Have you recently bought a Canon EOS 700D or REBEL T5i and feel overwhelmed by all the options and settings?

Fear no more, help is at hand!

This user guide is recorded for any photographers who have purchased a Canon 700D / REBEL T5i and just need a friend to point them in the right direction.

This isn't a beginners guide to photography, I don't cover the basics of aperture and shutter speed for instance, I don't talk about composition. It is me showing you how to change settings and find features you didn't know about. You can see an example below which will show you the style of recording. Feel free to download a beginners guide to photography and run this along side it so when they tell you to use 'Aperture Priority' this video shows you how. When they suggest shooting a continuous burst of photos, I explain how. What I do cover is some great and practical advice on the settings you should use and I'll do all I can to get you off full auto!

I do mention my other training course FOCUSING several times as it sits very much along side this one. Focusing correctly is essential and that's why I've created a full course to just that. If you purchase this course I will give you a link to get the other course at half price!

Who should take the course?

This is designed specifically for Canon 700D / REBEL T5i users of all skill levels from beginners to competent photographers.

Why take the course?

In around 1 hours recordings I cover all the main features of this lovely entry level camera and end with a basic setup that I recommend you use.

By the end of the course you will...

  • understand where all the main settings are adjusted
  • know the settings I recommend and use
  • feel more confident with your new camera
  • start using your camera in the way it's designed to be used
  • be taking far better photos than you can on Auto!
REMEMBER - you get lifetime access to this course so you can download the app on your phone and always have my guide in your pocket!
Who is the target audience?
  • This course is for Canon EOS 700D owners
  • This course is for Canon EOS REBEL T5i owners
  • This course is designed for any skill level
  • This course IS NOT a 'beginners guide to photography' course

This is my first look over the Canon 700D pointing out a few basics before going into detail in the following videos.

I'm not a fan of auto modes so you won't hear me teaching on it here. I will however go through AV (Aperture Priority) TV (Shutter Priority) and M (Manual) modes, explain which you should use in different scenarios.

Priority Modes & Manual Mode

ONE SHOT, AI SERVO and AI FOCUS modes explained in this video, which mode to use in which scenario and how to change them.

So many people don't even realise you can manually choose where your camera focuses yet it's one of the most basic, fundamental features you need to know about. Here, rather than going through coaching I am showing you how to change the selection and work with it.

For detailed training on FOCUSSING see my other course right here on Udemy.

Autofocus Point Selection

One of those basic features that can ruin the pleasure of your photography if you don't know it's there. You shouldn't need to touch this but need to know it's there.

Viewfinder focus adjustment

This is where you choose between taking a single photo, a continuous burst or using the timer options. You'll discover some new features introduced with this camera which are pretty cool!

AF Drive Modes

Not a detailed explanation of what ISO is, you can find that on my website, rather an overview of what it does and which settings to be on.

Changing the ISO

Not a detailed explanation of what White Balance is (again, you can find that on the SLR Coaching website) , rather an overview of the options you have and how and when to change them.

White Balance

In this video I explain what metering is and what the different modes do. Most importantly, I advise which mode you want to keep your camera set on.

Metering Modes

This isn't a feature I use to be honest and I don't think many do but Canon obviously think it's important as they give it priority in the back of the camera! I explain what it's about and how to change it if you wish to.

Picture Styles

What's all the fuss about RAW and how do you select it? All that and more explained in this video.

Different File Types

Woohoo! This is very nice and to be honest I did the whole set of lectures above without realising how good it was! This video demonstrates how good the touch screen functionality is.

Touch Screen

It may sound silly but there really is a correct way to hold this camera and it will make a big difference to your photography if you get used to this.

How to correctly hold your camera

Finally, after explaining what all the main features of your new camera do I give you a basic set up that will get you started for your every day shooting. If you need more help please post your question below.

Basic setup

Again, this isn't meant as a sales video but it's great fun building up a collection of lenses and these are the first ones I recommend investing in. I also show you how to change them and what is and isn't ok.

I have been a professional photographer for over 10 years and turned to coaching 2 years ago. I realised that I was the 'go-to person' whenever any friends wanted help with their photography so I figured why not have a go at this training!

You can see my training website (below) where I love helping and encouraging amateur photographers. I see so many people go out and buy an SLR camera and then leave it at home when they go out as their phone's are easier. I'm taking on the challenge of releasing those cameras from the closet and getting people out taking great photos again that they'll love looking at for years to come!
