Welcome to 20 Moves in 20 Days: Beginning Ballet Barre! I'm so excited to be on this journey with you, and just delighted that you are interested in learning ballet (it's my favorite dance style of all time, but I do love them all!). Consider doing the daily warm-up stretches each time you want to learn a new move, to help prevent injury, increase flexibility, and feel great! I've attached a ballet terminology sheet for you so that you can build your ballet vocabulary, if you'd like. If at any time you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out for support! You can email me at lindseydinneenofficial@gmail.com, or visit my social profiles on Instagram or Facebook (@lindseydinneenofficial). See you in the course!
Use this stretch on a daily basis to get your body moving and be prepared to learn a new move!
Learn the five basic ballet arm positions!
Learn the five basic ballet feet positions!
Practice grand plié and demi plié through four stages, with heels on the ground in second position, maintain stacked alignment, and move continuously across first to fifth positions.
Learn port de bras, including forward, side, and back placements with the long J arm at the barre, while maintaining weight forward, a stacked spine, and safe hip alignment.
Master degagé by brushing the leg off the floor at about 30 degrees with full turnout, then perform a two-in-each-direction sequence (front, side, back, side) to build crisp lines.
Learn elevé, a ballet move that strengthens ankles and balance, with alignment cues and a simple eight-count combo across first to fifth positions, practiced on both sides.
Master petite battement at the barre by isolating the lower leg while the upper leg stays still, moving front to back from the ankle.
Master the développé through positions like coupé, attitude, and extension, emphasizing turnout, knee alignment, and a steady hip. Practice a front–side–back sequence to build a clean line.
Perform a grand battement with an upright torso, brush and close from front to back, keeping hips steady. Finish with a Su Su bonus move for balance.
Lindsey Deneen congratulates learners on completing the course, celebrates stepping out of the comfort zone, and invites you to explore growth mindset journals and online courses to empower success.
