Let’s talk about what we’re going to do!
Very soon you’ll be creating your first interior design, but before that you need to get used to 3Ds Max ?
HOMEWORK - create various objects paying attention to their properties.
We’ll learn to spin around the objects in viewpoint
We're going to understand what these 4 windows do!
It would be great to learn moving and rotating objects.
Careful with scaling! Better avoid it at the beginning because after scaling you can’t trust the sizes of the object.
Note: we move and rotate only with the arrows of the axis!
There are settings you need to adjust once and forever!
ATTENTION!
If you work with 3Ds Max, then you’ll be rendering at night.
And if you have an automatic sleep mode set then you’ll be disappointed.
Google how to turn off automatic sleep mode on your PC!
In this lesson you will learn that when saving you’ll save only the scene without textures.
Also you’ll learn how to save everything with textures in one archive.
We’ll tell you that 3Ds Max is able to swap 3D models with other programs through the import/export feature.
C’mon, just a little more and we’ll be creating an interior!
But first we have to learn to copy objects, and make sure your hands are not shaking and you’re draggin only the arrows.
Note: It’s super important to copy all similar objects in one instance.
How to seamlessly create a tetris?
NOTE: You should use Snaps!
PS: it’s important to toggle Snaps off every time you don’t use it! Otherwise it will distrub you!
In this lesson we’re going to talk about the main logics of modeling in 3ds max
Repeat the steps!
Also, you’ll learn to use other modifiers for unique tasks. Objects can be blown up, transformed into fabric, softened, etc. Modeling for smoothing is a separate huge world where you can create whatever you want. You will learn all during the advanced course after “IKEA”
But before that let’s take care of the basics :)
Edit Poly is the most powerful modeling tool in 3Ds Max.
But there are things that may frighten you at first. But we go straight to scary places turning them into routine!)))
Just get hurt at the very beginning to be ready for everything.
There’s an Attach button in Edit Poly which allows attaching other objects and editing them together!
Like the teapot - because it consists of several independent parts but it is one object.
Just be aware such things are possible.
And it is not grouping!
I am especially proud of this lesson because it reveals the most important tools for modeling in Edit Poly as quickly as possible.
Yoohoo! At least we’re starting our graduation work!!!
Now let’s model a kitchen!
A very important lesson: you are going to work based on blueprints almost all the time.
ATTENTION!
The sizes on a blueprint are in millimeters. If you work in centimeters you should reduce the values 10 times. For example, 1180mm is 118cm.
We’re starting to work in a scene where you’ll have a full project of an IKEA interior.
Save your result anywhere you like and place the texture with the blueprint close to that path so you don’t lose it.
You should know how to draw lines because it’s better to make walls out of lines!
We’ll learn to draw lines!
Draw the inner and outer room perimeters from the top view, connect lines into one object, and extrude the walls; then create window openings and doors with precise sizes.
Any interior will not be completed without a floor and a ceiling.
If you are already an experienced 3D worker, then start from here. The things that experienced people often don’t know to begin from this lesson.
And a ceiling - we will do special manipulations with it, in order to make this convenient and even assign gray material!
We freeze it and make «Display as box» in «Object properties».
How to defrost it later?
Under the right button, there is «Unfreeze all».
If you've attended the previous lessons, just keep working on that scene.
Here is the scene file, if you are already an experienced 3D worker and you decided to skip past steps. Remember that all models and their textures will need to be kept next to the scene file in the future.
To start rendering you need to put the angle where something will be visible from.
Oh, now we’re going to get our first render!
Professionals usually set up the light like this, in gray material.
From this point, when we already have the light, it's much nicer to continue because you already have a render of the apartment before a renovation.
Let's assign our first materials!
They are just library materials, but it's important to get as it’s said: «taste of the first blood», look and assign good materials.
Indeed, professionals use these libraries very often.
We will learn how to create our own materials a little bit later.
PS: let me remind you that there is much more choice of good materials in the 3D Hamster library, I recommend it.
Portals for boosting the render
ATTENTION!
Portals are not needed starting with Corona Renderer 6, everything is automatically and this lesson can be skipped.
Let's do it!
We still have to work with this scene, it's a sin not to speed up the rendering.
Transferring our objects
Now for the first time, we will transfer models to the scene. Not someone’s models, but our own!
We will assign the materials in the next lessons.
Materials for our objects
Now we’re going to learn how to set up materials on our own models!
PS: don't be confused that the balls are gray, not colored.
The video says how to make all the balls with Corona - using Corona Converter.
Corona Converter is called with the right mouse button or in the corona menu.
There is a Reset MatEdit to CoronaMtls button. It will make all the corona balls.
Here we list the most fundamental concepts of materials.
After this lesson, you will learn how to create ordinary materials; metals and glass.
We will learn how to assign textures to parameters in the next lesson.
The library parquet is good, but can you set up the material from scratch yourself?)))
In general, we wanted to leave this lesson for an advanced course but decided to lift the veil on how many nuances there will be in commercial practice.
Usually, a professional has no materials, no texture without color correction.
Have some practice, it is necessary for you not to have wild colors in your graduate work, so you can leave the texture of the wood for a final render)
Attention! Don’t lower the diffuse level parameter too much, that is learned at the beginning of the lesson - this doesn’t give a very high-quality darkening of the texture, because it is just mixing with black (details and shade are lost). You should use other methods for deep dark that we talked about in the main course.
If you go in color correction, then be very careful, don’t spoil the color.
Library materials are put a little differently than the materials you make yourself.
The Real World Map Size texturing type works here. Write it down!!!
Let's study it.
Let's choose the color of the walls more subtly.
We used the library material before.
I recommend lowering Bump value in the material to 0.1 in order not to forget later. But something more about this will be later.
You will learn how to make more complex materials in an advanced course. You can add graffiti, destruction, scuffing effects, realness with the help of additional maps and materials - all this practice is at the next stage of the training!
How to live without windows and doors?)))
And now we will insert the main furniture!
We are at the stage when we want to get the first results, to approve the setting of the light. But without furniture and, of course, lamps, it will not work)
We posted the models on the 29th lesson.
When you quickly see the results you have the strength to continue working.
Usually, I try to fill the scene with the main volumes and, as soon as possible, I try to adjust the light, and the post-processing of the render. I try to put the light when there is a minimum of models in the scene because the rendering will go more slowly with some decoration.
Being able to set appealing angles is extremely important!
A couple of recommendations:
— The camera should be set just above the visible surface.
— It is better to set the camera further and make a narrow viewing angle.
A good angle is the key to a good work!
Pay great attention to it.
Within the advanced course we even use scripts to display the golden ratio to set the most appealing frames.
Set the camera at about 110 cm with automatic vertical tilt, center the sofa, and adjust the viewing angle to 37–39 degrees for proper frame proportions.
All materials that actively interact with light require your attention!
Therefore, it’s important to adjust the materials of the frames and lampshades first, and only after that we’ll be able to find the ideal lighting.
We’re starting making magic :)
Run Lightmix right after the setup!
If you copy the lamp after the Lightmix installation, you’ll need to fix its settings again by clicking Setup Lightmix in F10 window.
There’re great postproduction tools in Corona. Today we’ll work with them :) You may feel confused about your image being blur and not as appealing as it was said in the advertisement.
That is, in order to get appealing work, it’s essential to do appealing postproduction!
Fixing overexposed parts, adjusting sharpening, and adding shiners make your image priceless!
Now we’re going to add all the decorations we have!
We’re in the home stretch, that’s great!
You may want to re-adjust the lighting in Light Mix after adding curtains. Don't forget to bake it for a faster rendering!
A special working stage starts after transferring our models.
We’ll need to decide on everything we dislike in the image.
We may not like the furnishing design, decorations, incorrect materials, or even a single kettle lid.
The task is to find such imperfections and fix them.
I believe that every small detail should have sense and play its own role in the composition.
Though, to “break the rules” and still have a beautiful picture we need to learn and understand them.
Thus, let’s look at good renders.
The main similarity between them is the fact that artificial light is warm, and we can actually see it.
It means that the sofa shape is perfectly observable due to the sunlight and the lamp light.
The light falls on the table highlighting it in the overall view and showing its size.
This render doesn’t feel too cold.
Let’s try to adjust the render beautifully without LUTs at first. I’d even remove curves.
Why? – There are too many LUTs so your success would be like winning in a roulette game.
Learn how to make a cool image without LUTs and only after that use them as icing on the cake.
Today we’re leaving render for the night!
Before that, it’s essential to make sure that you like the image! After rendering you won’t be able to move models and adjust materials (though, during advanced courses, we teach you even this kind of magic)))
Also, there’re some rituals before final rendering such as uploading render passes.
Let’s set a goal to make this cold interior warmer through postproduction and light adjustments!Warm sun and lamps save this interior from the Night King of cold)
How do we stop and save render and apply final corrections in high resolution? Background in windows will be black – it’s fine)

Frequently Asked Questions:
I have never opened 3ds Max, will I succeed?
Intensive from scratch, we start with the installation of programs. It is mastered by 100% of students, even children from the age of 14. After the intensive, you will start learning 3D modeling from scratch and earn money in this niche without additional courses.
I'm already working in 3D, will this course be useful?
Yes, it will be useful. During the course, we pay great attention to the beauty of the pitch and the chips that speed up the work. Look at the level of work. If you want to reach this level, this course is for you.
After finishing the course, will I be able to take my first orders in 3D?
Yes, students take their first orders as soon as they finish this course. You will make 1 template interior and at least 1 unique one to assemble the first portfolio. As a bonus, you get a list of sites where to look for orders and 20 stories of our students' first order. Your skills are objectively enough to cope even with full-fledged orders from designers. The main thing is to avoid urgent, large orders at the beginning.
Is it necessary to have an art education in order to earn money?
Aesthetics cannot be ignored, but it is not necessary to learn this for years. This is your art education. You will get the key techniques of creating beauty and apply them immediately in practice.
How long does it take to start earning with this course from scratch?
The first interior on the course will take about 16 hours (for example, 4 days for 4 hours) From that moment on, students successfully cope with work for money. But if you want to consolidate your skills and strengthen your portfolio, do some more creative work (about 10 more hours). Of course, you can study at your own pace, but I sincerely advise you to take the course as intensively as you can. If you quit halfway, then it will be difficult to remember. But when you finish this intensive, the skills will remain forever.
How long will I get access to the lessons?
Forever.
