About this course!
Maybe some of you are not even in the IT industry yet, or maybe some of you are stuck at the bottom in a position you really don’t care for. Maybe you need to prep for your Cisco CCNA exam but just keep getting soo overwhelmed with the amount of material, or maybe your are having a hard time knowing where to begin or, maybe your just having trouble staying on track with your studies. Well, let me tell you something - if you fall into any of these situations.. LOOOK NOOOO FURTHER!
Although this is an Introduction course… guess what!
We are going to be covering many important topics in this course related to Cisco’s curriculum, to get you ready and get that ball rolling! I specifically designed this course so you can see the basics of a lot of the main topics, and have a solid understanding of them. This way, when you dive into my full ccna course, or any of the other awesome instructors ccna courses out there, the foundation is already set. So what do I mean by all of this? It means youll have a clear, basic understanding of all the overwhelming amount of information in the full ccna course, and when you begin your Full CCNA course, you will then only be required to fill in the missing details to have a full understanding and to successfully pass your cisco exams.
So, how am I going to do this?
Well, This course will be comprised of two major components.
First comes Theory – Yes the boring stuff, but - You need to understand some key terms, protocols, and well fundamentals as a whole so you can have a good basic understanding of what is going on, and really to know what the heck networking even is. I promise if you listen to the information I present you, you review the information, study the information… you will be golden. You will have that foundation you need to move forward with the Full CCNA curriculum.
Next, we have Practical – Yes the FUN stuff, like hands on labs! Like most of us out there, a lot of us are hands on learners and we need to physically configure or build something to see how its actually working. Well, this course will be made up of about 2 thirds of labs. You will learn how to install a virtual network simulator, and learn every basic component for switches and routers, and then we will begin configuring them. We will start off building simple labs, and then review all the Theory we learned while building these simple labs at first so all the informtion you learned before this LABS section will make more sense, and you physically see them working together. Once we start getting the basics covered, we will move into more complex labs and really start building some nice labs with many different features. By the end of the practical section, I promise... you will be able to configure a small office, home office Local Area Network, using cisco hardware, and be able to troubleshoot these networks for any network issues.
So, is this course for you? Well, only you can really make that assumption. I will encourage you to consider this course as I said, it will make your life easier when you dive into the Full CCNA curriculum. You wont spend so much time trying to retain so much information at once. This course, we keep the material to the basics and key points so it makes sense. Yes you will have to study and put a little work in on your end, but if you work with the material and tools I give you, you will be set!

In this lecture, you will learn the about the things you need to successfully make it through this course!
In this lecture, we will go over the major topics in which you can expect to learn about in this course. This course is designed for anyone thats interested in learning the basic fundamentals of networking and learning how networks communicate together by theoretically and physically learning the topics in labs. Students at the end of this course, if they study, should be able to speak about these topics in simple terms, and configure basic switching and routing functions on cisco devices.
This lecture we explain what networking is, the types of networks we have, and show an overall image of everything so students have that initial image painted in their minds from the beginning of what we will be creating, and learn everything there will be needed to know to explain to others what is going on in our labs.
In this lecture students can expect to learn the basic, but important roles a cisco switch plays in our network environments. Students will learn how switches communicate data within our LAN's and how it stores information to determine where that data is being sent.
In this lecture, students will learn what routers are, and what roles they play in on our networks. We will primarily focus on Static Routing in this course, and will not discuss any dynamic routing protocols. Again, this course is designed for the students who need to build a foundation to understand key topics, and will allow them to build on them when they dive into a full CCNA course.
In this lecture, students can expect to learn about Packet Collisions through Half Duplex networks running hubs, and will learn CSMA/CD Algorithm which is used to detect these collisions and determine how the data should be sent again. Students will also learn how Switches are Full Duplex, and the part they play in the collision domain.
In this lecture students can expect to learn about Broadcast domains, and how broadcasts are sent through our networks. We will cover how devices are in different broadcast domains separated by networks and network devices.
This lecture will summarize both Collision Domain and Broadcast Domain lectures and show them together. We put them together so you can see how they're both part of our network and what rolls they play together, and then we open up packet tracer and can virtually see these topics in action.
In this lecture, we introduce VLANS, and thoroughly explain how they work and what their purpose is in our networks!
In this lecture, you will learn how to use two layer 2 devices (Switches) to communicate between multiple vlans.
In this lecture, you will take all of the VLAN and Trunking information you have learned and see how it can now communicate together using routers!
In this lecture, students will see the various Application Layer protocols and their associated port numbers which will be required to know for the CCNA exam, and we will introduce connection orientated and connectionless Transport Layer Protocols, or TCP and UDP.
In this lecture, you will learn about the two types of Application Layer Protocols that we use to connect to our network devices across the network. We will discuss why one is better than the other and then show it in action using our network simulator.
In this lecture, we introduce DHCP and give an example how it is configured, and you will see how our clients receive dynamic addresses.
In this lecture, you will learn how DNS translates domain names to IP addresses, and physically see it happening in packet tracer.
In this lecture we will introduce the networking architecture models we use to reference our network protocols, devices and the communications that take place in our networks.
In this lecture we will discuss the OSI Architecture model, and explain each of the 7 layers associated with it.
In this course, we briefly look at both versions of TCP/IP.
I made this brief lecture quickly to show anyone who is using a mac or linux operating system computer how to install Cisco Packet Tracer. Since we can not run Cisco Packet Tracer on a mac computer, we have to install a Virtual Machine onto our computers, and in this video i will use VMware Workstation. You will see how to install Ubuntu and then ill walk you through the linux commands to install Packet Tracer.
In this lecture you will learn how to navigate through the different levels of modes in the Cisco Operating System, and a couple simple commands which can make your life easier while configuring cisco devices.
In this lecture, you will learn how to connect to Cisco Switches and Routers using a Terminal Application. You will also learn how to copy and paste running configuration files to multiple devices.
In this lecture, you will learn more basic configurations for our Console connection, and learn how to configure our VTY connections.
In this lecture, we continue to learn some configuration basics and introduce basic security configuration
Hello everyone, Im Keith and I have been working in the IT industry for a little over 6 years now, working for both small companies and large fortune 500 companies. Working for a variety of companies in different industries has allowed me to gain a great insight on the important roles and responsibilities in the networking industry. Being in IT is a fun, but at times, challenging career. Technology is always evolving so it is important to stay well educated in many domains so you can grow with the technology and keep a strong, secure, and healthy network.
I began teaching in 2016 in small classroom environments, for different consulting jobs I had. That has lead me to dive into the world of online education which I only hope grows so I can help educate those who are eager to learn the material to be successful in today's technologically advanced industries.
