Color Correction & Color Grading is the process of fixing and stylizing an image in order to create emotional communication with the viewer. Every shot requires some corrective actions and from this process stems the term “color correction”. Color grading is the secondary process that includes the stylizing part with color filters and some film effects.

Color correction & grading is a job of a colorist who is responsible of the final look of the movie or  video. This course prepares you for the first steps as a colorist and teaches you the basic tools of color correction and color grading with a powerful software: the Adobe After Effects. Practically most of these tools are same for the big part of editing softwares, but After Effects, as a professional software, is the best to start and understand these tools. After  finishing this course you will be able to apply for jobs as a color grader.

Content and Overview

Suitable for beginning colorists, through this course of – lectures and – hours of content, you’ll learn all of the Adobe After Effects fundamentals based on color correction & grading tools  and establish a strong understanding of the concept behind color correction & color grading. I’ll teach you 10 different techniques of color correction & grading that form 10 different film looks. These 10 lectures will be the example of every color correction process that you can use in the future as a colorist. Also I give you some exercises that put your new learned skills into practical use immediately.

Starting with the installation of the Adobe After Effects, you will be ready to start following this course. We will create different type of looks through various color correction and grading techniques using always effects of the AAE without extra plug-ins. We will learn how to set the initial black and white with an effect called Tint. We’ll learn how to fix the overexposed areas and the white balance problems. We’ll learn how to adjusting shadows, mid tones and highlights using the  Shadow/Highlight effect. We’ll learn how to add contrast and color with curves. We’ll learn different ways to stylize our footage by adding film effects such as film grain, fractal noise, scratches for old film looks ecc. Also we will create cinematic atmosphere by creating  letterbox and shape masks like vignette. In the end of this course there are 2 lectures that teach you how to save a preset and how to export with the best quality(which includes an extra software that you get it you when you download the After Effects).

Students completing the course will have the knowledge to create cinematic looks and be able to color correct and grade any footage.
