Course Description

Accelerate Your Career  is designed for you to truly understand who you are, what you bring to the table, what the value of that is and how to use it in your career.

As the course progresses we will get deeper into how you brand and position yourself in the job and career market, what employers are looking for and how to get their attention and ways to ensure you find a stable, secure career future that will look after you and your family for years to come.

Discover the importance of your own personal brand.

Your own personal brand is not just a hairstyle or an accent. It is everything you do in your personal and professional life. Without brand identity you are bland, unfocused and certainly from a professional standpoint, you pretty much look the same as everyone else. So how do we change that?

The course covers:

  • Who are you and what makes you passionate?
  • Finding the core value within yourself will get you on track to building your own USP.
  • What drives you? What makes you excited about life and your work?
  • Where do you spend your time and focused on what?
  • If you could have ANY job in the whole world, what would it be and why?

Answering these short questions will truly make you stand out. When you find a purpose (remember mine?) you have a goal, a target and you then start to develop your language and in turn, your identity.

We take the background of what personal branding and USP’s are, and started applying it to you. We figure out what makes you passionate, we look at what others think and compare the two together, and finally, we look around to see what a total stranger might think.

We have a concept of who the new you might be and look like. Then we talk about how you now apply that to your career!

What are the requirements?

  • An open mind!
  • Ability to be honest and open with yourself
  • Pen & Paper!

What am I going to get from this course?

  • Get promoted or move into a better position in a new company
  • Understand their own true and value and what they bring to the table
  • Ask for a raise or move into a better paying job

What is the target audience?

  • Anybody that does not understand their own true value and what they can offer
  • Any person that wants promotion but is being overlooked or not considered
  • Anyone that is financially stuck in their careers or job and want to make more money

What you get with this course?

Curriculum

Section 1: Introduction
05:18

Paul talks about the importance of proper career planning and how it impacts the next 30 years of your life.

00:47

Now we want our students to tell us a bit about themselves.

Section 2: Building Your Personal Brand
02:20

Building your personal brand and how that affects the success level in your career. In this section,we are looking at your USP or Unique Selling Proposition and I will be showing you not just how to find that, but what effect it can have on a hiring manager.

05:15

Your own personal brand is not just a hairstyle or an accent. It is everything you do in your personal and professional life. Without brand identity you are bland, unfocused and certainly from a professional standpoint, you pretty much look the same as everyone else. So how do we change that?

Who are you and what makes you passionate?

Finding the core value within yourself will get you on track to building your own USP. So, what drives you? What makes you passionate? Where do you spend your time and focused on what? If you could have ANY job in the whole world, what would it be and why?

Answering these short questions will truly make you stand out. When you find a purpose (remember mine?) you have a goal, a target and you then start to develop your language and in turn, your identity.

Function: What do you like to do?
What do you dislike doing?

Interests: Where do you want to apply your skills with?
What drives you forward?

Values: What ethics do you value?
What lifestyle and environment do you want to be in?

03:41

What do people know you for? Are you happy? Sad? Energetic? Level headed? Leader? Follower? Outgoing? Introverted? You may want to ask your friends and family this question and see what they come up with, you may be surprised!

Once you get this answer down and compare it to what drives you, is there a difference? Are the two aligned? If there are different, why? What is the difference and why do you think there is a gap? If they are totally aligned, why is that and do you truly believe this will drive you forward

03:06

So lets assume you have found an identity or a brand that you want to be associated with, now take a look around you and ask yourself – if a total stranger found me in person, then looked me up online, then asked everyone around me about who I am and what I am doing in life, would the stranger have a crystal clear understanding of who you are and what you are trying to achieve?

This is an interesting exercise and one that should be thought through carefully. The biggest mistake people make when building a brand is being inconsistent. When a stranger finds the inconsistency, he or she loses interest because you become irrelevant

00:46

The first activity is going to be “who am I now?”. After hearing the 3 questions above and running through them, do you have a clear picture on where you are heading? If so, I want you to write down in 3 sentences who you are, what makes you passionate and what is the purpose going to be in your career

02:22

To summarize, we have taken the background of what personal branding and USP’s are and started applying it to you. We have figured out what makes you passionate, we have looked at what others think and compared the two together and finally, we took a look around us to see what a total stranger might think. So how are we fairing so far? Do we have a concept of who the new you might be and look like now? In the next section we will talk about how you now apply that to the market

Section 3: Your Job Market
00:44

Now that we have a basic concept down, we are going to work on applying that to our career path and market place. In the following short videos you will learn how to research where you skills, passion and purpose can be put to GREAT USE!

02:23

Now you have your passion and purpose intact, we can start to think about where we can use this. Firstly, within your current employment, can any of your new USP points be used to help the company move forward or work more efficiently? This is always a great place to start even if the company is not the right one, you still have something to offer! Think about this and write down 1-2 points that if applied, your current employer would benefit from.

Now that you have your 1-2 points, ask yourself this question – what is your new brand or USP worth to them? Can you demonstrate a new way of thinking or doing? These small changes are usually the ones that make the biggest differences!

01:29

We are now moving into where you can apply your new USP, brand and purpose and help a company that actually WANTS you for that particular reason. So, with your answers from the first section in front of you, start to make a list of the TYPES of companies (not names or company brands, just TYPES of) that may benefit from you and your USP or personal brand. For example, if you have a great smile and an outgoing personality, you could help dentist offices get more clients by running advertisements and helping them with sales

01:00

So you now have a brand / USP, it is consistent across social media and you are passionate about driving this forward. Well, now its time to do just that!

Before you go head first and barge into every dentist office in your local area, think about a few points and answer the following questions:

A) How is your client / new employer / target going to truly benefit from having you around. Imagine them asking you that question (and they might) but try to think of how they are feeling and what the solution would be rather than boasting about your new USP, the key here is “what’s in it for them?”

00:52

So we know who we are and what we want to do with it, we also have an idea of where those employers or clients are now. So in another three sentences, write down who your ideal employer or client is going to be and where you can use your USP and personal branding to help them progress

00:50

To summarize, we now know where your new employer or client is hiding! We have a good idea of why they would want you in their business and what solution you can provide right? So how do you feel about truly targeting your potential new employer? Do you have any reservations? If so, what are they? Are the concerns a gap in knowledge or a fear of being rejected? How might we overcome them?

Section 4: Wrap up
00:54
