Description

When used properly for instruction, computers can help remove barriers to comprehension and engagement.  Their impact on pre-verbal and 'non-responsive" students is especially dramatic when used in conjunction with video.

This 22-minute course will introduce you to a range of online activities that appeal to different students.  You will learn how to engage students in order to learn what stimulates and engages their attention.  You will discover that you are learning as much as they are. Remember, operating a computer is an important skill allowing even the most isolated of students to communicate, to demonstrate choices and assume a proactive role in their own education.

Caution: This Portaportal lists online resources I used in the classroom with individuals and small groups from 2008-2010. I can get you started but its up to you to find newer ones.

I have successfully used these websites to engage students in educational activities designed to promote:

  • Language development
  • Communication
  • Decision-making
  • Interaction with you
  • Self-awareness
  • Metacognition
  • Technology skills that lead to greater independence and self-directed education
