Course content

1 section10 lectures3h 43m total length
  • 5G Non Standalone (NSA) Vs Standalone (SA) Core Understanding17:32

Compare non-standalone and standalone 5g core: NSA adds nr to epc core with signaling through enodeb and mme; SA uses a cloud-native core with direct nr signaling and end-to-end slicing.

  • 5G Service Based Architecture Concepts12:56

Explore how 5G service-based architecture uses producers and consumers, NRF service registration and discovery, and subscription/notification to share subscriber data across network functions.

  • 5G Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) concepts18:47
  • Introduction of 5G Services Produced by AMF31:46

Explore how the 5G core uses a service-based architecture with the AMF as producer, exposing services like nymph communication, nymph event exposure, nymph md, and nymph location for inter-NF interactions.

  • 5G Session Management Function (SMF) Concepts18:23

Learn how the session management function (smf) maintains subscriber sessions, handles pdu establishment, allocates ips, selects upf, and enforces pcf policy and CHF quotas to enable 5g service access.

  • Introduction of 5G Services Produced by SMF14:46

Explore how SMF, as a producer in the 5g core service-based architecture, exposes the PDU session service and the SMF event exposure to AMF, PCF, and NRF.

  • 5G User Registration Flow and Concepts22:59

Explore the 5G core user registration flow, detailing registration requests, AMF selection, USSF authentication via NRF, UDM/SDM/SMF provisioning, PCF policy retrieval, and registration accept to complete onboarding.

  • 5G PDU Session Establishment Flow and Concepts26:18

Explore the end-to-end 5G PDU session establishment flow, including AMF-SMF coordination via NRF, UPF selection, SME policy exchanges with UDM and PCF, and N1/N2 transfers.

  • 5G SMF and UPF Interaction Over PFCP Protocol40:37

Explore how 5G SMF and UPF coordinate via PFCP, detailing PDR, FAR, QFI, MBR, PDI, and session lifecycle from establishment to modification, activation, and release.

  • User Mobility (IRAT) Concept and Flow Between 5G and EPC network19:55

Explain the end-to-end 5g to 4g handover flow. Cover the roles of gnodeb, emf, amf, smf, upf, and enodeb, and the key steps like context retrieval and tunnel setup.

Requirements

  • Participants need to have basic understanding of Telecom network concepts
