Learn essential tools and techniques for professional rigging in anime studio and Maho. Complete beginner to intermediate training with step-by-step guidance to create rigs for yourself and clients.
Depending on what version of Moho/ Anime Studio you are using, the keyboard shortcuts may be a little different. So to remove any confusion of which key to use - I have made this handy guide to not only show you the different keyboard shortcuts but to show you the Keyboard Shortcuts I always use in my workflow.
I highly recommend memorizing each one so that it becomes muscle memory to make design, rigging, and animation quick and efficient.
Best regards,
McCoy Buck
Explore the bone strength tool in Moho to control how much each bone influences image layers, enabling precise warping and improved animation of rigged characters.
Select the offset bone tool to show why it’s an old, unused feature in anime studio 9 and above, and how it reassembled a character after splitting for frame-one animation.
Sketch bones lets you draw paths on a bone layer, enabling tails, scarves, and other appendages to animate with overlapping action in Anime Studio Pro 11.2 and Moho Pro 12.
Use the transform bone tool to resize, rotate, and translate bones with on-bone nodes. Adjust bones to the arm stroke by moving parent and child bones for clean rigging.
Learn how to bind a bone to a layer in Moho, using layer binding to move a head group via a root bone and parent-child relationships for cohesive animation.
Explore flexi binding in Moho Pro 12, binding image layers to bones for flexible rigs, using bone strength, binding each layer, and keyboard shortcuts to speed up rigging.
Explore point binding in Moho to rig a leg, creating bone layers with a root/pin bone and leg, lower leg, and foot, then bind points for precise control.
Master angle constraints in Moho to limit bone rotation and prevent distortion, using negative 70 to 70. Apply to arms and legs with bone constraints to prevent hyperextension.
Set up an independent angle for the feet by selecting non-moving bones, applying bone constraints, and testing with the manipulate console in Moho Anime Studio Pro.
Learn how to use ignored by inverse kinematics with target bones in moho pro 12 to control tails, spikes, and limbs, ensuring inverse kinematics chains behave as intended.
Explore the Arc IK solver in anime studio 10 moho 12, learn to set up bone groups, create thighbone and shinbone, and add target bones to maintain limb arcs.
Master squash and stretch scaling in Moho Pro 12 by binding layers to bones, animating with keyframes, and preserving ball volume while squashing and stretching.
Explore bone dynamics in Moho with torque, spring, and damping forces; adjust constraints to shape ear movement and learn how parent bone motion drives the rig.
Apply bone dynamics in Moho and Anime Studio to a character with no brain dynamics, testing torque, spring, and damping in real time to achieve overlapping action.
Learn to create control bones that drive other bones, using pupil bones linked to the head, and master bone constraints for position, angle, and scale to animate eyes and expressions.
Release points detach the selected points from bound bones, letting you reset rigging. Observe bone coloration to see which points are bound, and ensure you work on the same layer.
Learn how to release bones bound to layers by selecting a layer and using the release layer command, unbinding bones and freeing the head and other bound assets.
Explore using all bones for flexi-binding in Moho and Anime Studio, why this binds a layer to every bone, and note Moho Pro 12 features with older version workarounds.
Master hiding and showing shy bone selections, use show all bones to bring back hidden bones, and toggle show curves to keep a clean rigging and animation workflow.
Convert a bone into a smart bone dial, name it, set min and max angles and duration, and enable separate positive and negative angles for open and close mouth.
Master smart bone actions in Moho to fix leg pinches with inverse kinematics on the action timeline. Learn to create actions on the bone layer and test with target bones.
Explore smart warp in moho pro 12, a feature that uses smart bones and tudy meshes to warp a single image, enabling head and hand turns.
Connect the left arm mesh to the correct layer, test the rig on frame 1, and set up a smart warp action to bend the fingers.
Master rigging a smart warp action in Moho and Anime Studio by cleaning keyframes, building finger point groups, and fine-tuning in-between frames for smooth bending.
Refine shape ordering for proper smart warp in Moho and Anime Studio by adjusting bone and mesh warp layers to align finger shapes and knuckles.
Import a Photoshop PSD character into Moho and Anime Studio, preserve layers and group folders, choose import options, convert to bones, and prep for rigging.
Create and place bones on the character, including root bone on the bone layer, chest, neck, head, arms, legs, and tail. Set up target bones and pivot points for binding.
Apply the flexi binding method to a complete rig in Moho & Anime Studio, binding head, eyes, jaw, neck, arms, legs, and tail, then adjust bone strength and constraints.
Test and tweak rigs by refining flexi bindings, setting bone and angle constraints for the head and mouth, and ensuring proper binding and squash and stretch effects.
Learn to add smart bones and smart warp to arm rigs by creating a left arm warp layer, binding bones, and adjusting points for smooth deformation across frames.

Complete Rigging Course: Moho & Anime Studio
==========================================================
Stop wasting time trying to figure this stuff out ON YOUR OWN!!!
I have been there and done that. You want to know how long it took me? 3 Years.
Learn how rigging and binding works in 1-2 hours. That's it. Trust me.
The rest is practice and application.
I have broken down the tools, binding and their methods, and how to rig as clearly as I possibly could. In fact, my wife, who has no experience in Moho what so ever, was my first student. She was able to understand perfectly clear everything that I was teaching. If she didn't, I would go back and re record the whole lecture.
See what my students say:
Take what you learn, apply it, and start doing what you really want to do, ANIMATION
========================
What is this course about?
========================
This course is for those who have created a character in Anime Studio/ Moho or any other drawing software and want to take it to the next level by rigging it. Take your character design and give it a professional rig using the techniques and tools taught here.
Rigging for those who do not understand the tools and how to use them in Anime Studio/Moho can be a struggle. If you however do have some knowledge of rigging we will take you to the next level and teach you all you can to unlock the potential of your rig. Anime Studio/ Moho makes it as easy as humanly possible to rig your character. The rigging tools are simple and unlike anything else out there. Once you master their tools, it's a matter of playing it smart and tweaking a couple things here and there to give yourself a ready to animate rig. IT IS THAT SIMPLE.
=======================
What material is included?
=======================
This course like my others is a no fluff, straight to the core, course. In it I dive right in to actually using the tools Anime Studio/Moho offers to rig our characters. Each character I rig is free for you to use and already included in Moho 12. This course will cover everything from Anime Studio 9.5 to Moho 12.
=======================
Why take this course?
=======================
In this course I will walk you through step-by-step how to rig and organize a character ready for animation. These lectures are gold for those who have had trouble in the past with their 2D rig but even more so as we continue to update, these lectures will give you the experience in character rigging you have been missing!
=======================
Is this course right for me?
=======================
This course might not be right for you if you are already a well equipped Animator with a full knowledge of rigging. But even if you are comfortable at rigging you can still learn how we make ready to animate characters that utilize Anime Studio/ Moho to its full extent.
I hope you will join us in the ever increasing world of character rigging!
