Description
One of the first and most immediately impactful strategies we use to sleep well is to improve our bedroom. Often people are shocked by how much a negative impact their bedroom has on their sleep. This is because during sleep we’re not entirely unresponsive to the environment, but instead still somewhat connected. For this reason, it’s important to optimize your bedroom, so it completely supports restful sleep, rather than being a challenge to overcome. An ideal bedroom is how to increase deep sleep naturally.
In this step-by-step class you will learn all the elements that make for an ideal sleep space and good nights. These evidence-based recommendations are founded on the best, current, sleep science to help you get the sleep you need.
First off, you’ll do a comprehensive assessment of your bedroom. Then we’ll go through each component of a sleep-healthy space, discussing both the physiology and psychology of sleep that can be impacted by that component. Next, you’ll learn actionable strategies to improve each factor. An example is the light level – did you know there is a formal medical guideline for how dark your bedroom should be? Not only that, but we’ll teach you easy ways to measure the light level so you can set it just right. You’ll also learn sounds to help you sleep.
After going through the 10+ factors necessary to make your bedroom an ideal place to have a great night, you will implement these recommendations and begin to see improvement in your sleep. Once you’ve gained this knowledge and skills, you’ll be able to quickly make any bedroom more conducive to restful calm sleep, even when traveling!

Who is Dr. Catherine Darley?
Dr. Catherine is the founder of the Naturopathic Sleep Medicine field. Naturopathic Sleep Medicine brings together the understanding of circadian rhythms, sleep medicine and the healing power of nature to improve sleep and thereby improve whole health. She has spent her entire career helping people of all ages with sleep complaints.
What’s her story?
Dr. Catherine found her passion for sleep medicine in college, and channeled that into her student research projects – one on how smells trigger memories that can be incorporated into dreams, and the second on teen sleep and cognitive performance while on different school schedules. This led to a job at the Bradley / Brown Sleep and Chronobiology Research Lab. While there, Dr. Catherine had the epiphany that because sleep is a natural, fundamental physiologic function, it makes sense to use natural methods to promote it, rather than pharmaceuticals. She attended Bastyr University with the intention of becoming the first Naturopathic Sleep Expert. In 2003 she founded The Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine, treating patients from 1 to 101 years old. Her passion for Natural Sleep Medicine is still going strong, and she’s honored to use it in service of her patients.
What’s her focus now?
Over the years working with patients, Dr. Catherine realized that there are principles of sleep and circadian health that haven’t been shared widely with the public. Her mission now is to spread this information in a clear and accessible way, so people have the sleep skills they need to truly thrive and be their best self. Dr. Catherine focuses on providing this essential information in a variety of formats:
· bite-size info on social media, youtube, and substack (@skilledsleeper)
· courses here on Udemy which focus on specific components of a Sleep Healthy Lifestyle, with step-by-step action plans
· comprehensive online programs to rebuild your sleep, which can be found at Skilled Sleeper.
