Authors are authors because that's what they do best- Write! Many often request quiet and solitude in order to get the creative juices flowing and to avoid the author's grim reaper 'Writer's Block'. As a result, authors tend to shy away from anything other than writing which more often than not leads them to face some unwelcome challenges after their book is published.
This course is here to help those authors who fit the description above as well as those who are desirous of pursuing writing as a career or established authors who wish to get involved in both the writing and marketing aspects of their book. While this course does not offer detailed strategies to marketing, it does offer a basic, get off the ground start to having an appreciation for those things and activities that should be obvious but are not quite so obvious to an author and hence the reason behind the self sabotage of their book's success.
'10 Things Authors Do To Sabotage Their Book's Success' covers 10 ways authors sabotage themselves and its resulting impact on the areas of manuscript creation, publishing and marketing. This course will highlight those areas you need to pay attention to before publishing your book so you can avoid or prevent expensive mistakes.
Solutions and live examples will be provided as well as supplementary resources and links to help guide you.

Congratulations! You have completed section 2 of this course. You are on your way to getting into the meat of the course. Ready? Let's go!
Authors go through a roller coaster ride from writing to marketing their books. When the book is published and ready to launch, they may see a rise in sales and then a sudden drop, to start the process of building sales all over again. Unknowingly, authors sabotage the success of their books by their own actions. Here are the top 10 sabotagers. The audio lecture prepares you for what to expect in this section. Enjoy!
Getting your book published is one thing. Letting others know that you and your book exist is another matter. This lecture will show you how important it is to get found or increase your visibility and one of the best ways to do so.
Some authors have limited knowledge outside of writing and that's ok. They do what they do best. However, they are not even aware that they are leaving money on the table if they don't implement this specific application.
How would you know how you are performing if not for constructive criticism and feedback? As hard as it may be to accept sometimes, it is your reaction to this feedback that will determine your success.
First impressions count and are lasting. The same concept applies to your book cover. It would be interesting to hear what appeals to you when selecting a book off the shelf or even online. Leave your comments on the discussion forum and let's engage in a discussion on this topic.
This is one area that is ignored by Authors mainly because they don't know how to or they don't want to as it takes up too much time. Once you have made a decision to become an author and would like to realize success, you have to put in the time and effort to see the results and most of all to get noticed. Maybe, just maybe you may be picked up for a publishing contract by a publishing house!
Wouldn't that be awesome?
Mainly targeted to non fiction authors, this sabotager is one that needs special attention by the experts in its field. A costly but worthwhile venture if you consider your work valuable and you want to attract the right audience who would be more than willing to pay for your book.
In this lecture you will learn how some authors hold back on investing in one of the most critical areas that creates one of the more serious sabotagers that not only affect their sales but also their credibility.
In any area of writing or even business, you need to know your target audience or else you will find yourself trying to reach out to the entire ocean and not catching any fish.
In the same way you need to identify your target audience and know who will be interested in your book and what you have to share; just as important is speaking their language. While this does not rule out the type of language such as Spanish or French, what is being referred to here is the special lingo, ways of communication, likes and dislikes of that particular audience that will attract them to your book. In other words, do you have something of value that you can offer your audience?
With everything you do, you need a plan. At least if you want to have some amount of control over the results or at best to be able to track your results over a period of time. Planning is essential when it comes to the marketing of your book but more so prior to the marketing of your book is the idea that you conceived to write your book. The marketing actually begins there NOT when the book is published!!! TAKE NOTE!
So in this lecture, I hope I get you to see that implementing some strategies such as sharing your idea for your book by way of a sample of your writing either via your website, blog and social media will significantly help you to avoid costly mistakes down the road as you can get an idea of your potential readers and buyers who will not hesitate to give you feedback and reviews. This too will be helpful as you can craft your book to suit that target audience. You will also know up front if the idea is a good one or not to move forward with so you don't waste your time.
Don't be afraid to share your ideas, thoughts and samples of your work. Yes, others may grab it and attempt to do something but remember you put it out there first and only you know what you want to say and how. Go with positive thoughts that people are good and they have to prove to you otherwise :)
So don't let FEAR hold you back!
The plan in the resources area will help you to be guided like a roadmap. Use it and customize to suit your needs. Feel free to comment on its usefulness and I would be happy to respond.
This audio lecture focuses on how the 10 sabotagers can impact the 3 main areas of the publishing process namely manuscript creation, publishing and marketing. It also works in reverse; that is, you will clearly see which sabotager needs special attention in order to avoid the challenges you may be facing with one or a combination of the 3 areas in the publishing process.
It is recommended to download the powerpoint slides while listening to the lecture.
