Description

The purpose of this course is to help those students in understanding AS Level Chemistry and is especially designed for those students preparing for International Cambridge AS Level Chemistry Examinations.

The code this course follows is 9701.

This course will follow the Cambridge International AS Level syllabus, In this course, everything will be explained in detail step by step, so students can easily understand about the first part of the AS syllabus that is Atoms, molecules and stoichiometry.

This course will consist of the following learning outcomes:

1.1 Relative masses of atoms and molecules- relative masses are divided into four categories that are relative atomic mass, relative molecular mass, relative isotopic mass, relative formula mass.

1.2 The mole and the Avogadro constant- definition of the mole and the equation of the mole with correlation with mass will be explained.

1.3 The determination of relative atomic masses,(Ar)-

a) To measure the mass of each isotope present in an element that is mass spectrometer will be explained

b) Calculate the relative atomic mass of an element given the relative abundance of its isotopes, or its mass spectrum- some examples will be explained to how to find the relative atomic mass given you have the mass of the isotope and relative percentage isotopic abundance of each isotope.

1.4 The calculation of empirical and molecular formulae- definition of empirical and molecular formulae will be explained. Calculations where empirical formula can calculated will be explained to detail, so students can get the idea at what type of questions are usually asked in the examination.

1.5 Reacting masses and volumes of solutions and gases- Equations to calculate number of moles in gas and in a liquid will be explained.
