Content and Overview
With my knowledge from lessons learned during decades of leading a hundred plus major successful and also failed projects, I developed this no-nonsense pragmatic 'Break Down to Build Up' approach, especially for the creation of products and services in the small business domain.
This tutorial is extremely suitable for small business entrepreneurs who have a product or service in mind and need some help to create that product or service efficiently, with in-depth insight and full control of the production process. It's a very concise tutorial only covering what is useful to know to be successful. No unnecessary bells and whistles.
To be clear, this tutorial is not meant to help you find a product or service, but to produce your product or service once you have the big picture in mind for that product or service. On the other hand you might come up with an unexpected idea just by following this tutorial.
As a bonus, in the process of creating your product or service with this approach, you will find multiple intermediate products and services that you can use in your marketing funnel.
We will start by setting the Focus so we are clear on the objective. Then I will go into the 'Break Down to Build Up' approach and illustrate this approach with a Realistic Example of a small business product. The next topic is about Dependencies in the production process. And now that we know what we want, we will dive into the Resourcing and Planning to get the job done. Finally we will do a Check and a Dry Run to be sure we have everything in place and we are ready for production. After that, I will of course cover the bonus I promised, and wrap up with an interesting final thought.
All is covered in 10 short concise modules! Each Module consists of a Video and a Handout of the slides and the associated video narration transcripts.
If you follow this approach to the T, at the end you will have a feasible plan for creating your product and service with in-depth insight and full control of the production process. As a bonus you will also have multiple intermediate products and services that you can use in your marketing funnel.

In this lecture I introduce myself as your tutor and explain why I am qualified to teach this course. I also explain who can benefit most from this course, and who this curse is not meant for. Next to that I explain how to follow this course to get the most out of it.
Finally I give a concise overview of the topics that will be covered in the course.
In this lecture I set the focus to define our objective so we can proceed with the right mindset without being distracted. Now we have a PROJECT!
I also explain the best practice 'Break Down to Build Up' approach that we will be applying to achieve our goal. That is what this course is all about.
In this lecture I explain the 4 decomposition steps of the 'Break Down to Build Up' approach using a simplified example.
In this lecture I give a few tips regarding the questions I often get from students about which verbs can best be used in the decomposition process, and which tools to use to document the process.
|Section 2: Practice Project|
This lecture is the core of the course. Here I apply the 'Break Down to Build Up' approach in a comprehensive but yet concise way to create a realistic small business product. The words 'puzzle' and 'puzzle pieces' are key words here. This example can be used as a blueprint to create any small business product or service.
In this lecture I explain how to determine in which order the different tasks at hand have to be done, taking in account all kinds of interdependencies.
I also explain how these tasks have to be resourced with people, time and budget, to get the job done.
Before we go on, we do a recap to where we stand at this moment in the process. Just to be sure before we go on to the planning of the tasks to be done. I go into the aspects that need attention in the planning process. Now all the preparation work is done. Now we have a PLAN!
We are almost ready to go, but in this lecture we do a check using a checklist, and a dry run just to be sure that our plan is completely feasible. We fix what has to be fixed and do a re-run if needed, until we are satisfied. Now we have CONTROL! We are ready to create our product or service.
|Section 3: Bonus & Wrap Up|
In this bonus lecture I explain how you can put the intermediate products you gathered in the process, to use in your marketing funnel. They have the look and feel of your final product or service, so they are ideal for your marketing funnel leading up to your final core product or service.
In this lecture I recap what we learned in the former lectures. I also make you aware of the fact that you now have a skill and tool at your disposal so you can make any product or service of anything you can think of. All you need is the big picture of a possible product or service.
