Module 2 Overview

In this video training program we are going to discover how you can use WordPress Websites to gain more clients and increase revenue in your Business.

WordPress Websites has been broken down into 4 separate modules with each module containing approximately 10 lessons. You will see the module 2 lessons below.

When you get started on each new lesson I recommend you read the tasks below each lesson before you start the video so you will get an idea of what you will be learning in the video.

Each lesson also has a full PDF transcript of the video. If you wish you may print this transcript to assist you in taking notes on the lesson.

We recommend you fully complete the steps in each lesson before moving onto the next lesson, this way by the time you reach the end of the course you will have a completed WordPress website for your Business that looks like it was designed by a real pro.

Lesson 2.0 - The WordPress Interface

In this lesson we start talking about the WordPress Interface and learn some basics of how we will be using the Interface in our work.

• Task Number 1

  During the first few lessons of Module 2 we will start off learning about the WordPress Interface and how it functions.

  We will be doing a lot of work with the Interface so you may want to watch these next few videos more than once and take notes.

   

Lesson 2.1 - Dashboard And Title

Learning more about the WordPress Interface we will dig deeper into the dashboard, the site title and talk about how site appearance changes are made.

Lesson Tasks

• Task Number 1

  We are going to start digging deeper into the WordPress Interface so take good notes. You may want to refer back to this video later to remember where things are located.

  One of your first tasks in this video is to select a Title and Tagline for your new website so lets do that now.

• Task Number 2

  We will play with the background colors on the basic WordPress Theme just to learn how they work. We will later be using a custom designed theme so these color changes are only temporary so do not worry about the colors you select.

  Do not spend a lot of time here, just play with it to get a feel for how things work as you follow along with the video.

• Task Number 3

  Play with the Static Front page setting as in the video just to get an understanding of what it does.

  This will also change when we start on your real design so right now just check it out to get an understanding of what this function does and I talk about it in the video lesson.

Lesson 2.2 - Creating Your First Post

In this lesson we will create your first WordPress post. We will go over all of the functions available when creating posts and things to consider when designing out your post.

• Task Number 1

  Let’s create your first post or article. Watch the video and discover the types of posts and post attributes you can select when creating a post.

  We will go over deleting the WordPress sample post and then write your first post while we learn a little bit about the different functions of the post interface.

• Task Number 2

  While we only create one post in this video play with posting a little bit before moving on. Maybe you have some old articles already written or some PLR articles you can use to get your blog started?

  Posting is a big part of WordPress so really get yourself comfortable with how these functions work by watching this video a few times and creating a few posts and drafts.

• Task Number 3

  If you do not have any sample content or articles you can post during these tests you can grab some sample content here.

  This will get you started with some quick copy and paste articles you can create some test posts with. Don’t worry, nothing for sale here just a few sample posts you can use and not worry about any copyright issues with.

Lesson 2.3 - Websites Categories

In this lesson we will talk about categories and post grouping so the content on your website is orderly and makes sense to your readers.

Lesson Tasks

• Task Number 1

  In your WordPress dashboard under the posts tab click on Categories and create your first category just as I do in the video. Be sure you add a slug and remember no spaces in your slug. You can categorize further by selecting a parent category when you create new categories. Now click "add new category" and you have just created your first new category.

• Task Number 2

  Try editing your sample posts to add them to the new category you just created. Remember you can add any given post to as many categories as you want.

• Note Number 1

  Be careful when you create categories to cover topics that are extremely relevant to what you do in your business. I recommend creating many categories right off the get go that suit your business needs. With that said take a break and spend some time making a full list of all the categories you think you may want to add. You can always add more later but lets try to start your site off with a set of categories that really says what your website is about.

Lesson 2.4 - Tags

In this lesson we will talk about WordPress Tags. Tags are similar to categories however they will make your content easily searchable by your readers. This is a great way to get your site visitors reading more of your content.

• Task Number 1

  Lets create your first Tag. Hover over Posts and select "Tags" - Tags are a great way to categorize a post that does not really fit into one of your categories. Choose a name for your Tag and click add! There are a lot of useful things you can use Tags for.

• Note Number 1

  Setup If you find yourself using any one Tag all the time you can at a later date convert a Tag to a Category and automatically update all of your previous posts that contain that Tag.

Lesson 2.5 - Inserting Images

In this lesson were going to take one of your sample WordPress posts that you previously created and show you the different ways you can insert images into posts and pages.

• Task Number 1

  Let's add your first picture to one of the posts you previously created. Find one of your old posts and click the "Add Media" button at the top of one of your posts. There are a few ways to add images into your post as you see in the lesson above. Try adding an image a few different ways so you can get the hang of it.

• Note Number 1

  Setup If you are looking for a way to add images to your posts but you do not have access to photos that are relevant to your topic there are stock photos you can license very inexpensively to add into your posts. For around a dollar an image you can find images at Deposit Photos - these are the guys I use and their pricing is very reasonable and the selection is massive. Check out Deposit Photos Here

• Note Number 2

  One more great place for stock photos you can use is PhotoDune which is part of the Envato Marketplace. When you select images from PhotoDune be sure you select the correct size for your needs. When using stock photography on your website usually one of the smaller sizes will work just fine. You only need the larger sizes for items going to print such as DVD cases or book covers. Most small size photos starting at one dollar are the perfect size for your website.

Lesson 2.6 - Widgets

In this lesson we talk about Widgets which are simply just a piece of code that does something big or small on your website. With widgets you can easily place this code anywhere you need to so it can do it's job.

  A Widget is a piece of code that is generated on your of your pages or posts that makes something happen. Widgets can do lots of things as we talk about in the video. Before you move onto the next lesson pick a few Widgets to incorporate into your website. Select Appearance in your WordPress Dashboard and then select Widgets and create a few so you can get a feel for how Widgets work.

  There are many Widgets that can control the look and feel of your website as well as Widgets that can add interactivity to your website. Over time after you have experimented with Widgets for a while you will find that they can come in very handy.. You can learn a lot more about what Widgets can do on the WordPress Widgets website.

  You would truly be amazed if you knew all the types of Widgets that are available. Check out Code Canyon widgets page one of my favorite placed to grab code that can do many wonderful things and the prices are amazing for what you can get a Widget to do. Code Canyon is just one of the many sites in the Envato Market where you can find all kinds of things to help market your business Online.

Lesson 2.7 - Themes

In this lesson were going to talk about what Themes are and how they can quickly get you on the path to an amazing looking website.

• Task Number 1

  Click on Appearance in your WordPress Dashboard and then select Themes. The active theme before you have installed a custom theme is one provided by WordPress.

  Click the live preview button so you can see what it does on a few of these pre-installed WordPress themes as I do in the video training above.

  In a few videos further ahead in the course we will install a custom theme and then start editing that theme to create your amazing WordPress website.

  Currently I am just trying to help you to understand some of the features and functions of WordPress. Soon we will be building out your site and even if you have no previous experience building a full blown WordPress website, I assure you that you will have an amazing website when we are done.

Lesson 2.8 - What Are Plugins

In this lesson we will cover Plugins, what they are and what they can do for your WordPress website to make it amazing with minimal time and or effort on upir part. Let Plugins do the heavy lifting for you!

  The On the left side of your Dashboard hover your mouse over plugins and click installed. This will show you the plugins that are currently installed in your copy of WordPress. Click into the search box on the upper right and lets search for plugins you can try the one I use in the demo video for a Calculator or you can search for something that is of interest to you.

  There are hundreds of thousands of plugins available and we will get more into the plugins I recommend in future videos.

  Plugins come in both free and paid versions and can do many many different things keep watching and a few videos from now you will see a few of the great plugins that will do many things to help get your website more traffic.

Lesson 2.9 - Permalinks

In this lesson we will talk about Permalinks and how they are critical in the early stages of setting up your website for the future SEO success of your website. Permalinks are simple but critical to the success of your site.

• Task Number 1

  One of the most important things we can do for your website is make sure it is very "Search Engine Friendly" while we will do a lot in this area one of the first things we will do is set a SEO friendly Permalink structure on your website.

  In your WordPress dashboard click on "Settings" on the left menu and then click on "Permalinks". There are many options but I recommend you go with the "Common Settings" and select the "Post Name" radio button. This option is the most popular for search as your URL or web address will contain the name of the article or post you are creating.

  You may also go with the custom structure as I do in the video using category and post name exactly in the format I use in the video.

  These are the only two options you should use for your Permalinks.

• Note Number 1

  You only need to set your Permalink structure once when you setup your website so do it now and then leave it alone!

  You will never want to change this setting because it will change all of your links within your website if you do, which may later effect your search rankings as well as break links other people may have posted to your website from theirs.

Lesson 2.10 - SEO Plugins

In this lesson we will quickly talk about SEO Plugins and show you the few that I recommend you install right away when you set-up your site so you will be able to get the best search engine rankings possible.

  Go to Plugins in the left hand side menu of your WordPress dashboard. We are going to add these SEO Plugins right now. Install them now and we will activate them together in the next few videos as we configure them to work best for your site rankings.

Lesson 2.11 - Basic SEO

In this lesson we will talk about basic SEO and how you can use a few plug-ins as well as other simple methods to help your website pages rank higher in the search engines.

  Activate both of the plugins we installed in the last video and lets get into setting them up. Select SEO on your left side menu to setup your Yoast SEO settings as I do in the video.

  While we go over some basic SEO settings in this video this is a very in-depth topic and you will want to do more research on it later. Check out the Yoast site for some great information on this subject.

  As I mentioned in the task above SCO is a very in-depth subject that will require more research for you to fully understand it and they can take years until you could actually master it. By installing the Yoast plugin you already have a massive head start but you will want to take notes during this lesson as with all lessons and know that SEO is something that you will likely never stop learning so with that said it will take time for you to fully master it.

Lesson 2.12 - Example SEO Post

In this lesson I will give you a good solid example of how you can use the Yoast search engine optimization plugin into a post for much better rankings, which will mean more traffic to your website.

  This is a good example of how we are going to use the Yoast plugin to optimize your posts for the Internet. Watch the video above and then use one of your posts to check out your snippet preview. Playing with this is the best way to learn how to use it as practice always makes perfect.

• Task Number 2

  Make sure you enter your focus keyword and choose a good SCO title based on the type of content that you create as you see in the sample video above. You will want to do this with every post that you create to ensure the highest rankings.

Lesson 3.0 - Theme Forest Avada

In this video I'm going to show you how to take your simple average looking website, and turn it into something powerful and amazing that's going to look fantastic and make you money.

  Okay so we are starting module number three which means were getting close to you having an amazing looking website.

  Right now go ahead and head on over to ThemeForest this is one of the best marketplaces to find amazing WordPress themes and one of these things is what will create the basic framework for the site we are about to design.

  While you are welcome to choose any theme you want most of what we say in the videos will still apply with some common sense adaptations to fit the theme that you're working with. I still highly recommend you go with the same theme that we are using in the training. We are using the Avada theme from ThemeForest and the reason I chose this theme because it is the number one most popular and high selling theme on the planet.

  It is a bestseller for a reason, which is simply because it's awesome in what it can do. Again while you do not have to select the same theme that we did I think you would be crazy not to because the theme is amazing and our videos follow along with the perfectly.

  If you do choose to select a different theme then you may need to watch the videos two or three times as everything we say aboutAvada will apply to almost any theme you choose however you will have to adapt the training to match the theme that you are working with. Go get Avada here now.

Lesson 3.1 - Installing Avada

In this lesson we will be installing the Avada custom WordPress theme from ThemeForest. This is an amazing theme with over 120,000 copies sold for a reason. We highly recommend you go with this theme however you're welcome to choose another if you wish.

  OK I am going to assume that you have a copy of the Avada Theme from ThemeForest - If you do not have it yet grab it now and in the next video we are going to get to installing it and then as we progress we will be molding it into an amazing website for you. Like I previously said you are free to select any other WordPress template, there are many others I like but the one we are using in the video training is one of the best, it is very flexible and will work well for any kind of business.

• Task Number 2

  Install and activate your theme as I do in the video. The theme will require a few plugins you will see this data after you install it. Install these necessary plugins and turn on the two sliders.

• Note Number 1

  Once you install the theme you will see it does not look great yet. We will get it looking great in the next few videos so have patience and get ready to start seeing some serious results soon.

Lesson 3.2 - Importing Sample Data

In this lesson we will assume that you have installed the Avada theme. We will show you how you can import the sample data the Avada theme uses in the demo site so you can then edit that data to suit your needs which will be easier than building your site.

  Recap: We have now installed the Avada Theme. It does not look great yet but it will soon because we are going to start customizing it now..

• Task Number 1

  We are now going to import the sample Avada Demo content data. We do this by selecting "Appearance" in your left had side WP menu.

  Now select if you want to install the"Classic or Agency" demo data, here are links to check both of these layouts BEFOR you import and I stress before because you only want to do this once. If you happen to click the import data button more than once it will duplicate all the demo content and this can create a real mess so be very careful here!

  We are going to use the Classic Demo data import in our videos so it may be easier to follow along if you also import the classic data but you are free to import whichever version you prefer.

Lesson 3.3 - Making Changes

In this lesson rather than talk about something specific I want to relate a concept to you so we will both be on the same page later as this concept can apply to many things when dealing with WordPress.

  The When you start making changes to your website there are two things you can change as a generality.

  1. You can change the content of your website. - When you change the content of your website you will be using WordPress and the Page or Post functions to make all of your content changes.

  2. You can change the look or the functionality of your website - When you change the look or behavior of your website you will be using the Appearance options in the left side WordPress Menu, this will change the look and way the site functions.

  Once you understand these two concepts it will help greatly as we move on in building out your site.

Lesson 3.4 - Changing the Logo

In this lesson were going to talk about changing out the Avada imported sample data and start working on customizing the site with your content. We'll start with the logo and other content to start making the site layout your very own.

  A theme is basically a template for your website. Think of it as the framework for everything but you get to put the finishing touches on it to make it your own..

• Task Number 1

  Lets change your logo by going to Appearance then "Theme Options" now select logo and lets replace it with something with your business or product name. You want your logo to be a PNG format with a transparent background. we want the size to be around 120 x 40 pixels however you can play with other sizes to see what works best for your logo layout.

  You may already have a logo for your brand or you can find a logo template you can edit at GraphicRiver this is also part of Envato and not only can you get a logo here you can also get them to edit it for you if you are not very good with Photoshop.

  Editing something like a logo is not hard in Photoshop since the design is already done it is simply a matter of opening the file they give you and editing the text almost like you would edit text in a word document.

  You can get a free 30 day trial of Photoshop here so do not let the expensive cost of that software stop you since you will only need it for a day to edit your logo this 30 day trial will be more than enough to get your logo done. You will also find that some of the logos at GraphicRiver will come with a video to help you edit the text so watch to see if that is included when selecting your logo. We will also try to get a simple video up on our YouTube channel showing how to edit a logo as this is a little beyond the scope of this training program.

  If you have no Photoshop experience it is absolutely worth a few dollars to have someone edit this for you at the site where you select your logo. You can also find free logos with a Google search but usually in my opinion it is worth paying a few bucks for one as the quality will be better and there will be no hoops to jump through as most things that are fee on the Internet require.

Lesson 3.5 - More Modifications

This will be one of our longer lessons, were going to get into more modifications and changing the Avada imported content into your own content to really start to give your site a much more personal feel to match the needs of you and your business.

  Go to Appearance down to Theme Options, this is where we will be working right now to make edits to your site.

  1. Edit the footer data to match your website as I do in the video. The footer is the bottom of your page site-wide.

  2. Edit the Header - this will be the menu style and your logo. Edit this after watching the options I will go over in the video.

  3. Go to Menus and lets narrow down and get rid of a few items from the menu that you know you are not going to use. The pages will still be there for you to edit later but lets clean up the menu and get it down to a smaller more manageable about of menu items.

  We want your site clean and only including pages you really need in your menu so your site visitors are not overwhelmed with to many options that are nu-necessary. Watch the video for more information on this.

• Task Number 2

  Try making some modifications to your About Me page as I do in the video. We will slowly be working on changing some of these pages around so you can start getting more comfortable with editing pages the more you do it.

  While we are going to cover a lot of information in this video training nothing will teach you better than "doing".

  Be sure you follow along and do all of the editing I do in the video and then take some time before moving onto the next video and try editing a few of the additional pages.

  The more you do these kind of edits the better you will get at it faster.

Lesson 3.6 - Circle Modifications

In this lesson we will get into more customizations of the Avada theme import data by working with the about me page and teaching you about custom circle modifications.

  Go to your Pages menu in WordPress and find the about-me page we are going to do some editing here. You can also go to your full DomainName.com/about-me and find this page as well and click edit in your top Grey WordPress menu to access this page assuming you are logged into WordPress and that you installed WordPress in the Root of your domain as we did.

  Follow along with me and make the same edits that I do in this lesson.

  Try changing the Style to see what happens when you experiment with them as I do at about 2:30 into this lesson.

• Task Number 2

  Experiment with editing the Counter Circles by hitting the Element Edit button as I do in the video. These counter circles can be used for all kind of things in your web pages and you will be able to add them within Avada to other pages when you find you can use one. These are great when you talk about data numbers in your site.

• Task Number 3

  You will see I changes the sizes, the colors and many other parts about these counter circles. See what you can do with some experimentation with these counter circles.

Lesson 3.7 - Toggles

In this lesson we will be getting more into how the Avada theme functions and how you can use some of the features to customize your pages within your website. While we are still working on the about me page, what you learn with these customization's is valid site-wide and will work on any page you choose to use it on.

  In this lesson we will be getting more into how the Avada theme functions and how you can use some of the features to customize your pages within your website. While we are still working on the about me page, what you learn with these customizations is valid site-wide and will work on any page you choose to use it on.

  What were doing is breaking down the default about me page as it comes with the Avada theme. Were going through the different elements and I'm simply demonstrating how to make modifications to those elements.

  The purpose of that is that because there are so many functions that are available to you with this theme that obviously I can not go over every single one of them but if you understand how the theme functions then most of the modifications that you do are pretty self-explanatory can be figured out really quick.

  Most of what you learn here will also translate to any other themes you may be working with on additional future websites that you put up.

  This is great because regardless of if you are just create one or many websites with WordPress for your own business or if you decide later to start selling website design services to other businesses what you learn here will give you the ability to work with any website install you attempt to do in the future.

• Task Number 1

  Check out the highlights section of the about me page play with the plus sign toggles a little bit on the page so you can see how these work. Now let's click edit page in the bar above as I do in the video and will practice editing them.

  Hit the pencil editing tool and change the titles of one of the sections. Now lets modify the toggles as I do in the video.

  There are many options such as "open by default" - experimenting with these functions so you can get a better feel for what they do.

  By now you're starting to see that everything we do has a pretty simple process it is just a matter of you learning what that process is. And the more you play with and experiment with the features available and the more you watch these videos the more sense it will start to make as we move along.

  Always keep in mind that you're not going to remember all of this the first time you watch it but since you have lifetime access to this member's area definitely come back and watch these videos from time to time again as we move along as a refresher.

  The more you watch the content and the more you work with the editing within WordPress the more of an expert you will become.

Lesson 3.8 - About Me Profile Picture

In this lesson we will dive into setting up your "Profile" by editing your profile picture. We will also talk about other profile aspects of your new WordPress Website.

  In this lesson were going to talk about editing your profile associated with your personal log into WordPress.

  We are going to add a picture and edit a few other features to custom associate your profile with you. Not only will the shop on your about me page but anytime you make a post the site it will be associated with your profile.

  If you have a guest writers or other people within your company that will be posted to the site you can also set up separate profiles for them so anything they post will be attributed to them.

• Task Number 1

  On your about me page let's edit your profile picture. Start by hovering over the picture and clicking edit element.

  Go ahead and change your name and business title, type of profile description for yourself, and upload a new image. You can also enter your social networking links on this page as well.

  Don't forget to click save once you have made all of your edits.

  This is a lot of work so do not over do it. Take a break anytime you need it and then when you come back lets start the next lesson!

Lesson 3.9 - Recent Works

In this lesson we will talk about how dynamic data can always make your WordPress Website homepage to appear fresh and relevant automatically displaying all of your recent works.

  The In this video were to take a look at a really cool feature that just basically shows you recent posts that you have created.

  This feature will create dynamic content that will show up on your home page as you see in the video. This looks like a lot of work but it's done by the theme so you get to just focus on doing what you do like selling stuff and making money.

  When you put content on your site this kind of stuff is automatically generated by posts that you create.

• Task Number 1

  Watch the full video first and then lets make some edits to the recent works as I do in the video lesson above.

  As we everything so far take a break from the videos and play with this function for a little while.

  Take your time. This lesson as with this entire course you should be consuming it a bite at a time and then work with what you have learned before moving onto the next lesson.

  IMPORTANT: As I mentioned way back in the notes of Lesson 1.1 - Take your time with the lessons in this program!

  As you go through this entire course you should be consuming lessons a bite or two at a time. The work with what you have learned before moving onto the next lesson.

  This course was not designed to be watched in one big 5 hour marathon session. That works on Netflix but that will not work here. To get the most knowledge that you can from this training watch a little at a time and do the work.

  If you do not do the work, you will not get the reward as with everything in life.

Lesson 3.10 - Tagline Builder

In this lesson we will get into talking about the Tagline Builder. You can use taglines to drive traffic to any place you want within your website, two other websites that you own, or to affiliate links that you promote.

  Lets build a tag. We are still on the "About Me" page. Droll down to the bottom of that section where it says tagline box.

  click on that the tagline box element and where it says button text lets edit that text and add a link.

  You can use these tagline links to promote affiliate products, your own products, or simply to lead a reader to another page with in your own website.

• Note Number 1

  Definitely spend some time here, while it may seem simple taglines are something that we will use on an ongoing basis for the life of your website.

  Taglines are great tools to generate clicks to other places you would like your audience to go.

  We want to train our audience to click around our site and spend as much time there as possible and taglines can help make this happen.

Lesson 3.11 - Fusion Builder

In this lesson were going to explore the Fusion Builder which is an incredibly powerful page builder plugin that is included when you purchase the Avada theme. The Fusion Builder is a great tool for building or editing new page layouts.

  In this lesson were going to talk about the Fusion Builder which for me is a great part about Avada.

  I used to build pages back in the old days using Microsoft FrontPage and comparing to that the Fusion Builder really kicks some serious butt when used in WordPress to build a page.

  The Fusion builder does many cool layout functions in a very easy fashion so watch the video lesson above and lets play with the Fusion Page Builder as you see me do in the video.

• Task Number 1

  Make some edits with the Fusion Builder before moving on to the next video. Watch what I do in the video and try some of the same things.

  Create new boxes and change the background colors, create new columns and play with those.

  Keep in mind you want your new columns in any new row you create to add up to 100% one way or another as I go over in the video!

  We will get more into this but spend some time exploring the Fusion Builder before going on to the next lesson so you can get a feel for it and be up to speed when we dig in deeper in the next lesson, which is the last lesson in Module 3 which is Lesson 3.12 Fusion Builder Elements.

Lesson 3.12 - Fusion Builder Elements

The Fusion Builder package is a very serious and powerful page builder. In this video we will talk about the Fusion Builder Elements, what they do and how you can use them to add items into your pages as you build your site out.

  As I mentioned in the previous lesson the Avada scene comes with the Fusion Builder. This is a very powerful way of adding new columns builder elements containers and other things into your page building efforts.

  Lets start off by looking at the "Builder Elements"

  As you can see there are many different elements that you can add to the containers below simply by clicking on the element that you want and dragging it down to your selected container.

  Watch me do this in the video, but please understand there is no way I can do this for every single element on this page.

  That said watch me do it in the video and then choose a few to play with and experiment with your self. The best way you will learn is by doing so check out the titles of a few of these that sound interesting to you and experiment.

  Watch the video and then experiment with these right now, it will be time well spent.

  Do not move onto the next lesson in Module 4 until you have spent some time on this.

  As you see me do in the lesson, try

  1. Inserting some image frames.

  2. Insert a Google Map and play with the functions of maps for a while.

  You get the idea, really dig deep into this and get a feel for how cool this is once you understand it.

Module 4 Overview

In this video training program we are going to discover how you can use WordPress Websites to gain more clients and increase revenue in your Business.

WordPress Websites has been broken down into 4 separate modules with each module containing approximately 10 lessons. You will see the module 4 lessons below.

When you get started on each new lesson I recommend you read the tasks below each lesson before you start the video so you will get an idea of what you will be learning in the video.

Each lesson also has a full PDF transcript of the video. If you wish you may print this transcript to assist you in taking notes on the lesson.

We recommend you fully complete the steps in each lesson before moving onto the next lesson, this way by the time you reach the end of the course you will have a completed WordPress website for your Business that looks like it was designed by a real pro.

Lesson 4.1 - Unpublishing Pages

In this video I will show you how to start cleaning up some of the imported data and un-publishing pages keeping only the data that you wish to edit for use in your actual website.

• Task Number 1

  The In this lesson we will start cleaning up some of the imported data that was auto created back when we used the Avada import function.

  Why don't recommend just deleting all of these pages you definitely don't want them showing up on your website so let's clean this up but save some of the pages so we can use them as templates days or months down the road when you want to add new pages.

  You have a few options here, you can just flat out delete pages or you can also unpublish pages so we can use them later.

  This can be a bit of a tedious process but it will go fast.

  Go ahead and go through your whole website and start unpublishing a lot of the pages you do not think you will use. You can always turn them back on later.

• Note Number 1

  In the next video we will go through the 20 homepage options Avada gave us when we imported the data and select the one we will use for the homepage of our website.

Lesson 4.2 - Changing Layout

In this lesson we will go over the layout of your website as a currently stands, and how you can change the layout and the content to better suit the needs of you and your business.

  In this lesson are going to be changing the layout of your website. Avada comes with 20 different home page layouts all of which are very different from each other.

  Were going to help you find the layout that you like the best talk you little bit about what this page will do for your website and help you get dialed in.

  In your left hand side menu let's go down the Settings menu function and then select the reading section.

  While wordPress was in the early days used only as a blog now it is more commonly used as a website builder.

  Because of this we need to create a "static page" for the homepage of your website.

  Follow along with the settings I choose in the video lesson and let the experiment with a couple of the different homepage options. I literally recommend that you go through every single one of them to decide which one will fit your needs best.

  Take your time in selecting the page that will be your home page and keep in mind the layout doesn't have to be perfect.

  You just want to find something that's very close to what you want so they'll be as minimal editing as possible once you start making it your own with a few simple edits.

Lesson 4.3 - Slider Modification

In this lesson were going to start dealing with the Slider Modification and while it can be very cool it can also be a little bit on the technical side so pay close attention you may need to watch the next few videos more than once.

  In this lesson were going to start dealing with teaching you how to edit some of the sliders that were bundled with Avada.

  As you see in the video above sliders can create some really cool facts on your website but they can also be a little bit more on the technical side than some of the stuff we have been dealing with thus far.

  With that said you are going to want to take notes and pay very close attention during the next few lessons, and keep in mind you may need to come back and watch them more than once to fully understand what were doing here.

  No matter what happens don't get frustrated everything is covered in the video. Always keep in mind that if you watch and experiment with anything long enough you soon become an expert at it.

  Because the training on the sliders is a lot to deal with we will break it up in the multiple sections.

  As you can see these sliders are dynamic and can be set to play automatically or they can be manually browsed as well.

  We are working right now with Homepage #7 so you should be working on that page also right now so you can follow along.

  Find the page titled Home Version 7 and click on it and lets focus on Fusion Options.

  Select the Revolution Slider and follow along with me in the video.

  Watch the full video lesson first and then go back and play it and pause it your second time through and make sure you take the same steps exploring it that I do.

  In the next lesson 4.4 Slider Text we will actually get into editing the slider content.

  The more you work with these the better you will get with them, keep that in mind as we get started.

Lesson 4.4 - Slider Text

What I am going to be showing you in this lesson are some of the slider text modifications. We will start off with some of the easier edits and move onto the more complex edits as we progress through the slider modification training.

  Now I cannot emphasize enough the complexity that is facilitated with the sliders but do not let the slider complexity overwhelm you watch this video all the way for you to the end before you even attempt to make one single edit.

  Then play it through a second time with me and hit the pause button often as you duplicate the edits that I make in the sample.

  Run through this a few times and get comfortable with how everything works you'll see that once you get comfortable with the workflow it's really not that hard to manage.

  Okay let's get started!

  We are going to start with the easier modifications to get you used to what we are doing here.

  In the last video we selected #3 Slide in the Revloution slider section, lets start here.

  Click on some of the text elements and drag them around so you can get the feel of it. Where you drop it is where it will end in the animation.
  

  When you select the text you are working with you can scroll down and change the test to your message under the "Layer Content" box.

  Refresh it and it will update.

  Do this for all text elements on this slider as I do in the video and save when you are done.

Lesson 4.5 - Timing and Layers

In this lesson we we discuss the Slider Timing. What goes on behind the scenes here is very complex but the good news is the software handles most of the hard work for you. You can create some very cool effects with slider timing.

  In this video would like to discuss with you the timing of the layers of each of the slides.

  Watch along in the video above as I count seconds off during the sliders animation and then when we go into the layers timing and sorting section of the editor will get a better idea for what's going on behind the scenes.

  Once you understand this you'll see how we can remove layers, move specific layers to different times, as well as speed up or slow down different layers.

• Task Number 1

  Take notes and do a little experimenting here and you will easily start to see how this is working and you will get a better understanding of how you edit it to suit your needs once you understand this.

Lesson 4.6 - Slider Animation

In this video I will show you how to make modifications to the animation that occurs in the individual slides. The layer animation section is a little more complex so pay close attention. If you are familiar with PowerPoint you will easily pick this up.

  In the layer animation section of the slider editing screen were going to make a few edits.

  Watch the video first without trying to edit along with me. Then on your second time through just as we have done before pause the video at the points where I make edits so you can make edits as well without missing anything happening in the video lesson.

  This again is just a experimentation process that will get easier for you the more times you do it.

  Don't think because you watched this one for minute video that you're going to understand and be able to do all of it in four minutes.

  While it may only take me four minutes to explain this part of this editing process to you may need to spend 20 or 30 minutes possibly longer actually editing and experimenting with this part of the layer animation editor.

  Keep this in mind while you are working through these more complex sections.

Lesson 4.7 - Slider Background

In this video we are going to make a real simple adjustment to the background of the slide. You can use images, a solid color, or even a URL to pull in content from a website. This is a very cool feature so have fun experimenting.

  Lets make a simple adjustment to the slider background in this lesson.

  Look for the box above the slider in the editing tool titled Slider Main Image / Background.

  As you can see you can put your background source to multiple different options.

  Number 4 Solid Colored

  Watch the video and some of the experiments I try with the background. Try some of these experiments for yourself and see what kind of effect you can create.

  You been playing with editing the sliders a little bit you're probably starting to see the actually pretty easy, even though it seems a little intimidating at first.

  Follow along with the videos and let's do some more edits starting with resizing an image, you can see simply by clicking on it and dragging the size of the box that appears around the image we can play with the sizes.

  In a moment we will show you how to add images but for now let's play with the ones that are already in there.

  Experiment with adding new images into the slider by replacing existing images.

  Try adding images from your image library as I do in the video, and then also try adding new images from your computer as well.

• Task Number 3

  Now let's add a video. Let's add a video from YouTube what you can do by entering a YouTube video ID or URL to the video as you see me do in the lesson above.

  Try playing with some of the autoplay settings as well as editing hiding the controls play speed and more.

  You can see in the video I'm just showing you how to do this I'm not trying to make my slider look beautiful but by experimenting with some of the functions I'm sure you can do some really cool stuff once you get used to working with this.

Lesson 4.9 - Featured Image and Import Dates

In this lesson we will cover how to change the Featured Image on your site. We will also cover Import Dates and do some house cleaning of the dates of imported content because our content on the site is often sorted by date.

  Okay so work starting to wrap up on what you can do with sliders by now you should have a fairly decent understanding of what they do, how they work, and what is possible.

  You're definitely going to need to go back through the slider section watch them more than once and in all honesty in a few days or maybe a week for some people you will start to forget some of the stuff.

  That's a great time to come back and watch them again because folks these are a little bit complicated and unless your photographic memory you will need to review this content from time to time until you've done it so many times it is become ingrained in your memory.

  Now in this step I would like to show you how to do a little bit of housecleaning.

  Depending on when the content that you imported was originally created you can end up with some dates that do not jive with the content that you edited into your new page.

  You also don't want your website to look like it was built in 2012 example: today while I write this it is May 1, 2015 yet some of the posts is WP are from one of the first versions of Avada..

  Watch the video and learn how to clean up or modify import dates to make the match with when you are actually releasing your content.

  WooCommerce is a great shopping cart for your WordPress website and the base version can be started for free as a simple plug-in.

  I'm talking affiliate programs, shopping carts, project managers, and so very much more when you have time check it out.

  You want to focus on their WooCommerce Extensions and also check out the WooCommerce plugins
