This is the first lecture of the course. It defines aromatherapy and distinguishes it from herbalism and non-natural aromatherapy found in the general marketplace. A few essential oils are also introduced in this lecture.
In this lecture, we cover the history of aromatherapy and the use of herbs and aromatic essences from ancient civilizations through to current times.
The basic categories of essential oils and their general benefits to the mind, body and spirit are covered in this lecture. These categories include Herbs, Citrus, Conifer Trees, Other Trees, Leaves/Grasses, and Flowers.
This lecture describes safe ways to use essential oils such as for skin care, first aid, and in the home. It also reviews some of the main cautions and conditions which might make essential oils an unsafe choice.
We'll cover the main methods of extracting and distilling essential oils in this lecture such as steam distillation, cold pressing, maceration, and enfleurage.
Essential oils are usually mixed or diluted with base oils, creams, lotions, gels, etc. In this lecture, we'll go over the most commonly used bases in aromatherapy and I'll mention other supplies that you might want for your aromatherapy projects.
This aromatherapy course should only be the beginning for you, as a budding aromatherapy enthusiast! I'll show you my favorite and trusted sources of information so that you can explore them in your own study after this course.
Here's a little bit about my life and experiences in case you're wondering about my background. This is completely unnecessary for the course, but since we don't get to meet face to face in a classroom....

This aromatherapy course is not affiliated with any products company or multi-level marketing scheme. It is purely educational. You do not need to purchase anything to go through this course, although if you already have a few essential oils on hand to sniff and examine during the lectures, that's great!
You should complete this course before moving on to more advanced topics such as blending and aromatherapy treatment design. This course is more conceptual than a workshop would be. It will give you the knowledge you need to jumpstart your aromatherapy practice and confidence to begin using essential oils.
