This shows you how easy it is to create an Audio Book course on Udemy. It will not be listed in the market place but in every other respect it is just as good! And you can sell it too!
Please Introduce Yourself!
|Section 2: Get Started|
There are at least six good reasons to create an audio book from your existing video course and I explain them here. Bear in mind that not every video course is suitable for the audio book treatment particularly if it is very dependent on visual demonstrations and screencasts.
If you don't have Audacity installed on your computer you will have to go to the download site, get it and install it. The programme is completely free and simple to install. This lecture shows you where to go and then you just follow the instructions for a download in the normal way.
Before we get started, I would like to show you the key tools we are going to be using in Audacity so that you will find the creation of your own Audio Book easier. If you are already familiar with Audacity, you can probably skip this lecture.
If you are new to Audacity, why not try creating your own small audacity file and working your way through this lecture with your own Audacity recording to get familiar with Audacity
|Section 3: Getting Your Audio Book Set Up|
To make sure that you are going to create your audio books to a consistent standard, I have set out some guidelines for you to follow. They are not complicated or difficult but will make your production much more professional.
The Opening and Closing credits tell your listener some key information about your audio book and are important to include. This lecture explains what they need to contain
This is the first time that you are going to be opening Audacity so this is a good way to introduce you to the application. I show you exactly how to open a new Audacity project, record your opening and closing credits and save the file.
|Lecture 10||1 page|
You will find the Project Check List attached to this document. You need to record your opening and closing credits
|Section 4: Get Your Chapters From Your Video Course|
Now we need to get the audio tracks from our video course. This is simple process with either Camtasia or Screenflow and I show you how to do it in this lecture.
|Lecture 12||1 page|
Now you need to create the individual audio files from your Video Course. Complete this exercise before you go any further.
Lets take a time out - I would love to get your feedback on the course - start a discussion or message me.
This would also be a great time for you to help out other students by telling them what you think about the course - why not leave a rating and review now? You can always go back and edit it at any time later if you wish.
|Section 5: Transforming Your Video Chapters into Your Audio Book Chapters|
Before we get to the most technical (but not difficult) part of this course, I just want to explain to you the steps we will do to edit each chapter file.
Once you have created all your audio files, you need to do a little bit of editing before creating the MP3 Files. I am going to show you what needs to be done in this lecture.
Exercise 3 - Editing Your Chapter in Audacity
|Section 6: The Importance of a Prologue|
Why You Need a Prologue to your Audio Book and How to Create One
|Lecture 18||1 page|
Now is the time to create your Audio Book's Prologue if you are going to have one. This is Exercise 4.
|Section 7: Creating Your MP3 Chapter Files for Your Audio Book|
Exporting and Tagging a Chapter of your Audio Book
|Lecture 20||1 page|
Now you have to create your MP3 audio files and tag them with the meta data information about your Audio book. This is Exercise 5.
|Section 8: Compile Your Audio Book into a Single File|
Very often it is easier for your audience to handle your Audio Book as a single file. Compiling this from your chapter files is not difficult as I will show you. I will then show you how to get a constant audio level across the whole file using free software which you can download - Levelator.
Don't forget you can use this technique for each of your single chapters one at a time to get this consistent audio level in each chapter.
|Lecture 22||1 page|
Now its your turn to compile your Audio book into a single file (Exercise 6) and if you wish to use Levitator to smooth out the Audio Levels (Exercise 7).
|Section 9: The Importance of an Introductory Video|
As most courses on Udemy are video, you need to explain that your audio book is not a video course. I think it is important to get across the point that you make in your Prologue, that the audio style is less formal than if the course was narrated from a written script. I actually think this is a good point - it makes the Audio Book much easier to listen to.
This is an introductory video from my Audio Book so you can see how I have pitched it.
|Section 10: Course Summary and Wrap Up|
Congratulations on completing this course! Go now and start creating your audio books and posting them for sale on Udemy!
I have attached a summary of the exercise sheet to this lecture so that you can download it and use it to check off your progress.
