    Welcome to Chapter 1 of the 3D printing workshop. We are going to take a second to investigate the tech behind 3D printing before we jump into printing. By the end of this chapter you should:

    1. Have learned about some of the popular 3D printing technologies.
    2. Have a good understanding of where 3D printing is being used and why.
    3. Know what type of manufacturing process 3D printing is, and more importantly why.
    4. Understand what materials are used by 3D printers
    5. Understand what hardware is on a 3D printer and how it has evolved since the first consumer printers
    6. Understand the workflow and software required to use a 3D printer.
