What Will I Learn?
Take the AKT, with confidence that you have prepared systematically and thoroughly.

Requirements
  • You are going to need a working knowledge of the most common medical terms, and a basic understanding of common diseases, drugs, and investigations used in the NHS.
  • Either that, or just grab a medical dictionary and dive in! It's all pretty straightforward really.
  • Be aware of important recent guideline changes. I'll try to keep on top of all the changes, and I give the publication date at the start of each lecture, but medicine changes very quickly!
Description

This is a fast paced and straightforward approach to learning what you need to know to pass the RCGP's AKT exam and to being able to practise effectively as a GP. The lectures are short, detailed, and to the point, with a focus on the knowledge that tends to be tested in the AKT. Each lecture also comes with a quiz to help you cement your learning. Take this course, and you'll find that you quickly develop a reasonable working knowledge of everything you need to know to be a good GP (along with some of the pointless stuff you need to know to pass the exam).

Who is the target audience?
  • This course is designed for UK GP trainees, who are preparing for their AKT examination.
  • It should also be useful to medical students who need to cover a wide breadth of medical knowledge when preparing for finals.
  • It would also be useful to doctors seeking to gain a place on the UK GP training scheme, who need to sit their 'part 2' written assessment.
  • It might be useful to other healthcare staff, who want to broaden their medical knowledge generally.
  • It is probably too detailed to be useful to you if you are applying for medical school and want to prepare for the aptitude test, or the interview (but let me know if this is you, because I am thinking of writing a course for this).
  • It is 'clinically focused' and wont give a deep explanation of the physiological science behind conditions. Don't use it to study for physiology exams, biological degrees, etc.

UK GP exams training

Hi, I'm Bug price. I'm a GP trainee in the UK NHS, based in Kent. I've recently taken the AKT, during October of my ST2 year, with a toddler, and a brand new baby at home - so I know what it's like to have to study with limited time on your hands!
