In this introductory lecture on the ancient principles of Ayurveda, Madhuri weaves together the essence of what Ayurveda is, how to understand your unique dosha or constitution and how to bring yourself back in to balance. You will gain insight into why certain yoga practices, diet and lifestyle may be good for some and disastrous for others.
This yoga practice is specifically designed to de-stress and relax you, in other words to pacify the movement, anxiety and overwhelm of vata out of whack. The asanas (postures) focus on balancing the home site of vata, the colon and keep you close to the earth to ground you. The pranayama (breathing) practice focusses on bringing balance to the two hemispheres of the brain, calming the nervous system and helping you to focus and relax. Practice this class anytime you've burnt yourself out, need to calm down, reduce insomnia and stress or to prevent any of these things from happening! As fall is the vata time of year this class is wonderful for anyone no matter what your specific dosha in the autumn or simply to slow down and wind down.

Focusing on pacifying pitta (fire dosha) this class will sooth and relax you, bringing you back in alignment with your inner wisdom and truth. The asanas (postures) focus on balancing the home site of pitta, the small intestine, cleansing the blood and keeping you relaxed and calm. The pranayama (breathing) practice focusses on cooling the mind and the body temperature. Practice this class anytime you're feeling overheated, agitated, angry, inflamed or are challenged with acid reflux, acne, burning indigestion or other heated symptoms. This yoga practice is specifically designed to invigorate and energize, leaving you feeling uplifted and balanced. If you’re feeling heavy, dull, slow or lethargic in the mind or body this class will enliven your energy. Focusing on pacifying kapha (earth and water dosha) this class will warm you up, burn away complacency, fatigue and stress. The asanas (postures) focus on balancing the home site of kapha, the stomach, lungs and chest. The pranayama (breathing) practice focusses on cleansing the sinus area and third eye. Practice this class anytime you're feeling lethargic, unmotivated or are challenged with excess weight, sluggish digestion or a cloudy brain. Practice this ancient meditation of ‘SO HUM’ daily to create space in the mind, balance the emotions and to relax your body. You will be lead into the meditation with the peaceful ‘Shanti Mantra’ chant and guided through the practice of SO HUM meditation. Practice this mediation daily for best results.
Madhuri is an internationally known Yoga teacher certified Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist (CAS) and Pancha Karma Specialist (PKS), receiving certification from the California College of Ayurveda and the Bihar School of Yoga, India as well as advanced study with Dr. Vasant Lad. Madhuri is a certified Bio-Energy Practitioner, a head faculty member of the Langara College Yoga Teacher Training, Advanced Yoga Teacher Training and teaches Ayurveda in the Spa Therapy program at the College. She is a radio host for Drishti Point Yoga Radio and the co-organizer of the Vancouver Ayurveda Meet-Up Group. Her Ayurvedic practice is located at the Chopra Yoga Centre, Vancouver. Madhuri has shared her knowledge and wisdom with students and clients across North America, England and in India for more than a decade. Through her own 7 year illness and un-diagnosable health challenges she decided to take her healing into her own hands, study Ayurveda and assist others with this wisdom to transform their health and wellbeing. It is her intention to empower those who are ready to heal and assist them to renovate their current state of health to one of optimal vibrancy and vitality.
