This course is suitable for individuals who are new to computers as well as those who have been using the computer for some time. There are no prerequisites necessary before taking this course.
Individuals will learn to recognize when their computer may be running slowly, know which tools to use to diagnose and repair potential problems.
Computer safety can be intimidating but with a few simple steps it can be manageable. We will talk about specific things that you can do, when using things like email or shopping online to protect yourself and your information.
Upon completion of this course individuals will have a clear and basic understanding of the strategies and tools needed to keep their computer is running smoothly as well as an increased awareness of how to protect themselves when online.
Handouts will be provided for you to help you with the maintenance and security topics discussed in this class, which can be kept near your computer for later reference.

This lesson explains what the recycle bin is,how and when to use it. After competing this lesson students will be able to explain the purpose of the recycle bin and will be able to use it effectively.
The disk cleanup tool is used to remove unnecessary files from your Windows operating system. These files can come from many places, and can slow your system down. Upon completing this lesson students will know when to use the disk cleanup tool, they will know how to use the disk cleanup tool to keep their computer running smoothly.
Disk defragmentation is the tool used to keep the information on your hard drive organized properly for efficient operation of the hard drive itself. As you add and remove files and programs from your hard drive the information become scattered with blank space between files and programs.
This means the hard drive has to work harder to find the information you want to work with, the defragmentation tool reorganizes your hard drive so that information is together and empty space is at the end of the hard drive, allowing your hard drive to work more efficiently for you.
Upon completion of this lesson students will be confident and comfortable using the disk defragmentation tool.
Backing up your computer can be daunting and difficult, during this lesson we will talk about several of the key questions involved in the backup process. Topics include; what to backup, how often to backup, what is the best method for me to use one backing up.
Upon completing this lesson students will understand key components involved in the backup process and be able to develop and implement their own backup process suited to their needs.
