Welcome to my Six Week Strumming & Rhythm Guitar Course, before we start playing and learning some awesome strumming patterns, we must warm up first. This might seem boring, but actually I have some crucial tips and exercises inside this first lesson 1.
Lesson #2 kick starts with our first strumming pattern together, the strumming pattern is relatively easy however with some addition exercises to coincide with the lesson, this will help you to making the right direction in strumming. We also cover additional exercises which help build up our strumming patterns to make it easier for you to learn and play your instrument as a beginner strummer.
In Lesson 3 we focus on your chord changes by applying two new chords in our exercise, this is purposely done so you are forced to focus on your chords and not your strumming. This exercise is crucial in your development because the key to strumming is not to think about it, but to let yourself naturally strum in a rhythm timed sequence while having fun and gaining confidence.
In this Lesson we cover a new fantastic strumming pattern which has been used very commonly in most popular music/ songs over the last 7 decades of music. We cover a series of exercises to building you into this strumming pattern, starting from slow, and gradually working you to a nicer high tempo. We also use a nice set of easy chords together so you can concentrate more on your strumming.
This is our final lesson together in Section 1, and we focus on a four chords transition exercise, which can be tricky however with some really fun exercises in this lesson you will notice a huge change in your strumming, rhythm, timing and chord transitions. This lesson is challenging but it nicely sets up what you will learn in Section 2.
Section 2 really throws you into the deep end with strumming, but you'll love the challenge trust me. Your full concentration is needed as we kick start straight after from Section 1. In this lesson we cover quick tempo strumming with a set of four chords, I also show you crucial tips in chord transition during a fast high tempo strum. We also cover a very important exercise, where we jam together and you must play along with me at the same pace and timing, without any further instruction from (no counting or helping you out on your timing).
In Lesson 2 we start with a quick tempo warm up lesson, I also cover crucial tips on that vital chord transition while strumming. We also go through a chord transition exercise to make your strumming feel easier for you, this is vital to know.
We also focus on the up stroke chord change which you will learn and master. And also in the second half of the lesson you will learn 'Ghost' strumming', we end the lesson with additional exercises in how you can make good progress for your ghost strums.
In Lesson 3 I teach you a new strumming pattern which is a three beat pattern. At first this will feel strange and challenging, but with the exercises I teach inside this lesson, you will learn this pattern quickly and start to enjoy playing this type of sequence.
You will also be applying two different chord transitions using the same pattern, and of course we go through additional exercises too. Near the end of the lesson we break up the strumming pattern with two chords in the beat of three - Sounds confusing, it will all come together as one piece you'll see.
This lesson is a hard lesson, but obviously not impossible and with enough practice going over the lesson a few times you will nail the patterns and the high tempos.
Lesson 4 we learn a very crucial and really enjoyable NEW strumming pattern, you will learn how to apply two different strumming patterns across one sequence of four chords transition. When you master this you will see big improvements in your strumming and chord transition changes.
Lesson 5 we cover the final step in my Three Step Formula, and step #3 is the all important 'Strumming Pattern Breakdown'. You will learn how to breakdown any strumming pattern from any of your favorite songs, and you will learn more in-depth training on how to nail rhythm, timing and chord transitions all combined together as one whole skill set.
Part 2 Lesson 5 - we cover the final step in my Three Step Formula, and step #3 is the all important 'Strumming Pattern Breakdown'. You will learn how to breakdown any strumming pattern from any of your favorite songs, and you will learn more in-depth training on how to nail rhythm, timing and chord transitions all combined together as one whole skill set.
We kick start lesson 1 in Section 3 with a set of 2/2 strumming patterns, you will learn vital skills in this series of strumming patterns and quickly master high tempos with fast chord transitions. I also cover crucial tips for muting strings, tips on chord transitions and a vital tip for when playing certain open chords.
Lesson 2 we start with covering high tempo strumming patterns from the four 2/4 patterns we covered in the previous lesson.
In Part 2 of Lesson 2 we cover some crucial exercises for up strumming.
In the third Lesson in this section you will learn a fantastic intermediate strumming pattern using a two chord sequence, this pattern is one of the most crucial strumming patterns you could learn in your journey to strumming . Master this and the rest of the exercises in Lesson 3 and you will be noticing a big difference in your strumming by the end of this lesson.
Lesson 4 you will learn one of the most important strumming patterns in your whole guitar journey, by mastering this pattern at three different speed tempo's (slow/ med/ fast), you will be stepping into an Intermediate level of strumming. By applying this strumming pattern to other chord sequences this will allow you to really develop further and start playing your instrument at a high level of guitar playing.
In the final lesson of Section 3 we focus on four chords at the Intermediate level, we learn a nice strumming pattern but with a slight twist. We have covered these exercises plus chords and the pattern in previous lessons, but we are going to change things slightly (really good fun).
Lesson 5 is a fun lesson and what you learn is something very crucial for a life time of guitar playing. Lesson 5 has no quiz at the end, instead you have home work, take a look at what that could be inside this lesson!
We kick start Section 4 with Palm Muting, which is an essential skill to learn. Palm muting is a great skill fun to learn, and when applied to a simple strumming patterns and sequence of chords it makes a huge difference to your sound. With palm muting you can change the whole dynamics to a song, and this is exactly what you will learn in Lesson 1.
Lesson 2 we focus on Accents in strumming, you will learn how to apply Accents to your normal strumming patterns which will add different levels and dynamics that makes your rhythm sound expressive and interesting to your standard strumming patterns. Accents may seem an overly simple topic, but I think that a lot of musicians underestimate the creative power of using accents in their playing.
Lesson 3 kick starts with a strumming pattern and palm muting together, and we slowly build on the strumming pattern by adding accents and other types of dynamics to totally change the standard strumming pattern. You will learn how to strum with palm muting and accents together (which is an amazing skill to learn).
You will also learn how to play these skills at different tempos, there are a lot of things going on together here but more importantly you will have fun with it. You will notice there are no questions for this lesson, I want you to concentrate on playing both palm muting and accents together.
Inside Lesson 4 you will learn how to apply different Dynamics to your strumming, and focusing on a fun and important strumming pattern we will cover the differences between normal strumming and then how to add dynamics to your strumming. You will also learn how to apply palm muting and accents from the previous three lessons, and now adding dynamics too, so by the end of Lesson 4 you will be strumming with all these important skills combined into one strumming sequence.
Lesson 5 kick starts new skills with picking and strumming together. We also combine all your skills already learnt in Section 4 together in one whole strumming pattern. There is no quiz for this lesson, instead I need you to master and feel comfortable picking strings and strumming together with chord changes and palm muting, along with rythm & timing in a perfect sequence. Don't worry, this sounds hard but the previous 4 lessons have nicely built you up to this level.
Lesson 1 of Section 5 kick starts with two hard strumming patterns, and although each pattern looks easy enough to play by sound, both patterns have up strums and down strumming that comes into unusual timings which makes the strumming a little harder.
We finish Lesson 1 learning palm mute up strokes, a slightly tricky skill to learn but with the exercises inside this lesson you'll master this technique in not time. No quiz in Lesson 1, I need you to play and repeat these strumming patterns as your home work on your own until you feel confident.
Lesson 2 you will learn how to apply down stroke palm muting and up stroke palm muting in the same strumming patterns, the excises in this lesson cover two different patterns across two bars per chord. The patterns inside this lesson are at a high level of Intermediate skills.
In Lesson 3 you will learn strumming patterns 5/4 and 6/8 patterns, these patterns are basically waltz strumming. The lesson content will show you more!
Lesson 4 you will learn advanced strumming and picking together in one sequence, in this lesson the strumming pattern nicely focuses on picking while you remain in a chord shape, this makes it easier for you to pick and strum at the same time. Master this whole sequence and you will impress anyone you play this strumming and picking to. There is no quiz in this lesson as I would like you to focus on mastering the whole sequence of picking and strumming.
Part 1 of Lesson 5:
Lesson 5 is our final lesson in Section 5, and this is a perfect lesson to wrap up everything you have learnt so far in this Section. Inside this lesson you will learn more on advanced strumming and picking, but you will also learn to add skills such as slides, hammer ons, pull offs along with picking and strumming all combined together. The tempo is slightly faster than in the previous lesson, and we focus on playing in a sequence of an 8 barre pattern.
You will also learn a little about Blues Music and when you master this whole sequence at the tempo we focus on, you will be playing at an advanced guitar technique and strumming.
There is no quiz in this lesson as I would like you to focus on mastering the whole sequence of picking and strumming.
Part 2 of Lesson 5:
In our final Section for my whole strumming course, we kick start section 6 with advanced technique's and skills added to strumming. By adding a high tempo, dynamics, accents and applying to a typical strumming pattern allows you to completely change and alter any strumming pattern. Just adding some technical skills can totally change a simple pattern into an advance strumming sequence. We focus on two different sets of chords in this lesson to make the whole sequence feel like playing a song. No quiz in this lesson as we focus solely on the exercises.
Following on from the last two lessons, we focus again on a verse and a chorus sequence, with one intermediate strumming pattern and one technically difficult advanced pattern, and we combine the two together in a really fun sequence. Inside this lesson we also cover a high tempo strumming pattern which is difficult at first, but with practice building from a slow tempo and gradually working faster, this pattern is fun to play.
Lesson 4 in Section 6 is the last real test in the whole course, there are no holds barred in this lesson. You will learn new skills and areas that we have not yet covered before in this whole course. We start by focusing on power chords, following the same pattern in the previous lessons, but we also bring in a bridge to make this more fun and extend the whole strumming sequence! This is a very fun lesson, changing the strumming in different sequences, and adding new chords and tempos will set you aside from the crowd as an advanced guitarist in strumming.
This is the final lesson in our journey together across the last six modules in strumming & rhythm, in this final lesson we wrap things up and run through the vital 'next step in process, ensurung you keep the level of strumming after this course.
In lesson 2 you will learn a new advanced strumming pattern over four chords in just one sequence. We also run through a quick tempo strumming pattern, and again adding skills such as palm muting in this lesson to show how to turn a strumming sequence to a more advanced level of strumming.
