic.
