Section 1: Introduction

Hello and welcome to A Beginners Guide to Blogger. Let me share with you what passion drove me into becoming a blogger and briefly summarise what we will be covering in this course.

Welcome to A Beginners Guide to Blogger! With our very first lecture, we're going to learn the basic steps of creating your very own blog with Blogger! This is an easy step by step guide to start your blog for the beginners out there and an introduction into some of the areas behind your blog, such as the different tabs on your Dashboard.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD.

Section 2: How to create posts, pages with an introduction to Layouts

Posts are the main component that makes up any blog. Learn how to create posts and how to customise them with videos and images in this lesson. You will also learn how to install a "read more" link, on your post so that you don't have to display your entire post on the 'home page'.

We'll also have a look into some of your post settings.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD and to download the included 'cheat sheet'.

Keep building up the content of your blog with information that can be showed on Static Pages. Learn more about Pages in this lesson.

We're also going to look at how to customise the layout of your blog, so that you can create the look that you want.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD and download the 'Cheat Sheet'.

Can you customise your blog's template?
2 questions
Section 3: Let's customise your template!

Further customise the look and functionality of your blog by customising your menu, otherwise known as the 'pages' gadget. Pages are static however, posts are dynamic as they are constantly being updated. In the video, you will learn how to add one of your labels to your "menu". Unlike a static page, like an 'About page', by adding a label to your menu, you will be creating what appears to be a 'page' dynamic as it will update every time you had a post with that particular label.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD.

In this lesson, learn how to further customise your blog. We'll cover how to upload a premade template and how to tweak your existing template with a few codes! A 'Cheat Sheet' has been provided, allowing you to tweak your blog a little more after the video.

We will learn how to tweak you blog with codes that are added in the 'Add CSS' section of your template editor. This means we will not be entering the back end of our blog's code. Phew ;)

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD.

The cheat sheet is super helpful in editing your blog with a few codes that can easily be added to customise the look of your blog. In this video however, we are going to edit the actual code which makes up your whole blog.

Learn how to remove the "show all posts" message, which appear on your blog every time you click on a label or search for a particular term in your search bar. But don't worry, even though this change is being made by editing your blog's html code, I'm here to step you through the purpose with a video lecture dedicated just to this one purpose.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD.

Section 4: Domain Names

Configuring a domain name to your blog doesn't have to be tricky. I will show you how you can configure your blog's settings to include your own domain name. But just as importantly, I will also how you how to configure the settings of your domain name's account to your blog.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD.

We've all been there! Choosing a domain name can be tricky and surprisingly time consuming. Here are a few tips you can use to find the name you love.

Section 5: Connect and Market your blog

We've seen how easy it is to create a blog. So, how do you now get your blog noticed?

Blogging is all about creating a connection; whether that connection is between bloggers or between blog author to reader. We're going to have a look at how you can get your blog noticed by readers and other bloggers with tips that range from specific online networks to using social media.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD.

Section 6: Create eye catching content with these online tools

Blogging is a visual experience but luckily, you don't have to be a graphic designer or photograph editor to create eye catching visual content, such as posts, headers or posters. In this lesson, I'll show you the online tools you can use to create visual content. Plus, learn where to go to create your own newsletter and where you will find free royalty free images and fonts.

Don't forget to watch your lessons in HD.

Learn how you can add advertisements to your blog using the 'image gadget' in Blogger.
You will also learn how to use the 'image gadget' to link your blog to your social media sites; how to create a personalised image for this and how to add in a premade social media widget.

Instructor Biography

Elizabeth Kochergin, Blogger, Videographer and Photographer

I started my very first blog almost five years ago while I was still studying at university. I felt the call to try and make a positive change in the community after creating a series of videos about climate change in my Media Arts Production course. It was with that that my blog, 'Project Seeds' was born!

Throughout the years of blogging, I have been able to team up with eco friendly brands and have their advertisements feature on my blog. I have also been able to team up with them to create sponsored posts and have been personally invited to enter video competitions about sustainability and change making from various organisations around the world. Most importantly, I have become a better writer being a blogger and have been able to share my passions with the world.

Since then, I have created several other blogs and am currently working on another blog, all about travelling, because like many people, I LOVE travelling.

I wasn't technical at all when I first created a blog and knew nothing about coding. It literally took me weeks to customise my first blog the way I wanted it to appear with lots of time spent trawling through online forums on how to change the simplest thing!

But that's the great thing about blogging, you can share who you are and what you love without being a high tech coder. You can also create great graphics and edit beautiful photos without being a designer.

I am a big believer of dreams and am always encouraging people around me to blog! It let's you be creative, share your story and have fun!
