Learn to build a high poly stoplight by using instances, pivot points, and floating geometry to duplicate parts while blocking in major shapes and considering silhouette for games.
Learn to align and instance bolts around a top cap in 3ds Max using the working pivot, align tool, and mirror, and understand copies versus instances.
Apply edge control to curved object's corners by selecting and connecting edges, add top and bottom edges, then tighten corners with pinch tool to preserve silhouette during turbo smooth.
Master high poly bolt modeling in 3ds max, turning a six-sided allen wrench bolt from a 12-sided cylinder using extrudes, edge control, chamfers, and turbo smooth.
Group the stoplight geometry, rotate the instance 90 degrees to the left for the final silhouette, and apply edge control with turbo's smooth modifier in 3ds Max.
In this video we will take an introductory look at High Poly modeling. We'll start with the basics of edge control, modifiers, hotkeys, and workflow improvements. Then, we will apply these techniques as we tackle a high poly stoplight prop.
