* Don't touch your baby's nails for first two weeks, only file with emery board.
* Always file down.
* Comb and brush once a day, to stimulated scalp and prevent cradle cap.

* Prepare yourself for at least one load of laundry per day per newborn.

RISK FACTORS - SIDS
1) Boys more prone to SIDS.
2) Cold weather: because of comforters and blankets.
WARMING: no comforter and no pillows in the crib for the first two years.
3) Second hand smoke.
4) Not breastfeeding.
VERY IMPORTANT: babies need to sleep on their backs!
WARNING: never leave your baby unattended on it's tummy!

TUB BATH
* You can use baby wash from head to toe as shampoo and soap.
* Only use an inch of water in bath tub with an infant.

DRESSING
* It is easier if you put your hand through the sleeve first and then pull the baby's arm through.
* A tub bath should NOT take longer than 15 minutes.

* After umbilical cord falls off, use an alcohol prep to clean around the belly button - only ones a day.

* Dress your baby as warmly as you dress yourself.
* When holding the baby back, support the back of the head.
* Never leave a baby un attended.
* Umbilical cord falls off 7-10 days after delivery.
* Babys are calmer when swaddled.
* Bathe the baby 2-3 times a week.
* For each eye, use a new cotton ball.
* Avoid using cotton swaps in newborn ears for the first month.
