This is the presentation I show on the first day of class to help students understand what class will be like, what I expect from myself and my students, and what the main tools of the class will be.
Description
Middle School Technology class is designed to assist students in becoming better Digital Citizens. Topics covered will include online safety, digital etiquette, cyber bullying, sexting, protecting your online reputation, social networking do’s and don’ts, plagiarism, copyright and fair use, how to conduct effective searches, how to evaluate sites for accuracy and bias, as well as computer and Internet History. Students will use communication and collaboration tools in class such as blogs, wikis, video conferencing, IM’s, Moodle, and back channel discussion boards. They will create products using common productivity tools and software and web 2.0 applications. Finally, every class will devote 15-20 minutes to develop and assess proper keyboarding habits. It is this instructor’s belief that good habits lead to speed and accuracy.
